Tungsten's CQBR build... MK18 Clone
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
I was bored this afternoon and decided to call the BATFE office in West Virginia and inquire. No harm in that. In fact, the representative that I spoke with was extremely friendly, polite and courteous. As I told her, it was my first Form 1 submission and she jokingly said "Oh those are the ones that take the longest. The first ones. The rest of them don't seem to take near as long." To date, I am in their system, my certified check was cashed back on July the 23rd and she told me to call back in about a month and she'd be happy to reference the serial number again and let me know where I was in the process. I'll probably give it another 6 weeks and just see what happens. I might actually be able to build my SBR before November if my luck holds out. -
ATF Changes Definition of “Manufacturer
TGO David replied to Marswolf's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
It's been common knowledge for a while that you did not need to assemble an AR for a friend from a parts kit because that put you squarely into the category of being a manufacturer. This just seems to be the BATFE stating it plainly in black and white, which is something that the community has actually needed for some time now. When things are black and white, it leaves less to the discretion of the individual Agent and lets us all know what the rules are. I just don't see this as being a bad thing. PS: It's still, and always has been, OK for you to help a buddy work on his own firearm. But not for money and not doing it all for him. Either of those two things make you a manufacturer, by definition. -
Do you carry with a round in the chamber?
TGO David replied to bubbiesdad's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
It really is about personal preference. I hear so much anti-Glock diatribe (everywhere, not just here) and it's almost always backed up with a statement about some "safer" gun that the person ranting against Glocks owns himself. I carry my 1911 occasionally but not anywhere as frequently as I do my Glock. I don't feel any more confident that it won't go off inadvertently than I do that my Glock won't. The thumb and grip safeties do nothing to provide me any more peace of mind. Some people see the lack of a manual safety on the Glock as a downfall. I see it as a benefit on a fighting pistol. It's a streamlined system that has been fairly well idiot-proofed in the case of a high stress encounter with minimal reaction time afforded the Glock's operator. One less thing to forget. One less obstacle between pointing and shooting. One less part to stop working at the most inopportune moment. I'm not bashing XDs. I'm not bashing 1911s. I am bashing the prolific ignorance that says Glocks are bad because Glocks don't have grip safeties or thumb safeties. -

I guess I didn't read it that way. Why do you interpret it as such? -

You should probably sell it now before it goes off by itself and shoots you while you sleep. I own a 1911, M&P, J-Frame and Glock presently. I have owned a handgun from pretty much every popular make and model over the past 15 or so years. None of them have ever struck me as being any more or less safe than each other. The Glock included. Every time I see the argument about whether or not a Glock is any less save than another firearm, I remind myself that some people just aren't going to be swayed no matter how convincing the evidence is to the contrary. Some people just won't feel good about a gun unless it has a manual safety on it. And this is exactly why Springfield now produces an XD and Smith & Wesson now produces an M&P with manual safety levers. Not because they are any more "safe" but because it makes people feel safe. HanSolo, you need to trade your XD off for one of the new ones with the thumb safety. Gravity may increase exponentially without warning and cause your grip safety to be sucked into the frame thereby allowing an accidental discharge! -
About 2,400 feet per second. And you can practically hear the cash register ka-ching every time you pull the trigger. About $19 for 20 rds in most places.

I keep seeing him as Dagonet, one of the Knights in "King Arthur". What's this WWII zombie move you speak of? -
The roof rack on the topper gave it away. Yes sir! That's some good stuff right there. Hell, I need to fix the vacuum hubs on my 250 so that 4wd even freaking works this winter. You know, in case Nashville gets a dusting of snow.

Clearly a redneck! And I bet you wear 5.11 gear too! And hang out in gun shops a lot!

Saved by a technicality!

That's cool. I tend to think of guys in big 4x4 trucks as being rednecks. Knee jerk reaction I guess. Too bad I also drive a big 4x4 F250 diesel.

If you walked away with the impression that speed is more important than accuracy, I'm not sure what you saw or participated in. Both are equally important as is often expressed in the statement that "you can't miss fast enough to win". -

Why is it sad that you can't disagree? Are you ashamed that you think Islamic terrorists should get the business end of an UZI? -
Gallatin Police Department Sitting on $1500 1911
TGO David replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
A police officer can legally detain you for 48 hrs without filing charges against you. They can likewise run a complete trace on a firearm and be within their rights to do so. Why would they do this? Because you shot your mouth off at them instead of being polite and playing nice. The lesson here is to be respectful, courteous and professional and that the LEO will most likely return the favor. I ran my mouth to a cop once after he pulled me over for what I perceived as a complete BS reason. He gave me a nice $100 ticket for my trouble. When I bitched about it to my retired cop grandfather, he told me "Looks like you talked yourself into a ticket." I was 17. I learned my lesson early. -
I like them, just don't own any presently. My last was a P2000 .40SW and before that was a USPc 9mm and before that a USP 40.
