That's why the Reagan Administration brought us the National Firearms Act. For $200 you can make frantic trips to the mailbox waiting on approval to own a suppressor, or a short barrel rifle, or an "AOW" or...

I'd be curious to know which things you and Obama agreed on. He and I only agreed on two: That invading Iraq was a mistake and that Government spending should decrease. And I'd bet you a beer that we may have agreed at face value but our reasons for feeling that way on those two issues are drastically different. McCain and I agreed on 4 points and disagreed on 6. You can see my results in the attached PDF file.

Wow that's pretty awesome. Maybe my wife will receive hers soon! (June 10th)

Hey Dixie... it'd be awesome if you would use the quote feature to actually link back to the posts where these things were being said. It's kind of hard to follow who you're quoting. Thanks, and back to our regularly scheduled tree stumping.

Yes but as others have stated, it's not just about what the POTUS is capable of doing as one man... but it's who he is capable of appointing to various high positions (i.e. the Supreme Court) and what havoc they are capable of causing. In my opinion, a McCain White House is far more likely to appoint Justices with more Conservative leanings. By contrast, an Obama White House is just as likely to go the opposite direction and appoint Justices with extremely Liberal leanings. Obama scares the hell out of me. Not just because of the damage he's going to do to this country in and of himself, but because of the damage he will cause through his Appointments.

Welcome, Kevin. Don't let the regulars scare you... most of them have had their shots.

It depends on what you're mounting it on, what you're using it for and what you want it to do. I like them but there are certain applications where other reflex sighting systems make more sense.

Agreed and sorry for using the words 'friend' and 'acquaintance' interchangeably like that.

http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=A2+handle&_sacat=See-All-Categories Lots of them for cheap on eBay. There may even be someone here who has a box full of their discarded A2 carry handles who would pretty much give you one. I'm down to just one right now otherwise I would.

If anything, we must think even more when we are carrying a firearm. Your friend needs to realize that when he straps on his firearm, any fight that he gets into immediately becomes a "gun fight" by default. He may never draw, but the gun is still there and he may have to fight to retain the weapon during a scuffle. People like your friend worry me. We should practice avoidance as much as we practice drawing and firing.

Random musings on the subject... Cruel Hand Luke posted superb advice. Read it. Re-read it. Print out out, take it to the toilet and read it some more while you're on the can. He posted advice for free that a lot of trainers charge to teach you. The defensive drill he outlined is one that I try to practice pretty much every time I'm at a range that allows movement and firing from a draw. It's a very basic but very critical drill that we should all burn into our brains and into muscle memory, time and time again. Buy some dummy rounds. Take a buddy to the range. Take turns loading each other's mags while inserting a few dummy rounds into each as surprises. Work on clearing malfunctions! Get to the point where it doesn't mind**** you when the gun goes *click* instead of going *BANG!*. You want failure drills to become as autonomous as any other part of your shooting. Regarding IDPA / USPSA or other forms of gaming: Don't fool yourself into thinking this is good training. It's not. It is better than what 90% of handgun owners do (i.e. putting rounds into a stationary target from a stationary shooting position from a fixed sitance) but it doesn't cultivate good defensive skills. The scenarios most gaming events pitch are utterly silly. Furthermore some of the safety centric rules of gun handling and some of the "gaming tactics" for maximizing use of rounds in each magazine do not apply to winning a fight for your life. At a real defensive handgun class, you will do things that would make a USPSA Range Officer scream like a girl. That said, I enjoy gaming. It's fun and it gives you a chance to do some interesting stuff with your firearm. But it also teaches bad habits. Since the vast majority of what you will do in a defensive situation is going to be reflexive and autonomous, I refuse to devote any more of my time shooting to burning bad habits into my subconscious memory. If IDPA or USPSA is the best you can do for training, I would recommend not going to compete or worrying about score, but rather playing the game "your way" with necessary concessions made to keep the safety officers happy, and maximize the opportunity as a way to practice shooting on the move. Forget times, forget splits, forget score. In a fight, the only score that matters is who is left standing. Hope this helps some.

