Are you sure a CIII dealer is required for in-state?
TGO David replied to a topic in Feedback and Support
As I said earlier, that's how I'd do it. If you choose to do it differently that's between you and the other party and is totally your prerogative. For what it's worth, I think society's values have plummeted significantly since "before there was an Internet". I don't trust people near as much now as I did back then. -
Guys, if I slip out of work today unattended... I'll be at Hooters coloring with the waitresses also.

Thanks, JWP. I have edited the sticky in this forum to reflect more accurate information. Everyone... make sure you're doing private transactions the right way! As I have stated countless times, the burden of doing so rests squarely on you as the buyer or seller. If you do it wrong, you are looking at harsh penalties up to and including prison time. -
Wow... that's a good read. Thanks for posting it!

PS: I wouldn't be doing my job as a moderator if I didn't remind everyone that Rule #3 in our Code of Conduct states that we need to avoid discussing illegal activities including the act of circumventing laws. Gun owners are much maligned by the media as is. The last thing we need to do is discuss how we would thumb our nose at the law and carry despite having that right removed from us by the State. As silly as it may sound that rights can be revoked.

I hope I'm never forced to make a decision like that. I guess ultimately I'd petition relentlessly for restoration of my rights and/or move to a more gun-owner friendly state with laws similar to those of Kentucky.

If that's correct and the transaction would carry a $400 tax tag as a result, the obvious choice is to handle it privately as long as it's being done in-state and in full accordance with the law. Honestly... as long as people realize that TGO isn't in the business of selling guns, accessories or dispensing legal advice and that the burden of consequences rests squarely on the people involved in any and all transactions, I really don't care how they choose to transfer a firearm privately. I know how I'd do it, but that's just me. I like to be safe. Some people -- and I do not mean to imply that it's any of us in this thread, just stating a fact in general -- apparently find it's more important to them to thumb their nose at "The Man" and get by with as little paperwork and paper trail as possible. That's their prerogative and I might send them a postcard if it lands them in jail. Again, this is a whole different ball game with the BATFE than just me selling Jim-Bob a Glock that I don't want anymore. If Jim-Bob doesn't get the tax stamp, then Jim-Bob technically cannot even possess the item in question. And what risk does that put me in with the police and BATFE if I sell a Class III item to Jim-Bob without confirming that he has met the legal requirements to own it? BIG gray area. And gray areas involving the BATFE are areas I'd prefer to avoid from a personal standpoint. -

My understanding of the requirement may be incorrect. If I am, I will amend the stickied post in this forum. That being said, and if it's not a requirement... the only way that I personally would be willing to sell a Class III item to another person privately would be for that person to pay me 100% of the sale price up front, apply for their tax stamp, then show me their tax stamp assigned to the serial number of that item and then I would let them take possession of said item. I'm sure everyone will have their own opinion of what they would require as a seller, so this could end up being another discussion similar to the ones we've had here about the suggested form to use when privately transferring ownership of non-regulated firearms. Everyone just needs to be warned that the Fed doesn't mess around with Class III stuff. This isn't like selling grandpa's old 12 gauge shotgun to the nice guy you just met in the parking lot of Wal-Mart. There are serious penalties for doing it the wrong way. -
You must like all of your sports competitions ending in ties. That way no one team goes home feeling like they lost, right? Leftism at it's finest right there.

And you're pretty much required to buy nachos from the deli when you carry to Wal-Mart on your maiden voyage. It's in the rulebook somewhere.

That's why the Reagan Administration brought us the National Firearms Act. For $200 you can make frantic trips to the mailbox waiting on approval to own a suppressor, or a short barrel rifle, or an "AOW" or...

I'd be curious to know which things you and Obama agreed on. He and I only agreed on two: That invading Iraq was a mistake and that Government spending should decrease. And I'd bet you a beer that we may have agreed at face value but our reasons for feeling that way on those two issues are drastically different. McCain and I agreed on 4 points and disagreed on 6. You can see my results in the attached PDF file.

