  1. I used to play the heck out of UT. I think I gave my boxed set away, though.
  2. My wife and I would love to attend this. Wednesdays would be fine, but Sundays would be even easier to accomplish. Let me know what we can do to help.
  3. Welcome to TN Gun Owners, Pete. I've often found myself marveling at some of the gun laws in Canada. Many of us south of the border often assume that it's so draconian that you can't own anything cool up there, but that's the one aspect that we often get wrong. The laws are indeed tight but you guys clear the initial hurdles for ownership, you don't have to jump through any of the regulatory hoops that we do down here to own short barrel rifles and such. I've got a friend (and TGO member) up in Canada right now on business. He didn't put you onto us did he?
  4. Hey... I still own 'em all.
  5. Does this mean... Single Barrel Silver Select?!?
  6. Sorry... this thread was a test to see who here is tacky and I have bad news for you.
  7. It can be parkerized or it can be shot with any number of spray-on finishes. I'd recommend a thermally cured finish like Moly Resin or Cerakote as they tend to hold up better. I've been using Moly Resin to refinish firearms lately and have had really good luck with it. Whomever refinishes your gun needs to make sure that they use a low air pressure when they media blast the frame, to avoid scarring the aluminum.
  8. It's a work in progress, unfortunately. I'm still waiting on a proper fix from the author of the server software.
  9. Read the last post above yours.
  10. I submit that perhaps you should consider it "a perfect carry gun" instead of THE perfect carry gun, given that all of us have evolving criteria for what we consider to be perfect. Not too long ago, you were hot and heavy for the Walther P99A (or whatever it was) and that was going to be the ultimate carry piece also. Not busting your balls, just pointing out that "perfect" changes.
  11. 1. Carry what works for you best and won't be so uncomfortable that you end up leaving it at home. A big gun left at home isn't as effective as a small gun carried with you. 2. Glocks don't go off by themselves, no matter what you have heard or read. 3. If you like a firearm with a thumb safety but want something smaller and lighter, there are plenty of options. Smith & Wesson makes several of the M&P automatics with thumb safeties, as does Springfield in the XD family, HK with the USP Compact models, etc. You do have options. 4. I don't see any point in having a thumb safety on a striker fired handgun so long as the trigger pull is not ridiculously light. But that's just my opinion and plenty of people disagree. It boils down to preference. I started out with a Ruger P89 years ago and ditched it as soon as I realized there were more ergonomic handguns of equal or better quality out there for roughly the same amount of money. If trading or selling it allows you some extra cash to put toward a firearm that you will carry more often due to size and weight, then by all means do it.
  12. Looking into it...
  13. From what the original poster wrote, it appears as though he may have thought that this was an unintentional flaw in the design of the Tech-9 that allowed full auto firing under the right circumstances. As Daniel pointed out, this is nothing more than "bump firing" and can be done with a lot of different firearms. I've seen it done with handguns, even. As responsible gun owners, we should be quick to point out that while bump firing is not illegal under current BATFE guidelines, any firearm that is designed to shoot semi-auto and then begins firing full-auto due to a true malfunction must be taken out of service immediately and either repaired or destroyed, again per the BATFE. Knowingly possessing a weapon that has either been illegally modified to shoot full auto or has become capable of full auto fire through wear or damage to internal parts, is a felony offense. The original poster seemed to be somewhat coyly suggesting this was a way to cheaply obtain a fully automatic firearm "under the table" ... which it isn't. But the implied intent of skirting the system is not something that we want on TGO as it appears to the casual reading as advocating an illegal activity. I'm closing this thread.
  14. Extremely illegal.
  15. I guess I misread the PM that you sent me?
  16. You might be able to have them media blasted on an extremely low pressure setting; just enough to remove the finish. If you do this, make sure whomever does the work uses an extremely gentle approach. Too much and you're looking at a ruined set of grips. I have done this for myself in the past but there's no way I'd do it for anyone else unless they understood full well ahead of time that there was a good chance that even on low pressure you might scar the wood. I would be wary of chemical strippers as they will almost invariably discolor the wood and raise the grain. Maybe check with Brownell's and see if they sell a gentle chemical stripping agent designed for this exact purpose.
