Guys, if he lives in another state then it has to go through an FFL. Let's not have any of this sneaky "the less they know" crap since it's essentially advocating an illegal act. We don't need that sort of nonsense on TGO. We do it above board here or we don't do it.

So I decided to try my hand at Duracoating...

Makes me want an orange dreamsicle. -
He's using one of the canned avatars that I put together for TGO back when I first launched the site. It's a Speer Gold Dot. I wasn't sure at first but I found the original photo on my hard drive.

I'd be afraid that a street cone would try to hump my rifle. -
1,000 rounds hasn't even broken in a USP as far as I've ever seen. The round count wouldn't scare me at all and sure, it would be an excellent carry weapon provided that you shoot it well and it feels comfortable to you. I'm not sure if that price sets well with me or not but those handguns do command quite a premium even on Gunbroker. I see them listed there in the $900 range new.

Reportedly the US Army mounted cavalry originally tied their grip safeties down with strips of rawhide, much to the chagrin of JMB. You could always do that, but I wouldn't recommend it. Sorry, just a bit of useless gun trivia for you.

This is destined to become an SNL skit.

So I decided to try my hand at Duracoating...

I could definitely give it a shot. I'm probably going to pick up a HVLP detail spray gun sometime soon and use that on some old AR15 furniture that I have laying around. I think that style of gun will provide even better coverage. Sooner or later I want to try Duracoating a complete firearm and baking it in the oven. I'd like to find some slag frames or slides to try it on first though. -

I just ordered 4oz of the Pink Lady coating this last time but have some matte black in storage. I need to order more of their reducer and hardening agent before I can do more spraying but plan to do it soon. What colors were you looking for? -

There's nothing worse than having a girl with a pink gun out-shoot a guy with funny jokes. -
Apparently one of the photos and a few comments made in this thread have gained some notoriety and are creating a bit of a stir with the purveyor of said HCP badges and permit-carrying pouches. I received a fairly lengthy PM this afternoon from said person regarding the photo and replies. If any of you also have received PMs from this person, please forward them to me for inclusion in our response. I'm assembling a packet of information for review (and reply from) legal counsel if necessary. Thanks.

I'm telling you... the outbreak has already begun. Someone over there keeps electing members of the Ford family to office so how else can you explain it?

Welcome. It appears that Memphis is preparing itself for the impending zombie apocalypse. Nice!

TGO hats are good for that. The upcoming TGO polo shirts work good also.

Thanks. I tell people all the time that my old 3913 was the one of the best 9mm that I have ever owned. I was elated to find this 3914 down at Hero Gear and would have bought it for myself had my wife not taken to it. -

I don't think it turned out too bad for my first time using Duracoat. I may change the recipe a bit the next time I do a set of grips as there are some things that I want to try to see if I can achieve a better finish. One trick that I learned was to reduce the air pressure a bit to get a "spattering" effect to create a slightly rougher texture. I didn't want the grips to turn out slick, so a little added texture was a bonus. We're going to give it a few weeks to fully cure before she takes it shooting again. -

Eh, concealed carry can be just as educational and sometimes even more effective. I've had the pleasure of surprising a few acquaintances over the years with a remark about having my HCP and never going anywhere without a gun. "Really? You carry a gun? I would have never guessed." "Really? But you seem so normal. <laughter>" "No ****?" All of those are literal quotes. And usually the exchange ends up with yes, I'm carrying right now - can't you tell? And... here's the name and number of some folks that I'd recommend that you take your carry permit class from. Sure, we can go shoot sometime. You're welcome to shoot anything I own. etc. The element of surprise is a fun thing.

Are these things significantly cheaper than Glock factory mags? I can order Glock mags all day long from CDNN (used and new) or from any number of other online retailers and most gun shops have plenty of Glock mags in stock as well. There are some things I'll cheap-out on and some things I won't. Mags aren't one of them.

