I did notice that a few vendors were preemptively discounting some of their prices on Sunday. Signs were up on a couple of tables announcing that handguns were $25 off of the listed price, etc. A few tables had prices that were actually within reason of what you see at gun shops instead of having the typical gun show inflation.

Home Defense Ammo? What brand/type do you use?
TGO David replied to a topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I disagree. The major manufacturers put out some turds here and there. I used to carry Hornady TAP in my 9mm handguns until I got a little encouragement to seek out ballistics tests on them. They aren't all that great. Now I carry Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P in my 9mms. Tests bear out that they provide good expansion and penetration. Shot placement is key, but it really doesn't matter if you're making all A-zone hits but you're not getting deep enough to cause significant trauma. To the original poster: Do some research on whatever you decide you want to carry. Then buy some, shoot it and see if you and your gun both like it. -
We have a hard enough time getting firearms owners to do something that would actually benefit them... like calling or emailing their elected representatives to encourage pro-firearm legislation.

And the plot thickens.

The warm weather is finally here again and that means it's time to kick off another season of TGO Middle TN Meet & Shoots !!! WHEN: SATURDAY, MAY 16th @ 11:00am WHAT: Middle Tennessee TGO Meet & Shoot WHERE: Spring Hill, TN (Owl Hollow Shooting Range) Cost to shoot as a guest is $5.00 per person. You must supply your own eye and ear protection, paper targets and target hanging materials. Rifle lanes require a heavy duty stapler and cardboard to hang targets to the backstops. The handgun pit requires cardboard, stapler and/or heavy tape to hang targets from the backstop. Recommend that you bring insect repellent and bottled water or soft drinks. Alcohol is not allowed! Weather dependent, also bring sunscreen and/or shoes that you don't mind getting muddy and dirty. This is an OUTDOOR range. Directions To Owl Hollow Shooting Range Range is located approximately 10 miles south of downtown Franklin, Tennessee in Williamson county. From I-65 South/North take the Peytonsville Road exit, #61; go West about .7 mile to the red light at South US 431 (Lewisburg Pike); turn South (towards Lewisburg) onto US 431 and go approximately 6.5 miles to Owl Hollow Road; turn west onto Owl Hollow Road; the range is located approximately 1.1 miles on the left side of the road. Approximate GPS Coordinates for those with GPS devices: Latitude 35.7606 N ; Longitude -86.8571 W *** There will not be an organized lunch connected to this month's get together *** Important Update Regarding Owl Hollow: As many of you know, the Owl Hollow Gun Club no longer has the lease for the shooting range. The range is now being run by the landowner. I spoke with the landowner yesterday and he is fine with us continuing to meet there during the summer provided that we police ourselves and ensure that everyone is being safe and responsible. Some changes that should be mentioned are: There is now only the 25yd pistol pit. The short pistol pit has been closed down as of this writing. Only handgun calibers may be shot in the pistol pit. Centerfire rifle calibers may not. We did shoot some defensive shotgun (12ga) in the pistol pit yesterday and the owner did not appear to have a problem with that. Full auto weapons are not allowed to be fired in full auto. If you have a full auto, you can bring it and shoot it but you have to stay in single fire mode. Rapid firing is permissible as long as it is kept in 3-round, controlled strings. Bump firing is forbidden. Anyone doing anything unsafe will be asked to leave. Period. That's pretty much it. We will review these rules again on the day of the event just to make sure that there are no gray areas. It's imperative that we respect the wishes of the landowner if we want to be allowed to meet there again. Look forward to seeing you guys there!

Careful, guys. Karma can be a real bitch sometimes. I know folks who have had a lot of gun handling experience who made an error in judgment and put a round into the dirt unexpectedly. This should serve as a reminder to all of us to be very vigilant about the condition of our firearms when handling them. And also a reminder to carefully watch the counter monkeys at gun shops when they hand us something to look at. Most folks will show clear before doing so. If they don't, make them.

Glock 19 ≠ .40SW

The NRA should sue him for defamation of character.

I sure as heck wouldn't.

Just like Christmas morning...a trio of new holsters!
TGO David replied to BrandonTN's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Nicely done. I'm a huge fan of the pocket A-Holster and MTAC. Like you, an M&P Compact of some sort is on my radar once again. I recently added a full-size 9mm to compliment my full-size .40SW so it's only natural to add a compact, right? -
I'll check into it.

I bought a small oil-less compressor kit from Harbor Freight and may pick up a better two-stage air brush from Paasche later if I decide I enjoy doing this. But so far, so good. The first project is making a set of custom pink grips for my wife's Smith & Wesson 3914. I have already applied the white base coat and will be doing the pink coats later today. Pics when I'm done.

Senate strips curfew from guns in bars legislation
TGO David replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
You sound like a man who could use a good pocket gun. I kid, I kid. -
I have Warren Tactical dot-over-dot on my M&P 40. Front is larger green, rear is smaller dim yellow. It works very well.

I used to go racing at Gleason.

New T-Shirt for the Ladies...........
TGO David replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I think I have seen this on Those Shirts - Conservative T-Shirts or maybe Life, Liberty, Etc. Pro-gun stuff for pro-gun folks. Edit... Nope, they don't have it. But they do have cool shirts. -
Coolness. Did you score that at a local shop or did you order from Amazon?

