  1. So... you knit?
  2. I traded my 9L for a standard 40 a few weeks ago. I've been carrying it lately just for grins and giggles. It's as reliable as my previous 40 was, but I doubt I'll send this one off to Dan for the trigger job. The last trigger job he did for me was nice and smooth but it also made the reset even less perceptible than they are out of the box.
  3. I have a khaki Jumbo and use it for a variety of things in a variety of situations. I've taken it hiking, on trips, etc. Usually with at least a backup gun in the velcro holster and frequently with my Canon 30D DSLR camera and a wide-angle zoom lens in the main pocket when sightseeing.
  4. Options are nice. Not everyone likes to drive the same kind of car, so not everyone is going to like owning the same kind (or configuration) of handgun. S&W is showing tremendous attention to consumer desire and market demand by offering this as an option. This attention to the consumer is what keeps pushing S&W further into the market space previously owned almost entirely by the likes of Glock. I really don't care for a manual safety on a striker-fired handgun. They are quite necessary (IMO) on a 1911-style SAO handgun, so I do prefer them on those platforms. However there are people who think that the additional layer of safety is a nice thing to have and they will buy or refuse to buy a handgun due in part to the inclusion or omission of a manual safety. Whatever floats their boat, I guess.
  5. I really, really like this one.
  6. Key word: Memphis Take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
  7. I think this thread has run it's course. Everyone needs to just sit tight and wait for the next official announcement about the server move. Thanks.
  8. Pretty.
  9. Which in this case, the punishment could end up being his hosting company throwing a shoe at him for server utilization. Other than that, I'm not sure how this particular good deed would go unpunished. ... Folks, the problem with a lot of the virtualized hosting packages that go for under $100 per year is that none of them support the number of concurrent connections that TGO generates during the busier times of day. It's not so much about database size or physical storage footprint as it is about server lag and CPU sharing. We've enjoyed snappy performance here because I've tuned the server that I own to provide maximum throughput for two sites in particular (this and another) and to not throttle either one of them. Using some of these budget hosting services would be like handing over the keys for the Corvette we've been driving the past two years in exchange for keys to a Ford Festiva. I am also having to weigh the reputation of the hosting providers to make sure that what happened to Oleg Volk over on THR doesn't happen to us. Namely, that the hosting provider or person assigned to the account cannot somehow hijack the TGO installation and hold it for ransom or worse. All of these things keep pushing us toward a more expensive, albeit more professional, hosting arrangement.
  10. Please don't mix up things like that. I understand the desire to help but Tennesspeed's fate will be independent of TGO's fate. The two have nothing to do with one another except for the fact that they share space at the same street address right now. Tennesspeed's server requirements are much, much lower than those of TGO.
  11. They look really good. I'm all for it. And please thank your wife for putting her time and energy into this.
  12. Yes. I was on the verge of having it done to my 870 before I sold it. If you have a friend who is a machinist, they could remove the bead for you but most replacement sights have to be soldered on. Your other option is to buy a replacement barrel with front sight already installed. Several Remington 870 police models came with such and the barrels are readily available. Just be mindful of the overall length of the barrel and make sure you don't cross any FFL restrictions by running something too short.
  13. A couple of points... 1. You do realize that you're in the same boat as me? Namely, you married up. 2. Who's the guy that looks like Uncle Buck holding onto your wife in that picture?
  14. All further word on these matters will come from me. Please hold and wait until Sunday for more information. Thanks.
  15. Guys, I cannot begin to thank you all for the overwhelming show of support. It's pretty awesome. But I'm afraid that this thread is going to start running even more rampant with speculation and well-intended rumor if we let it keep going. An official update will come from me this Sunday before midnight. It may not be the final word, but I will give you all an update. I am staying quiet until then because too many things are in flux right now. There's no sense in me posting by-the-minute updates when things may change 10 minutes from now. It would just confuse everyone even more. So, sit tight for the next two days. We'll mobilize once we have a plan.
  16. Thanks. I'm amazed at how few people near us decorate their homes for Christmas. That was always one of the things I loved growing up.
  17. It's snowing like crazy here in Rutherford County, TN and it made for a very pleasant diversion from everything else going on in my part of the world right now. I'm a kid at heart and God knows it... so snow was an excellent way to get my mind off of the bad things going on and focus on some of the more simple pleasures. How about the rest of you? Got snow?
  18. Daddy says I make him drink.
  19. Thanks guys. We are working on some things behind the scenes to provide continuity of service or at least get TGO moved over to another server as soon after January 1 as we can. Several have sent messages asking how they can help. Obviously the first thing that would help is for me to find an IT job in the greater Nashville area. As I expressed to one person earlier, I am a consulting firm's dream hire. Over the past 15 years of being in this industry, I've literally been there and done that. In my current job, I have managed people, I've managed countless projects and I've done everything from pulling cable to establishing disaster recovery plans, from workstation support to mission critical server infrastructure design and implementation. If it sounds like I'm trying to sell myself... I am. Next in line is of course paying to host TGO somewhere else. Hosting fees range from $30 to $200. For $30 you get what you pay for and those packages wouldn't support our typical server load or our bandwidth requirements each month. What we require will demand a reputable hosting company with stable servers and generous bandwith allotments. That puts us in the $150-200 per month range. Right now my days consist of readying my workplace network to be handed off to an outside entity and investigating options that will ensure my family's security. I'm going to try to devote some time to TGO's future direction over the next few days so I will try to post more about this again on Sunday or Monday. I'm probably going to be absent from TGO or at least silent on this particular issue until then. Not because I'm dodging it, but just because I want to come back to this subject with information rather than speculation. Thanks for being patient.
  20. Yeah but we're just now getting to the point where we're all going to hold hands and sing campfire songs. A newbie wouldn't want to miss that would they? That'd be like watching Bambi, seeing his mom get shot and then not seeing her come back to life at the very end. Right? I mean... she came back... right?
  21. Yep! Comp-Tac uses a bit of rubber tube cut to about 1/2" in length as their bushings. It's pretty effective but they become deformed over time, which makes them difficult to line up properly if you take a holster apart for any reason.
  22. We'll have a beer together at some point. Things usually look better after a few beers.
  23. Yes, they are just Chicago screws.
  24. I agree with you 300% if that makes you feel any better.
  25. Usually I just spray my guns with PAM and it keeps them from sticking.