I did notice that a few vendors were preemptively discounting some of their prices on Sunday. Signs were up on a couple of tables announcing that handguns were $25 off of the listed price, etc. A few tables had prices that were actually within reason of what you see at gun shops instead of having the typical gun show inflation.

Home Defense Ammo? What brand/type do you use?
TGO David replied to a topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I disagree. The major manufacturers put out some turds here and there. I used to carry Hornady TAP in my 9mm handguns until I got a little encouragement to seek out ballistics tests on them. They aren't all that great. Now I carry Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P in my 9mms. Tests bear out that they provide good expansion and penetration. Shot placement is key, but it really doesn't matter if you're making all A-zone hits but you're not getting deep enough to cause significant trauma. To the original poster: Do some research on whatever you decide you want to carry. Then buy some, shoot it and see if you and your gun both like it. -
We have a hard enough time getting firearms owners to do something that would actually benefit them... like calling or emailing their elected representatives to encourage pro-firearm legislation.

And the plot thickens.

The warm weather is finally here again and that means it's time to kick off another season of TGO Middle TN Meet & Shoots !!! WHEN: SATURDAY, MAY 16th @ 11:00am WHAT: Middle Tennessee TGO Meet & Shoot WHERE: Spring Hill, TN (Owl Hollow Shooting Range) Cost to shoot as a guest is $5.00 per person. You must supply your own eye and ear protection, paper targets and target hanging materials. Rifle lanes require a heavy duty stapler and cardboard to hang targets to the backstops. The handgun pit requires cardboard, stapler and/or heavy tape to hang targets from the backstop. Recommend that you bring insect repellent and bottled water or soft drinks. Alcohol is not allowed! Weather dependent, also bring sunscreen and/or shoes that you don't mind getting muddy and dirty. This is an OUTDOOR range. Directions To Owl Hollow Shooting Range Range is located approximately 10 miles south of downtown Franklin, Tennessee in Williamson county. From I-65 South/North take the Peytonsville Road exit, #61; go West about .7 mile to the red light at South US 431 (Lewisburg Pike); turn South (towards Lewisburg) onto US 431 and go approximately 6.5 miles to Owl Hollow Road; turn west onto Owl Hollow Road; the range is located approximately 1.1 miles on the left side of the road. Approximate GPS Coordinates for those with GPS devices: Latitude 35.7606 N ; Longitude -86.8571 W *** There will not be an organized lunch connected to this month's get together *** Important Update Regarding Owl Hollow: As many of you know, the Owl Hollow Gun Club no longer has the lease for the shooting range. The range is now being run by the landowner. I spoke with the landowner yesterday and he is fine with us continuing to meet there during the summer provided that we police ourselves and ensure that everyone is being safe and responsible. Some changes that should be mentioned are: There is now only the 25yd pistol pit. The short pistol pit has been closed down as of this writing. Only handgun calibers may be shot in the pistol pit. Centerfire rifle calibers may not. We did shoot some defensive shotgun (12ga) in the pistol pit yesterday and the owner did not appear to have a problem with that. Full auto weapons are not allowed to be fired in full auto. If you have a full auto, you can bring it and shoot it but you have to stay in single fire mode. Rapid firing is permissible as long as it is kept in 3-round, controlled strings. Bump firing is forbidden. Anyone doing anything unsafe will be asked to leave. Period. That's pretty much it. We will review these rules again on the day of the event just to make sure that there are no gray areas. It's imperative that we respect the wishes of the landowner if we want to be allowed to meet there again. Look forward to seeing you guys there!

Careful, guys. Karma can be a real bitch sometimes. I know folks who have had a lot of gun handling experience who made an error in judgment and put a round into the dirt unexpectedly. This should serve as a reminder to all of us to be very vigilant about the condition of our firearms when handling them. And also a reminder to carefully watch the counter monkeys at gun shops when they hand us something to look at. Most folks will show clear before doing so. If they don't, make them.