Naifeh isn't an idiot... he's just a crafty SOB who knows how to push the media's buttons and use them for his agendas. Tennessee will be better once he's completely out of politics; which likely isn't going to happen until he's kicked the oxygen habit.

Had a slight experience while leaving the mall...
TGO David replied to BrandonTN's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Which begs the question, how can you make yourself appear less like a sheep and more like a sheepdog. I'm sure someone will say that open carry is a solution, so let's just set that aside and agree that not everyone wants to open carry or believes that it's the right way to carry. So what else? -
You may have had a PM that was sent from someone who was banned for spamming. When we catch spammers, we nuke their account and anything that they sent, but it could have left a flag set telling you that you had a PM.

Agreed. The 3rd Gen Smiths are highly underrated by most shooters, in my opinion. I should have never parted with my 3913 and my wife's recent acquisition of a 3914 was like a reunion with an old friend. It's one of those that we plan to never get rid of. And the 4506 and 4566 are both on my list of firearms that I'd like to own one of these days. Can't have one without the other.

The spit hoarders are clearly to blame for that.

NRA official rips weapons-ban bid Calls linkage to Mexican gangs 'phony' By Kara Rowland (Contact) | Monday, April 20, 2009 http://washingtontimes.com/news/2009/apr/20/nra-official-rips-weapons-ban-bid/ A top National Rifle Association official said the Obama administration is using the increasingly violent drug cartels in Mexico as an excuse to push for reinstating the ban on assault weapons. "They're trying to piggyback this whole phony issue on the back of the tragedy in Mexico," said Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the gun-rights group, on CBS' "Face the Nation" program Sunday. In a speech in Mexico last week, President Obama - who on the campaign trail called for reinstating the ban, which expired in 2004 - said that while the prohibition made sense, pushing for it now would be a political non-starter. But in the meantime, he said, the country should enforce existing laws more vigorously. White House senior adviser David Axelrod said in another "Face the Nation" segment that the administration will "monitor" the issue, which is complicated by opposition from dozens of moderate Democrats from the more- conservative "red" states. "If there's a consensus, we'll move on it," Mr. Axelrod said on the program. "We're faced with an enormous array of challenges, and we need to make some choices as to which to pursue first." Pennsylvania Gov. Edward G. Rendell called on Congress to reinstate the ban, after three Pittsburgh policemen were killed recently by a man with an AK-47. But the Democratic governor said he understands Mr. Obama's decision not to raise the matter now, with major issues such as the economy and health care on the table. "But I think it has to be brought up in the near future, because every police organization in this country supports, virtually everyone supports, banning assault weapons," he said, appearing Sunday on CBS alongside Mr. LaPierre. Mr. LaPierre said that assault weapons are "functionally no different than any other gun" and that Mr. Rendell and other supporters of the ban are distorting the facts. The 1994 assault-weapons ban "was enacted ... on the basis of saying these were machine guns. That's a lie. They were rapid-fire. That's a lie. They made bigger holes. That's a lie. They were more powerful. That's a lie. It was lie after lie after lie," he said. "Congress found it out. That's why they let it expire, and lies that are found out don't get re-enacted." Mr. LaPierre also accused administration officials of misstating the percentage of guns used in Mexican crimes that are smuggled into Mexico from the U.S., challenging a popularly cited figure of 90 percent that Mr. Obama used in his speech. He said there is no proof for the figure, which has also been referenced by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. "I challenge the president of the United States and the media to prove that 90 percent of the guns used by the drug cartels are being smuggled," Mr. LaPierre said. "The only people that have ever put up their hand in the air and testified under oath on this is BATF, two weeks ago in Congress. And let me tell you what they said: 'I'm not sure where those institutes get these numbers,' " Mr. LaPierre concluded, referring to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. A recent Fox News analysis of the issue noted that the statistic only covers some of the guns that were submitted by Mexico to the BATF for tracing. Of those 11,000 guns, almost 6,000 could be traced, and more than 5,100 of those were linked to the U.S. - or close to 90 percent. The statistic excludes the 5,000 guns that could not be traced, and also leaves out the 18,000 guns from Mexican crime scenes that were never sent to the U.S. because it was obvious the weapons came from somewhere else. Mr. Rendell did not address the statistic. In the often-tense debate, both men echoed traditional arguments for and against increased gun control. "There's absolutely no reason under the sun, no rational reason that we should allow people to legally possess these types of semi- automatic assault weapons. They're made for one purpose. They're not used in a duck line for hunting. They're not used in the Olympics for target shooting. They're used to kill and maim people, and most often it's police officers," Mr. Rendell said. Mr. LaPierre argued that increased gun-control limits won't deter killers and other criminals. "Don't you get it? They're criminals. They violate all your laws," he said.

There's a reason why there are more S&W firearms in my collection than any other brand. Frankly, back in the early 2000's I wouldn't given a warm pitcher of spit for a Smith and Wesson firearm because of the way the previous company ownership had turned it's back on the American gun owner and caved in to the Brady Campaign moonbats. It was 2006 when I first saw the then-new M&P automatics and spoke with a Smith and Wesson company rep about their new 100% American ownership, and decided to take a chance on them again. I've been sold ever since and have been rooting for them to overtake Glock in LEO and civilian markets. They still have a long way to go before they completely take back the LEO market, but they are gaining ground and superb customer service is one of the main reasons.
