Crosspost: Blackhawk SERPA Safety Issue
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I'm not in any better shape... probably worse since you're active .Mil and I get to be lazy a lot... but I managed somehow. It probably looked like a T-Rex trying to bear-hug a watermelon, but it happened. -
I'm really killing my own thread with these off topic comments, but after reading Page 1 of that thread... wow. The idiot factor is strong with those guys.
-
Werd and then some. I'm really just looking at it from a "Eh, I haven't done this yet so it might be fun to try" perspective. None of my DGI guns have ever, ever dicked up on me because of the direct impingement system. None of them.

Taking a moment to temporarily hijack my own thread... That dude is a douchenozzle.

I'd like some feedback on their uppers. I'm giving serious consideration to going with a piston-driven upper on my next AR build.
-
Dammit. I had no idea. That's what I get for not asking, right?

Bravo Company USA has them in stock right now but they won't last long. I just ordered one for my second naked lower that I've been needing to get built. AR-15 Lower Parts Kit Enjoy!

Crosspost: Blackhawk SERPA Safety Issue

I used to doubt the practicality of these training classes until I took one. Then I saw why it was such a good idea for anyone who has a HCP to take at least a good, solid defensive handgun class. This little trick is just one example of the sort of stuff you learn. Granted, the average guy hopefully will never have to do this particular drill for real. But if the worst happens, you now know how to improvise. And that's why the SERPA locking mechanism was called onto the carpet in the first post of this thread. It could potentially take a bad situation and turn it much worse. I'll also say that the vast majority of IWB holsters don't allow this drill to work. Especially for any of us who have a less than rock-hard midsection and have love handles that push against our handgun under normal circumstances. We learned other alternatives to this method in class, too. Like locking the empty firearm between your knees... -
Call Smith & Wesson customer service at 800-331-0852. Press option #7 from the menu. Tell them that you want to send your M&P in for a Performance Center Sear and some other custom work. They will give you the address and tell you to include a letter detailing exactly what you want done to the firearm. In that letter, explain that you want: Performance Center Sear Massachusetts trigger return spring Massachusetts trigger bar Polish of typical action components Send the firearm back to them by UPS or FedEx Overnight. You will likely need to go to a UPS or FedEx depot to do this as most convenience locations flatly refuse to ship firearms. S&W will call or send a letter to you upon inspection of the firearm, and provide a cost estimate for the work to be performed. They reportedly may try to dissuade you from this particular combination of items. This did not happen to me but it has apparently happened to a few other people that I've heard about. Stick to your guns, so to speak. About 3 weeks later you should get your firearm back. I called them once a week to get status updates since they aren't exactly on the ball as far as staying in good comm with you. I wouldn't have even known it had been shipped back to me had I not called them this week. That would have sucked since the item comes back requiring adult signature before the delivery person can release it. Since I called, I knew to stay home yesterday afternoon when FedEx typically runs our route.

USING AN EMPTY FIREARM... Holster on strong side. Strong side arm tucked behind your back to simulate it being inoperable. All operations performed using your weak hand! Place empty firearm on the ground in front of you with slide locked OPEN to simulate firearm having been run dry. 1. Pick up firearm using weak hand 2. Eject (or simulate ejecting) empty magazine. Leave slide locked OPEN. 3. Insert into holster on strong side of body with the magazine well pointed forward of the shooter 4. Retrieve spare (EMPTY!) magazine from weak-side pocket or pouch 5. With firearm still in holster on strong side of body, empty magazine well pointed forward, insert magazine into firearm and push until it seats. 6. Remove firearm from holster using weak hand. Strong hand still behind the back, imobilized. 7. Use slide release to simulate chambering a round from the spare (EMPTY) mag. 8. Resume the fight. -
Because all lawyers are scum, right? In case some of you haven't been paying attention, we have several excellent lawyers here on TGO and a few of them are even supporting Vendors here on TGO. I'm sure they appreciate the blanket statement that a trash can is a great place for lawyers.

Franklin Gun wants how much?!?

Until we stop having to kick ass in arid, desert locations or until all of the jihadists go color blind... you can pretty much count on FDE being the color of the day.

Adjustable height of comb, adjustable length of pull and side-foldable. I think function pretty much dictated form on that one and it turned out looking like the boot off of a pair of hip waders.

If I had the money right now, I would already own an FN SCAR. That being said, you aren't going to see a mass exodus to the SCAR in civilian or military circles for some time to come. The AR is indeed very well entrenched. It's my understanding that the SCAR is only being fielded by certain elements in the SpecOps community and that rolling it out to the average foot solider isn't even on the table as an option right now.

Folks, I apologize for not having more to say until now. Suffice it to say that the nature of this event and the fact that we are trying to involve so many important political figures and other Honored Guests has made the initial logistics of just choosing a firm date for the event a bit challenging. The good news is... you can now ink this onto your calendar! Celebration Of Liberty Saturday, October 17, 2009 - Christiana, Tennessee Presented by: TNGunOwners.com, The Outpost Armory and Barrett Firearms, Inc. I wish that I could go ahead and rattle off the list of people that we are working hard at getting a commitment for attendance from, but I'm not yet at liberty to do so. Let me just say that the list of people has me giddy as it involves some folks who are heroes of mine for their stance on 2nd Amendment issues over the years. I think you will all be very pleased and equally excited once we start posting these details. I have had a series of meetings now with Chris Barrett and other key players and we are all extremely pumped about this event. It should be made clear that it's not about promoting any one vendor or manufacturer, but about promoting the preservation of the 2nd Amendment and putting all of us as voting, gun owning constituents, in front of our elected representatives and vice versa. Of course none of this would be possible without the hard work and backing of the event's two primary sponsors (The Outpost Armory and Barrett Firearms) but they themselves emphasize during every meeting that this is not about them, but about our Constitutional rights and about motivating and mobilizing the voters. Top notch people all the way around. I hope these little teasers are keeping you as excited as they are me.

It's been my experience that a person's like or dislike of a handgun often stems from the way it feels in their hands moreso than the "kick" of the recoil. If you can find a handgun of a more potent caliber than .22LR that she likes the feel of, you might be surprised to hear that she doesn't hate those larger calibers after all. I'd really suggest attending the July Meet & Shoot down in Spring Hill and let her try a variety of different handguns.

Agreed. There is apparently a bit of hand-fitting involved with the Performance Center sear which slows down the production process and adds labor overhead to the handgun. That's why the M&P 9-Pro costs a bit more than the M&P 9L or the standard 9. The combination of the Massachusetts trigger bar and return spring with the Performance Center sear is one that does not come stock on any of the existing M&P models yet. Todd Louis Green over at Pistol-Training.com is working on a special edition M&P that will include these tweaks, but it has to be ordered through one vendor that he has already designated. I believe it is G&R Tactical.

And it is back in my hands as of about 5 minutes ago. The trigger is sweet now. Initial impressions: The M&P should come like this from the factory. But if it did, you should be willing to pay slightly more for it. Trigger reset is short and results in an audible click. It's still not as tactile as my Glock 19 trigger but I will concede that there are enough differences in the sear design that it might be impossible to provide that same "click" against your finger w/o somehow violating a Glock patent. Trigger reset is authoritative. The Massachussetts trigger return spring really shoves that baby forward. It's practically impossible to move your finger faster than the trigger can follow. There's no way to "slap" the trigger now. Pull weight may have increased slightly... ever so slightly... but the Performance Center sear is like butter, so you barely notice it. There is no perceptible creep of the trigger now and it breaks crisply and suddenly, like a glass rod. I'm going to send my M&P 40 off for this next.
