  1. That's ok. I get paid daily to keep 19 year old douchebags out of other people's networks.
  2. I back up my irreplaceable items like photos, tax returns, etc. onto optical media and store those in my safe and/or safety deposit box at the bank. But as an IT consultant / small business owner, yes I pretty much have my entire livelihood spread across several machines in my home office. Hence the routine backups.
  3. I use Acronis True Image Home Edition and an external drive to backup my stuff on a semi-daily basis and once a month do another backup to a second external drive that is kept in my safe. Cheap insurance.
  4. Sadly the author makes quite a few good points before handing it over to Wolin's leftist ideas in the second half. The truth of matters has always existed somewhere in the middle. This case is no different.
  5. It's globally frickin' cold outside here today. I sure could use some of that warming that Al Gore keeps raving about.
  6. You've already figured out who can read the detailed explanation of the feedback. It's there for the buyer and the seller, and also the TGO staff. I am not sure how it would add any value to make that available to the public at large, but am willing to entertain the idea if someone can make a persuasive argument for it. In my mind, the short eBay style feedback is all that is really essential for the shopper.
  7. Cheap, effective, easy to do... 1. Unload the weapon. 2. Store ammo completely away from weapon. 3. Ensure that the weapon is still clear before proceeding. 4. With a clear chamber but the weapon cocked and ready to fire, have her grip the weapon as though she were preparing to fire. Aim, trigger finger placement, etc. all need to be exactly as ready to fire. 5. Balance a coin flatly on the front sight blade. 6. Have her pull the trigger completely through and concentrate on NOT disturbing the coin. It shouldn't fall off until the trigger breaks and the EMPTY gun dry fires. If the coin falls before she completes the trigger pull, she tries again. She keeps trying until she gets to where she can break the trigger without disturbing the coin. It's a fun game, it teaches good trigger discipline, and costs nothing so long as you make SURE that the weapon is unloaded. Otherwise you may end up needing a new television, wall, dog, door, microwave, kidney, etc. Did I mention that you need to make sure it's unloaded?
  8. Well, we already limit it so that you must have been here 30 days and made at least 50 posts before you can use the classifieds. I'm not sure I want to make it any more difficult for new folks to use that feature.
  9. Guys, all of you are presuming that there is a way to remove the Commit to Buy option from the classifieds. There is not. Committing to buy an item is a hard-coded step in the buying/selling process. I've searched the classified software support forum and there are several people who have requested that it be something we can turn on or off, but so far it has not been turned into a configurable item. As I have said before, the classifieds here are just a convenience that we try to provide our established members. The primary mission of TGO is not to be a trading post. I'm sorry if this seems like I'm being inflexible, but the bottom line is that right now we just have to deal with the circumstances as they exist. As soon as the Commit to Buy feature is made optional, we'll do away with it.
  10. <hater> Over engineered and over priced. </hater> Nice gun. It should serve you well for years to come; unless you trade it off for two equally reliable Glocks.

    And were back

I've got more updates to make tomorrow. Sorry.
  12. You know, it really chaps my butt that the importance of the feedback system is being downplayed when so many people clamored for it not too long ago. It's probably THE reason why we spent the money to go with the classifieds software. How about if when a person commits to buy and then reneges on the deal, we ban the sorry SOB for wasting everyone's time? If you guys are up for that, I'll set up a procedure for it.
  13. I've got a few that say "O" and Crap! beneath them. Pretty funny. I've kept them off of my cars lately, though. Don't really want to lose a client or potential client just because of their political views. No matter how wrong they are.
  14. I had a Knoxx stock on my old 870 and never found it to be all that "recoil reducing" in practice. Todd @ CIS bought the gun from me so I don't know if he still has the Knoxx stock on it or if it ever loosened up and started reducing the recoil or not. Maybe he can speak to that end once he stumbles across this thread.
  15. Hey guys... First and foremost I want to thank Bronker for getting this going. He sent me a check the other day that really helped out with some of the operational expenses here at TGO. All of the proceeds came from the sale of these stickers. Second, I also received a pair of stickers for me and they look GREAT. If you haven't picked one up yet, you really should consider it. Not only does it help us keep the lights on, but it's also a great piece of swag that will look good on your car, truck, boat, dog, gun safe, covering a neighbor's Obama '08 sticker, etc. Finally... Bronker mentioned to me that he still has quite a few of these left, partially because some folks hadn't carried through with their expressed intent to buy one or two. Folks, if you can at all spare the change, please go ahead and carry through on your prior comittment. Part of the reason that I personally haven't offered anything like this to TGO members is the fact that, sadly, I often get stuck holding the bag at the end of day. These things cost something to make so when people pre-commit and then don't carry through, the guy who paid to have them made is left in the hole. If you did mention that you'd buy one, please do so... even if you do it only because you want to help Bronker cover his cost. I know Bronker would appreciate it. Thanks.
  16. Your friend should have said "OK" and then put his firearm against the instructor's head and pulled the trigger.
  17. PRO for an Automatic: Softer recoil makes it easier (and less scary) for most female shooters. Just something for the resident He-Men to think about if they have a lady in their life. My wife didn't care for a pump shotgun at all. She handles the SPX autoloader easily and with a more confidence since she knows it isn't going to buck as hard against her as a pump gun will. Sure, it not be as painless as an 870 to disassemble and clean... but it's not that hard either. And if taking a few extra minutes to service my shotgun is what it takes to provide a home defense weapon that my wife will actually USE instead of skipping over to go to a handgun in the middle of the night, then that's what it takes. Small concession for me to make. Just some food for thought.
  18. I really like my Mossberg SPX. You do not want to be on the receiving end of it.
  19. Welcome. I would strongly recommend that you allow me to change your user name to something other than your email address.
  20. So... you spoke with one guy and you're basing your opinion on the NRA's effectiveness on that?
  21. Keep strong. I lost my grandfather a few years ago. I'm going to be honest and tell you that was one of the worst things I've had to endure. His passing was sudden and without warning; I never got a chance to tell him the things you're hoping to have a chance to tell yours. My prayer is that you'll get the opportunity and that you'll face the days ahead with the sort of strength and resilience that I'm sure would make him proud. God bless.
  22. It was the HTML that his copy and paste brought over. I fixed it.
  23. Note to the Original Poster... I had to visit the link, click the Send To Printer option and then copy and paste the text from their printer-friendly version in order to fix the first post in this thread. Seems that if you just copy and paste from their web site version, it really hoses things up. Not a big deal but just wanted to let you know what would work better for you (and us) in the future.
  24. One of our members pointed out to me that the former name of this particular forum (Concealed Carry and Self Defense) showed an obvious bias toward concealment and did not recognize that the State of Tennessee currently allows open carry with permit. While I am not an advocate of open carry, the fact remains that it is permissible so long as you have a current valid Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit. Rather than create an entirely new forum devoted to Open Carry, I have renamed this forum to simply be the Handgun Carry and Self Defense forum. One size fits most.
  25. Weird. I made no changes at all.
