  1. A map? You must have been sent to our Dora The Explorer site by accident.
  2. Welcome to TGO. The answer to this and a lot of other questions can be found by doing a simple search of the existing threads. As member Steelharp said, the exam is very easy. Just pay attention, take notes if you feel lead to do so, listen to the instructor and relax when it comes time to shoot. You'll do fine.
  3. Please take a few extra moments to give your threads more descriptive titles. I edited this one for you.

    HDMI cables

Blue Jeans Cables has great pricing also. But if you're in a pinch and you have a SAMS Club membership, you can get 1080p compatible HDMI cables there for fairly cheap. I think I gave $16 for my last 8ft cable from them.
  5. Clear your cookies. Clear your DNS cache. Reboot your computer. Those things typically resolve TTL issues on various records that may periodically point you back to the old server.
  6. A couple of late nights and a little work on it during some down-time on Christmas.
  7. By the way, I think that member NuTcAsE was the first person to see the new server according to my records. Congrats?
  8. I'm actually going to be working on some preliminaries for a business venture that I'm contemplating. Sounds fun, right? What about the rest of you?
  9. We did our major "Christmas buying" for ourselves a few weeks ago. New home theater setup and I picked up the Mossberg 950 SPX the same day so I technically consider it part of my Christmas booty. Today's surprises were (for my wife) a pink controller for our Xbox 360 and (for me) a really sweet heavy-duty tripod for my DSLR camera. I've been needing one that would support the weight of the camera and zoom lenses for a while now, and the gift was totally unexpected. She pwns.
  10. You're only pumping it if you leave it unchambered. Why would you do that? The sound of this thing's bolt being cycled is pretty close to that of a pump gun being racked, and honestly I like the element of surprise so I just leave it chambered and tucked safely away. The only hint that a home intruder might get that his life is about to be cut violently short would be the sudden blindness from the Streamlight.
  11. Back to the topic at hand, and quite seriously, the only two times I have ever had to draw or expose my weapon for fear of peril or death was at Christmas and both times at Wal-Mart. Watch yourselves out there.
  12. Worked on a dry-run of the TGO server move today. Took a little longer than I anticipated but I'm tempted now to make the conversion on Friday or Saturday so that I have the whole weekend to "perfect" it if something goes wrong. The dry run went off smoothly, though. Made Chex Mix with my wife this afternoon, ate way too much of it, then had a bottle of wine and snacks this evening. Now we're watching TV and relaxing.
  13. The semi-auto action will soak up quite a bit of recoil. How much depends on what rounds you're shooting. If you run 3" magnum loads through it, it's still going to get your attention.
  14. Last name of the dipstick in question is not the same last name as Voldemort. Sorry to disappoint anyone who was hoping for an early Christmas present.
  15. While waiting for some database conversions to process, I took some [crappy] pictures of the 930SPX. I have added a light to it since I bought it, but never got around to taking any pictures. These aren't the best but they show what's important. The light is a Streamlight TLR1. It's mounted on a Streamlight tube-mount. I added a Streamlight battery door with remote plug-in port and a Streamlight rifle remote pressure switch. The pressure switch is ideally positioned for my thumb to activate (I shoot lefty) or my wife's fingertips to activate (she shoots righty). I sleep with this under my pillow.

The Oppressive Regime strikes again, I guess. Good bye, good riddance. We don't need this sort of bull**** drama around here cluttering things up.
  17. Just suffer through it. The IP could be changed at a later point and having it keyed into your local hosts file would screw up some of our less technical users. The DNS records should update fairly quickly.
  18. I wouldn't say that. I've had two work related emails, a phone call and a remote assistance request to deal with this morning. I haven't had an actual day off in about 10 years... but I'm not sure that's worth bragging about.

This isn't the first time that you've chipped in your two cents on how I or the moderators have handled things. I suggest that you keep out of it and just be content to be a member here and let the moderators do their jobs when appropriate for them to do so, and otherwise let the moderators use the forum just as any other member does... freely and without undue harassment. If you feel the urge to moderate something, do it over on your own forum.
  20. I slept in til about 8am. Made a pot of coffee, came upstairs to check on some work. Going back downstairs soon to play COD4 on the 360. I'm starting to remember why I like having days off.
  21. Para isn't exactly renowned for quality.

I've been a member on a lot of forums. One thing that never surprises me is how members will bellyache anytime a moderator gets involved in a tussle. It's all fun and games until a guy with a title has an opinion, and then suddenly everyone's being repressed. Give me a friggin break. First of all, the moderators are entitled to have and share their opinions just the same as anyone else is. All moderators are first and foremost members of this forum and they are extended the same "rights" as any other member. Those of you who feel that a moderator shouldn't be allowed to express an opinion should find the nearest exit from TGO and take it, never to come back. Secondly, there are some fraternities in this world that a smart man doesn't go around making up farcical stories of being a member of; the military being one of them and certain divisions of the military being even more so. When you lie about being a member of those things, you can expect to get called out or worse. The people who really are members of those things generally have paid more than their fair share of dues over the courses of their careers to be called Marine, or sniper, or SF, or whatever and they don't take kindly to posers. For example, ask any Marine about the EGA. You don't get to wear the EGA until you become a Marine. You don't call yourself a Marine until the USMC calls you a Marine. You don't step off the bus at Paris Island as a new puke wearing a Marine Corps t-shrit unless you want to become seriously aquainted with pain and suffering for the next few weeks. You don't spit into the wind. You don't step on Superman's cape. Get the idea? So if a person comes onto an Internet forum occupied by a lot of current and former military personnel and starts spinning a story that seems pretty unbelievable, expect that they will get called out on it. And furthermore, expect them to get a lot of heat if their story turns out to be crap. Why? Because military take care of their own and the price of admission to their fraternity isn't free and it isn't cheap. As the cliche goes, all give some and some give all. Oh, and as a PS... most of the guys that I have met who really have been there and done the cool stuff don't talk about it much. Now I'm not saying that the original poster is full of ****. What I am saying is that even to me, a person who has never put on a uniform, the story sounds suspicious. And I'm inclined to let the military guys present in this thread handle it among themselves because if it turns out to be bogus, it will serve as a good warning to the next poser who comes along and decides to make up a bunch of crap. And if it turns out that it's legit, it's still all good. Because from what I've seen from the outside looking in, a good ration of **** is expected between members of the armed forces. They expect it and they understand it. Bottom line? Thread stays open, OP should put up the goods and let the other military members present vet his claims. The only thing that I am doing is moving this to the lounge forum and reminding the non moderators to let the modertors do the moderating.
  23. The reason for an adjustable stock is to tweak the "length of pull" to the shooter. Especially when body armor or other accessories are introduced into the mix.
  24. The butt-stock is available for either commercial OR milspec tubes. Stocks made for commercial tubes wobble on milspec tubes. Stocks made for milspec tubes won't fit onto a commercial tube. The proper part #s are as follows: Commercial: #CBS Milspec: #CBSM Reference http://www.magpul.com/pdfs/technotes/ctr/buffertubeid.pdf for the reasons why this is. Pictures are worth a thousand words.
  25. Same as yesterday. Busy, busy, busy.
