Updated info on Post Office carry
TGO David replied to Fallguy's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
As long as you do not climb inside your mailbox when you do. " Mailboxes are considered federal property, and federal law (Title 18, United States Code, Section 1705), makes it a crime to vandalize them (or to injure, deface or destroy any mail deposited in them)." http://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/radDocs/tipvandl.htm -
Libertarian Party ... How I Wish....
TGO David replied to Oh Shoot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I've got news for you... there has been collateral damage since the inception of warfare. I firmly believe that the United States does not actively engage civilian targets and makes every conceivable effort to avoid collateral damage, not just because of the bad press it gets but because it is morally and ethically reprehensible to accept less than that. That being said, **** happens. As the saying goes, "Freedom isn't free. Peace isn't pretty." I'm not being flippant, I'm just stating that the harsh fact of life is that mistakes sometimes get made despite our best efforts. And that isn't even considering the entirely plausible scenario that civilians were put into harms way by the forces we're fighting against purely for the negative media impact it would have. It's been done plenty of times before. I'm also one of those people who thinks that embedded reporters ought to get life preservers instead of flak jackets. The public has no need to know what happens on the battlefield and often lacks the stomach to accept that war IS hell, then makes the mistake of trying to come onto an Internet message board (like this one) and Monday Morning Quarterback the situation. -

Let's pick a date for the September Middle TN meet and shoot
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in Events and Gatherings
I will inquire of the club to see if anyone has addressed that issue yet. Soaking the berm with kerosene would do the trick. -
We're definitely going to try to do this in 2009. I'm about a week away from our big event on Tennesspeed, but once that's past I can start looking into our options for this.

Do you carry with a round in the chamber?
TGO David replied to bubbiesdad's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Back on topic... I carry all of my weapons with a round in the chamber. I store all of my weapons loaded. When I took the CIS Defensive Pistol class a few months ago, there was an incident where I had loaded up my mags but forgot to chamber a round before a drill. Total and complete brain fart. When I drew and *clicked* the sound of silence was more deafening than any muzzle report. As Todd accurately put it, I was carrying the "Dead Man's Gun". It was just a drill and just a training class, but it reminded me in no uncertain terms why I prefer to carry with one in the chamber. Because when the situation grows hair and you're relying on muscle memory to save your ass, you don't want to hear a CLICK instead of a BOOM. Just my opinion. Others will undoubtedly vary. -
Heh... saw this on another forum. Did any of you notice that he has one hand posed grabbing his junk? Thug Life 4ever, y0!!!

My long term plans regardless of who is elected are no different than they are now.

What are your thoughts on this AR accessory?
TGO David replied to ukerduker's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
http://www.yhm.net/store/grips.html YHM makes or sells them. Can't really tell from their site's description, but they are the first people I remember seeing selling those. If it is something YHM actually makes, quality should be good. Their stuff is usually top notch. That being said, I'd prefer a Harris bipod mounted with a LaRue adapter if it were me. That way you have a rock solid system that can be removed to shed weight from the front of your rifle when you aren't using it. I tend to prefer the stubby vertical grips, though, so I'm admittedly not a big fan of the full-size fore grips. -
Looks really grippy! Have you had much trigger time with it since having the work done?

Let's pick a date for the September Middle TN meet and shoot
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in Events and Gatherings
Not that it matters, but the 6th and the 27th are completely out for me and my wife. We already have prior engagements those two Saturdays. But if they work better for everyone else, we hope that everyone will go with the option that makes the most sense for the majority. Just wanted to throw that out there in case one of those two weekends wins out and then we don't show up. It won't be for lack of desire to do so. -
Let's see if we can organize a meet and shoot for the middle TN folks in September. Please vote on the poll attached to this thread. I am going to stick with what seems to have been working and state that we will once again meet at Owl Hollow Gun Club for this. If you would like to meet beforehand and have lunch together, please vote on that option as well. Thanks.

Libertarian Party ... How I Wish....
TGO David replied to Oh Shoot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The only way to keep the government from dicking you over is to elect the right people. And anyone who talks about a modern day Revolution is dreaming and needs to stop watching Red Dawn so often. You might find pockets of resistance among an armed citizenry, but I seriously doubt you will find a cohesive armed rebellion against the United States government from within. It would be put down swiftly and decisively. The days of taking the government to task through force are over. The only way to take the government to task now is to do it at the election polls. -
If your G23 was pre-owned, a previous owner may have replaced the extractor with one that doesn't have the "nub".

And your small reward of self-satisfaction might come at the cost of us all losing our right to keep and bear arms if Obama/Biden win as a the result of a small margin. A margin that could have otherwise been offset if the Third Party idealists hadn't been so narrow minded in their pursuit of "sending a clear message to the GOP and DNC". What's the old addage about cutting your nose off to spite your face? I'll bookmark this thread so that I can come back in November and thank you for this if it comes to pass. -

Are you sure you aren't a relativist? Because, frankly, who cares what the reason when the outcome is still just as frustrating and futile. -

Regarding bump-fire... Guys please be aware that Owl Hollow Gun Club has asked everyone to limit their rapid / auto firing sequences and to maintain strict control over their firearm when they are doing so. Bump firing is typically not something you can do while maintaining proper aim, and is something you may end up having a Range Safety Officer crack down on. The OHGC members who are acting as "sponsors" of TGO guests could be held accountable if someone complains, and ultimately it could lead to OHGC forbidding organized TGO meet and greets out there. By now I think we've all seen plenty of examples of bump firing and the novelty should be wearing off. From now on I'm requesting that TGO members not do this. If we don't police ourselves, we can expect OHGC to end up policing us. Thanks.

Obama/Biden Team Limps Off the Starting Blocks
TGO David replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The problem is, the people who will vote for these morons don't care. They will elect them just because the aren't Republicans. The DNC could run a comatose chimpanzee and their target demographic would enthusiastically support them. -
Tower, had I known this I would have doubled my effort to be there. As was we spent the morning running errands and cleaning up around the house. Both of which needed to be done pretty badly, but I would have loved to have put a face with a name, shaken hands and put some rounds down range together. Soon perhaps!

Well... it sure sounds like you were born under a bad sign or something, because you seem to have some pretty crappy luck. Hope you get your gun back soon.