I agree with EO. The full-size 9mm isn't much bigger than my Glock 19 and carries more rounds. The full-size 40SW is the same size but you lose a few rounds with the larger caliber. Their new 45 Compact looks neat, but I've gotten past the idea that lower round count just to have .45ACP in the pipe is a good trade. I want more rounds, not less.

Let's see pictures of your... reloading bench!
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Impressive setups from both posters so far. I've been lusting after the 1050B for a while now. Probably more reloading press than I need but I'd rather only spend the money once with the prospect of growing into it over time than buy less now and have to upgrade later. -
Nice pistola.

McCain isn't Obama. That's the best reason I can give you right now.

Good luck with that one.

Sent today to S&W Club 1852 members... The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) and Smith & Wesson have partnered to create a commemorative revolver designed to recognize the historical significance of the District of Columbia vs. Heller decision and to acknowledge the six original plaintiffs that united to challenge the gun ban in Washington, D.C. As part of the project, an engraved Smith & Wesson Model 442 revolver will be presented to each of the six plaintiffs - Shelly Parker, Tom Palmer, Gillian St. Lawrence, Tracey Ambeau, George Lyon and Dick Heller - for their key roles in working to protect the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. The commemorative revolver is available for consumer purchase and Smith & Wesson will direct a portion of the proceeds to the Second Amendment Foundation to acknowledge the organization's pivotal role in the Heller case and its ongoing efforts to preserve the Second Amendment rights of U.S. citizens. The Smith & Wesson Model 442 will be laser engraved with an insignia to commemorate the ruling by the Supreme Court. On the right side plate of the revolver, the scale of justice is depicted with the wording "D.C. vs. Heller" across the scale. The balance is in favor of the "Heller" name with the court date of "June 26, 2008" positioned across the top. Underneath the scale, the side plate reads "Second Amendment" and "The right to keep and bear arms" in white lettering. Product Number: 150505 MSRP: $575.00

Here you go. I haven't sat down and verified every statement made in the video but the claims seem to mirror those that I have seen substantiated in other materials. [ame] [/ame]

Tungsten's CQBR build... MK18 Clone
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
You're pissin' on my excitement here. -
All of which points to... you and her need to drag your butts to Nashville in September or October and attend a TGO shoot. Maybe once you get your SBR project done as well so that it'll be a worthwhile trip.

No, I meant that my wife's a good shot. The only shot I've seen your wife make was with my S&W snub nose and that's only because she was aiming at the ground. She pretty much had to make that one.

Clinton pandered to the young voter and was in like Flynn. Remember his silly saxophone solo on the Arsenio Hall Show? The guy really knew who his target demographic was and worked them hard. Obama's machine scored a huge hits by getting Oprah to endorse him, by selling him as something of a "sex object" with those goofy photos of him running shirtless on a beach somewhere (hey... didn't Vladamir Putin do something like that too?), and most recently by selling him to European and Mid-Eastern societies. The latter of which should have absolutely no bearing on his electability, but you and I know that the sinister undertone to this is "Hey America, look at how much Europe and the Arab nations love me. And if you elect me, they will return to loving America too!" It's enough to make me want to vomit.

I'm not that brave. She's too good of a shot!

PS: I think we all may as well go ahead and start getting used to hearing the phrase "President Obama" anyway. I'm no conspiracy theorist but I think the guy has more than enough charisma to mindbend the overwhelmingly apathetic, McDonald's mindset voter into putting him into office entirely under the mantra of "CHANGE". Apparently he doesn't have to tell us what change or how. All the lazy voters care is that he's preaching change and change sounds good to them right now. For ****'s sake... change sounds awfully good to me right now too, but I'd at least like GOOD change that is GOOD for this country as a whole and not some Marxist dismantling of our core beliefs and values.

Agreed 1,000% on both fronts.