Wow that's pretty awesome. Maybe my wife will receive hers soon! (June 10th)

Hey Dixie... it'd be awesome if you would use the quote feature to actually link back to the posts where these things were being said. It's kind of hard to follow who you're quoting. Thanks, and back to our regularly scheduled tree stumping.

Yes but as others have stated, it's not just about what the POTUS is capable of doing as one man... but it's who he is capable of appointing to various high positions (i.e. the Supreme Court) and what havoc they are capable of causing. In my opinion, a McCain White House is far more likely to appoint Justices with more Conservative leanings. By contrast, an Obama White House is just as likely to go the opposite direction and appoint Justices with extremely Liberal leanings. Obama scares the hell out of me. Not just because of the damage he's going to do to this country in and of himself, but because of the damage he will cause through his Appointments.

Welcome, Kevin. Don't let the regulars scare you... most of them have had their shots.

It depends on what you're mounting it on, what you're using it for and what you want it to do. I like them but there are certain applications where other reflex sighting systems make more sense.

Agreed and sorry for using the words 'friend' and 'acquaintance' interchangeably like that.

http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=A2+handle&_sacat=See-All-Categories Lots of them for cheap on eBay. There may even be someone here who has a box full of their discarded A2 carry handles who would pretty much give you one. I'm down to just one right now otherwise I would.

If anything, we must think even more when we are carrying a firearm. Your friend needs to realize that when he straps on his firearm, any fight that he gets into immediately becomes a "gun fight" by default. He may never draw, but the gun is still there and he may have to fight to retain the weapon during a scuffle. People like your friend worry me. We should practice avoidance as much as we practice drawing and firing.

Random musings on the subject... Cruel Hand Luke posted superb advice. Read it. Re-read it. Print out out, take it to the toilet and read it some more while you're on the can. He posted advice for free that a lot of trainers charge to teach you. The defensive drill he outlined is one that I try to practice pretty much every time I'm at a range that allows movement and firing from a draw. It's a very basic but very critical drill that we should all burn into our brains and into muscle memory, time and time again. Buy some dummy rounds. Take a buddy to the range. Take turns loading each other's mags while inserting a few dummy rounds into each as surprises. Work on clearing malfunctions! Get to the point where it doesn't mind**** you when the gun goes *click* instead of going *BANG!*. You want failure drills to become as autonomous as any other part of your shooting. Regarding IDPA / USPSA or other forms of gaming: Don't fool yourself into thinking this is good training. It's not. It is better than what 90% of handgun owners do (i.e. putting rounds into a stationary target from a stationary shooting position from a fixed sitance) but it doesn't cultivate good defensive skills. The scenarios most gaming events pitch are utterly silly. Furthermore some of the safety centric rules of gun handling and some of the "gaming tactics" for maximizing use of rounds in each magazine do not apply to winning a fight for your life. At a real defensive handgun class, you will do things that would make a USPSA Range Officer scream like a girl. That said, I enjoy gaming. It's fun and it gives you a chance to do some interesting stuff with your firearm. But it also teaches bad habits. Since the vast majority of what you will do in a defensive situation is going to be reflexive and autonomous, I refuse to devote any more of my time shooting to burning bad habits into my subconscious memory. If IDPA or USPSA is the best you can do for training, I would recommend not going to compete or worrying about score, but rather playing the game "your way" with necessary concessions made to keep the safety officers happy, and maximize the opportunity as a way to practice shooting on the move. Forget times, forget splits, forget score. In a fight, the only score that matters is who is left standing. Hope this helps some.

I agree with EO. The full-size 9mm isn't much bigger than my Glock 19 and carries more rounds. The full-size 40SW is the same size but you lose a few rounds with the larger caliber. Their new 45 Compact looks neat, but I've gotten past the idea that lower round count just to have .45ACP in the pipe is a good trade. I want more rounds, not less.

Let's see pictures of your... reloading bench!
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Impressive setups from both posters so far. I've been lusting after the 1050B for a while now. Probably more reloading press than I need but I'd rather only spend the money once with the prospect of growing into it over time than buy less now and have to upgrade later. -
Nice pistola.