  17. You know, I see questions like this a lot. I see them even being applied to why we charge a little money to allow people to use TGO to buy and sell things in our classifieds, even when we have never advertised ourselves as being a not-for-profit entity. Apparently people misread "not for profit" as meaning that an organization cannot make money. That's absurd. This is America and people are allowed to earn money. Any company can be listed as not-for-profit so long as they do not show a profit on their books at the end of the year. This means the people within the company can, and should, make money. The more they make, the more of the American Dream they are achieving. I have no qualms with Mr. Lapierre's income courtesy of the NRA. He likely has a 7-day a week job as a result and obviously doesn't keep cushy banker's hours, as evidenced by the many weekends, late nights, and early mornings that he is seen doing something on behalf of the NRA at this event or that event, radio broadcasts, etc. For some reason, it seems to be a common notion inside the "gun culture" that people shouldn't be allowed to make money... or at least not a lot of it. I see it at gun shops all the time when a customer expects the shop to not only give them a gun at a discount, but make the discount so heavy that essentially the shop is paying that customer to take their products. I just don't understand this.
  18. No, but I do add a little liquid car wax.
  19. 1,000% true and something people often forget or don't fully grasp to begin with.
  20. Ok... but why not just think about it from the angle of the gun show being a convenience to you, the consumer, rather than thinking about how the gun shops represented there aren't cutting you smoking deals across the entire spectrum of what they are selling? Sure, you may find some tremendous bargains at a gun show, but you also may get to visit a representation of 100 different top notch gun shops and vendors sampled from a 300 mile radius under one roof. To me, that's worth the price of admission. It saves me from having to take a one-thousand mile, one week-long travel circuit and all of the expenses associated with that were I to drive my car and visit each of these shops or vendors at their home bases. If we could find a person who would donate a top-quality, comfortable, modern, air-conditioned venue centrally located to five major cities and metropolitan areas, and be content to lose money themselves while everyone else made money for a weekend... we'd be all over that. Until that happens though, we have to operate within the realm of the realistic and accept that you can't put together an event like this without paying whomever owns the venue. The guy who comes up with an antidote for the "cheap consumer" is going to make a ton of money, provided people won't haggle him out of business once he starts selling it. Bud's has a retail location. You just have to spend your time to drive up to Kentucky and pay for the gas to get there and back. Maybe we can rent a TGO Tour Bus and make that trip some day.
  21. It is my understanding that the postage for much of the items being mailed out is paid for by the companies providing whatever goods or services are being marketed within. Therefore when the "NRA" ships you a packet offering life insurance or some other good or service that might be of interest to a sportsman or shooter, while the NRA logo may appear and it may be an endorsed advertisement, the postage was paid for by the advertiser and not the NRA. Also, and this is completely my own assumption here, but it is not uncommon for a large organization like the NRA to run at a loss to avoid massive taxation from the government. The same way that you and I might seek tax shelters by wisely "getting rid of income" via completely legal methods per the direction of our investment counselors, etc. Businesses do this all the time.
  22. An unexpected but useful byproduct of this thread has been that it made a few ingrates stand out from the crowd by lobbing accusations against the Administration of TGO (me, primarily) of surrounding ourselves with sycophantic members. Nothing could be further from the truth. However, I do take issue with the notion that these two feel they can come onto a forum that I've worked hard to create and grow, and make such statements in the first place. You don't go into a man's home and disrespect him, expecting not to be shown to the door. Apparently "manners" aren't as common in some parts of the gun community as I had originally thought. Therefore, these two will no longer be with us here. Edited to add... What appeared at first blush to be two people (Bullwinkle, Joeharris) has turned out to be one person using two different names to post in this thread. Actually, this person has had several accounts on TGO, all of which have been deleted. Crazy is as crazy does, apparently.
  23. That's a pretty idiotic statement. The NRA does not exist to save you from prison if you knowingly violate Federal firearms laws. As others have stated, the NRA is far from perfect but they are the best, largest and most well equipped lobbying organization in our country fighting to preserve our 2nd Amendment rights. Beyond the political aspects, the NRA works to provide funding to youth firearms education programs, training programs for law enforcement agencies, self-protection programs for women, and other educational programs. The effectiveness of the NRA drives the Leftists up the wall, perhaps best illustrated in a quote from former Clinton spokesman George Stephanopoulos who said, "Let me make one small vote for the NRA. They're good citizens. They call their Congressmen. They write. They vote. They contribute. And they get what they want over time." It is my opinion that if a Tennessean can afford to financially support just one pro-2nd Amendment organization annually, it should be the NRA. Not TGO, not the TFA... but the NRA. They do more nationally than any other organization, and are immensely effective at the state and local levels as well. If you decide to join, fee free to use the link provided at the bottom of every TGO page to do so or just visit NRA and sign up there.
  24. Did they do it as a tongue in cheek sort of thing ... or what? Really hoping for the former.
  25. Thanks for the compliment.
