I don't want to be that guy (the regulars will know what I mean) but... have you ever taken a serious training class where you were put into stressful situations with your gun, or are you just speaking from a perspective of "this is how things have played out in my head when I've imagined them" ? Because, seriously, I used to think along the same lines as you until someone showed me just how much Murphy likes to f### with you when a situation is already bad. It's eye opening.

It's the complete lack of a dingus that makes the revolver infinitely superior.
-
Oh, sorry... I missed the and logos beneath your screen name, so I neglected handle your ego with the proper amount of care. I've shot with plenty of cops and soldiers before. Can't say that being either automatically made all of them that good either and never saw one that was fast enough to get the drop on someone who already had the drop on them. But whatever.
-
Really? Tell you what... stand in front of me, let me point a loaded Glock at you and we'll do the trigger pull two ways. On the first pull, I'll just put my finger at the extreme top of the trigger's curvature, above the "dingus" and you have a better than 99.99999% chance of walking away from it. On the second pull, I'll put my finger below the "dingus" and pull. You can tell me how effective the dingus was when you get out of the hospital.

If I throw a punch at you, your natural inclination is going to be to raise your hands to protect your face. If I throw a baseball at your head, same thing. It's a natural flinch instinct. The same instinct frequently occurs in shootings, as evidenced by the frequent reports of people who have been fatally shot also having bullet wounds to their hands and forearms. So, yes, this IS what a normal person in a self-defense situation might run into and you're just muddying the water with false information based on personal opinion. The FBI requirements for ballistic gel tests are set the way they are for a reason. That reason is based off of years worth of field data. I wouldn't discount it quite so quickly.

I always worry about people who don't take time to read the FAQ or sticky entries before asking why they can't post something for sale. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/firearms-classifieds/20223-why-cant-i-post-ads-trading-post.html

New holster for the HK45 courtesy of SharkTac

I'd say that they both pull the holster in equally tight. I can hide the HK45 with no problems under a regular t-shirt. -

Man... that is a ton of leather on that holster. M&P 40 in my MTAC again today. -
Shelby Co. TFA meeting: Let's beat up on the OC guy!
TGO David replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Let me take my Admin / Moderator hat off for a second so that I don't get any nasty replies accusing me of representing the "fold" poorly... [...Just Regular David Speaking...] I honestly believe that there are very few cases (as in 1%) where open carry is going to be more advantageous than concealed carry, and even then I would argue that the advantages are purely ergonomic rather than tactical. I further believe that a large percentage of people who open carry do so as a form of passive activism. They do it because "it's my God given right" or because "if we don't exercise our rights, what good are they" etc, ad nauseum. First of all, your holster isn't the place to be an activist. Your firearm is a tool for self defense. It's not a ballot box and it's not a picket sign. If you want to be an activist, there are better ways to do it that don't involve your means of self defense being displayed for shock value. Second, you can exercise your 2nd Amendment rights by (a.) voting, (b.) buying a firearm, (c.) obtaining a HCP and (d.) by carrying regularly. You don't have to carry openly, just frickin carry the damn thing. Third, there are significant advantages to be had in blending in with the scenery and you aren't going to do that while open carrying unless you're in the middle of a pack of police officers and you're in uniform yourself. The military spends an obscene amount of time, energy, resources and money on perfecting camouflage for a reason. Hunters do the same. Because blending in makes sense, both from an offensive and defensive perspective. There simply is no reason to walk around showing your hand, so to speak, when you can play those cards close to the vest and have the element of surprise on your side. The 1% of people who cannot carry concealed due to physical limitations or ergonomic concerns (i.e. the guy who can't wear an IWB holster because he has too many Burger King deserts crammed into his belt line) get a free pass on this... and grudgingly even then. I know people who are in wheel chairs who still manage to conceal their sidearms. Plus, I'm a fatty myself but somehow I manage to use an IWB holster and some pretty big-ass guns inside them to boot. I realize this will fly all over the "It's my God Given Right as an American!" contingent and I respect that. But I also think they are well meaning but a little misguided in this instance. Yes, it's your Right... and no one is questioning that. Some of us just question whether or not you're getting the most out of your Right from a practical perspective. Shelby Co. TFA meeting: Let's beat up on the OC guy!

Senario 3: Bad guy comes up behind you while you're bent over in your car and grabs your gun out of it's holster (since you're open carrying) and then proceeds to really ruin your day. Senario 4: Bad guy comes up behind you while you're bent over in your car and sees that you're open carrying. He decides to just pump a few rounds into you and steal your wallet, car, etc. rather than risk confronting you on equal footing. -
Maybe it's because their interpretation of the 10th Amendment isn't the same as what yours is?

Those of you who dared to think big... New Firearms Event Coming Soon!

I'm one of the first to kick Microsoft in the balls for doing something wrong, having made a good living supporting their junk for the past 15 years or so. Problem is... they got this one right. The bad news is that people will probably avoid Win7 for a while because of how monumental of a dick-up Vista was. Pity.
-
I have a pre-order for Snow Lep with Amazon, so I'm looking forward to receiving my copy soon. Meh... I get tired of comments like this. Windows 7 is the version upgrade that Vista should have been but failed miserably at. It's as stable as XP and is lightyears more improved than Vista.

Shelby Co. TFA meeting: Let's beat up on the OC guy!

I suggest taking this up with John Harris and voicing your discontent. While the TFA doesn't control what their members (or guests) say, that chapter should have done a little better job vetting this speaker before putting him front and center to ramble off a stream of patently false information. -
Those of you who think that some "attitude" was warranted in this encounter seriously need to stop and consider that the flip side of this could have been him being escorted off the property. Property owners can post prohibited or flat out tell you to leave. What harm was done with him showing the guard his permit? He satisfied their concerns and was allowed to continue on his way. It doesn't really matter that the guard has no legal authority to demand his HCP. He could have just shown him out and told him never to come back.
-
While he has no legal right to ask you to see your permit, he is working for a company that has a legal right to prohibit you from carrying there if they so desire. You took the path of least resistance, which I think was smart given your options of either complying or being forced to leave.

Yep... the Tenifer process that Glock applies to their slides is super strong stuff and leaves the slide looking just like that when I media blast them for re-finishing. Its pretty cool looking.
-
That's an excellent first post and speaks to so many of the reasons why most of us here carry for our protection as well. Welcome to TGO.

New holster for the HK45 courtesy of SharkTac
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I think you will be pleased if you go this route. I'm wearing my HK45 in the holster that Brandon made and it's super comfortable. The way he mounts the belt loops even provides flexibility in ride-height, so I raised the holster a bit so that it conceals even easier beneath a T-shirt now. -
Stop by and say hello to Brandon at the SharkTac booth.

1. Faster delivery. On the spot vs. 6-8 weeks. 2. Thicker belt loops; less chance of the kydex breaking there. 3. Additional grommets to improve retention around the trigger guard. 4. Wider "sweat guard"; doesn't bite into your skin as easy as the narrower guards do. 5. Did I mention on the spot delivery?
