Obamanations (pictures for the masses)

Please reference the post in question. I wasn't the originator of that post, I merely copied it here for everyone's information. The two Bushmaster rifles that I owned in the past were both very reliable, but I didn't know enough about the rifles then to check things like carrier key staking.

Nicely played.

2008 Pumpkin Contest Official Submissions and Voting

Those of you who won, be sure to PM Joe (Hero Gear) and let him know. Thanks. -
Ya know... I like it. Very traditional.

My wife doesn't get on here much as we're expecting a newborn in January, so between getting ready for that and working full-time during the day, she stays pretty busy. When she carries, she carries a Smith & Wesson Model No. 642, stainless J-frame revolver in .38 Special. Small enough to conceal, potent enough to use for self defense.

Welcome. Make yourself at home, but be sure to keep hands and feet inside the car at all times.

What the hell... did TGO become a personal's site over the weekend? Less talk about the female noncombatants and more talk about the firearms!

What Will All You Gun Store Owners Do......
TGO David replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
Yes and you'll also note that the General Off-Topic area is not subject to the same enforcement. That thread was dealing with the topical areas of the forum in particular. You'll also notice that the word Moderator does not appear beneath your name. Thanks. I'm curious about a lot of things. None of which are any of my business. If a person chooses to remain silent on an issue, it may be that they feel it's likewise none of anyone else's business.Often, when you start talking about a person's livelihood being snuffed out by some ridiculous new edict, that person often doesn't feel compelled to be chatty and conversational about it. It's pretty easy to see why, don't you think? I'll add that I haven't spoken to any of our vendors about this issue. I would guess that a few of them make more off of sales to law enforcement agencies than they do to civilians, so a blanket ban on firearms would likely just result in a shift of their focus. Smaller gun shops would end up forced out of business. Such a cheery subject. TWO MORE DAYS LEFT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!! -
Just a glimpse at the Almighty.

Good for you. Now follow through and get more people motivated to vote against Obama so that we don't have to worry about what if situations. And like him or not, the only effective means of voting against Obama is voting for McCain. We're not out until it's over. We haven't lost until the last poll closes. We can entertain ourselves with this type of thread for the next four years if we lose... but we haven't lost yet. -

A while back you seemed to be pretty undecided about who you were going to vote for. You were opposed to McCain for personal reasons, but wanted to essentially throw your vote away for voting for Mickey Mouse or Ron Paul or Pope John Paul or whoever. Basically you were set on voting for a candidate who might have scratched your Third Party Itch but wouldn't have been effective at keeping Obama out of office. Now you seem to be resigned to the idea that Obama is going to take the election this year and then he's coming after our guns. So, rather than ask what people are going to do after Obama is elected, why not do something a little more constructive and motivate people to vote against the son of a bitch so that we don't have to worry with these silly doomsday scenarios? Just saying. You've got two days to make a difference. Crawl out of the constitutional grave you've dug and knock off the dirt. We're not dead yet. -
That's kind of like asking what the weather is going to be like at noon on January 21st. Who knows??? Frankly I don't think that the rifles will be worth that much more than they are right now. The reason I think that is because people are more savvy to what the government can and might do this time around. The last AWB sort of caught folks off guard and gun enthusiasts / patriots / whatever you want to call them didn't realize how much they'd want those rifles afterward. This time, people are smarter. More or less. We're already seeing people hoard magazines, lowers, uppers, downers, siders, flippers, floppers, etc. It's going to take a while before a post-ban buying wave turns into a seller's market. Just my $0.02 worth. If you're buying to sell, you may be sitting on your stuff for a while.
-
About as much as it was worth on November 3rd. You aren't going to see any sort of increase in value until after another AWB is passed.

Jesus Christ, we are so screwed. First of all, the military IS a civilian force. Second of all, I'm suddenly in the market for off the radar AR15 lowers.

Source: http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=13532 Dated: 04/14/2008 Original post follows... As many know, I recently received my BM LE account. Well today I got my first shipment of their super light carbines. (http://www.bushmaster.com/catalog_xm15_BCWA3F16SL.asp) Since this is my first order, I thought I would take the time to document what I found. On initial inspection, the weapon looked very good and clean. No dings, scratches or blems. I did notice two things though, the castle nut was NOT staked and the FSB was not F marked. Upon field stripping the gun, I found that the gas key was barely staked (meaning that that the stakes were not actually touching the screws) and that the screws used in the gas key were on the small size (head diameter was undersized). This issue can result in a gas leakage problem. I then removed the extractor from the bolt and found a blue extractor insert. The gun came with M4 feed ramps, carbine buffer and a commercial receiver extension. Un-staked Castle Nut Poorly staked Gas Key Blue extractor insert, no Crane O-ring M4 Barrel extension and M4 upper receiver The small gas key screws really needed to be addressed so I went about removing them. I was interested in seeing how much inch pounds of torque it would take to remove these screws so I dialed my torque wrench to 40. The first screw came out at that setting and I believe that it would have come out with even lighter torque (maybe 36). The second screw came out at 48. What I find interesting is that each screw had their own DIFFERENT torque setting. This leads me to believe that BM is NOT using pre-set torque wrenches. Torque setting for removal of gas key screws Once the screws were removed I looked at them and the gas key for any signs of adhesive. None was used. Using light torque, no adhesive and light staking is a recipe for disaster IMHO. As I said earlier, the gas key screws looked on the small side to me. I was right. My calipers tell me that they were on the small side and no amount of staking was ever going to get the sides of the gas key to touch the screws. So I changed them out for heat treated, aircraft certified torx screws. Size of the BM factory gas key screws Size of Torx bolts we replaced the factory gas key screws with I followed the following steps for the installation of the gas key: 1. Degrease the gas key, bolts and bolt carrier. 2. Verify that the gas key base is square. 3. Apply a THIN coating of rocksett onto the torx screws. 4. Torque down the screws to 60in lbs. 5. Stake the gas key properly. Degreased bolt carrier, gas key and Torx screws Rocksett getting applied Torque setting for re-installation of gas key screws Gas key getting staked Finished product After the gas key was re-installed, I moved onto the bolt extractor. I changed out blue extractor insert for a black one and added a Crane O-Ring. I then upgraded the carbine buffer to an H buffer. Moving onto the castle nut, I double checked the torque setting on it and then staked it. Upgraded extractor Staked castle nut Factory Carbine buffer and installed H buffer The last issue that seems to plague many shooters is the low front sight base. This one was NOT rated for a flattop (F marked) and so I went ahead and installed a taller front sight post. Comparison of the two front sight posts (factory post on right) Taller front sight post installed Now we are all done and everything is good to go and back together. That wasn't so hard now was it?
