I'd inquire about a rear sight and see if they omitted it by accident. Do you have a close-up picture of the flash hider?

Very bad idea with a 1911. The firearm was designed to be carried cocked and locked. If you want to carry it with the hammer down, you need to just leave the chamber empty.
-
You're not the first and won't be the last, so take solace in the fact that no one was injured and just take the necessary steps to prevent it from happening ever again. PS: As you've found, de-cocking a 1911 is a bad idea. The best way to do it is to drop the mag, rack the slide to clear the chamber, top off the mag and re-insert it into the firearm, leaving the chamber empty and the slide forward when you do.

Why do FFL's around Middle TN charge so much to do private transfers?

Pricing-wise? -
Sure, I don't mind doing this again this year. I'll try to come up with a list of prizes and post something by October 10th.

There is a way to become a Benefactor by mailing a check. I don't want to be the bad guy here, but there are dozens of people on TGO who have invested into the community and some of them only because we require it for them to post ads. If I don't handle it fairly across the board, it is a meaningless program. Sorry, but this thread has to go. Honestly, this sort of thread really should result in a ban from the forum for at least 30 days and probably will from now on. I'm not doing it this time because I really don't want to be a dick, but you honestly couldn't walk into a store and steal a $20 item just because you didn't have a credit card to pay for it with and not expect punishment when caught.

There is no decal. They are all embroidered. Come to the October 17th event at Outpost and you can order a shirt there and I'll do my best to have some size options for our more "profound" members as well. If I don't stop eating Halloween Oreos, I'll need one myself. There aren't any shirts other than a few that I produced for the moderators a while back. None of them have pockets. A couple of the moderators and I attended one of the Guns n' Bars (or was that Guns IN Bars? I can't remember...) court hearings a while back and someone got a picture of us sitting there with our TGO embroidered shirts. I think John Harris was wearing one too. Or maybe they just associated him with us. Not sure. Here's the situation: These shirts cost money to produce and shirt sizes are harder to predict stock quantities for than hats because there is such a huge variance in the stature of our members. Anyone who attends the Oct 17th Second or None event [link] will be able to order a shirt for themselves. It will be a pre-pay arrangement. I'm not going to get stuck with the bill and a bunch of shirts. It's happened in the past and I'm just not going down that road again. Embroidery takes about 2 weeks and shirts will be mailed out to their owners as soon as they are done. I'll have several different style options available. Hope this helps.

Oh... that's Hillary Clinton's new ride.

Outpost Armory, Hero Gear, Guns & Leather all charge fair prices for their transfers and are actual gun shops. Belshire Hardware is... well... a hardware store. Fine for hammers and nails. I prefer to help support the shops that support the TGO community. -
Absolutely amazing.

Second -OR- None ... A Celebration of Liberty
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in Events and Gatherings
Understood. We have seen several companies express interest but also express their regret for not being able to because of tight budgets. None the less, we're going to have an amazing event and hopefully the JROTC program will still benefit greatly from it. -
As Fallguy said, Oct 17th is the Second or None celebration hosted by Barrett Firearms, Outpost Armory and TGO. Maybe the 18th is a better option?

NEW YORK — New York is seeing red over the decision to turn the city's highest beacon — and one of America's symbols for free enterprise — into a shining monument honoring China's communist revolution Wednesday night. The Empire State Building is set to be illuminated in red and yellow lights to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the bloody communist takeover. The tower is lit in white most nights, but nearly every week gets splashed with color to honor holidays and heroes — red, white and blue for Independence Day, green for St. Patrick's Day, true blue for New York's Finest. The building's managers say they have honored a host of countries, including Canada, India and Australia, but as of Wednesday that list of honorees now includes one of the world's last great authoritarian regimes. Second -OR- None ... A Celebration of Liberty
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in Events and Gatherings
I do not have that information, but let me clarify: Companies who make their donation to the Rutherford County Junior ROTC are allowed to set up a booth or table or display at the event in exchange for their generosity. As you may or may not already be aware, the Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps program exists "to instill in students in [united States] secondary educational institutions the values of citizenship, service to the United States, and personal responsibility and a sense of accomplishment." At the cadet level, the JROTC... Develops good citizenship and patriotism Develops self-reliance, leadership, and responsiveness to constituted authority. Improves the ability to communicate well both orally and in writing. Develops an appreciation of the importance of physical fitness. Increases a respect for the role of the US Armed Forces in support of national objectives. Develops a knowledge of team building skills and basic military skills. Allows the cadets to instantly rank higher if they pursue a military career provided that they participate for 2-4 years in the JROTC program. So these $500 - $1000 booths that you're asking about benefit some of the finest young people in Rutherford County's school systems. I don't think that's such a bad thing and hopefully neither do the local businesses. As for the actual costs of the event itself, we can all thank Barrett Firearms, Inc. and The Outpost Armory for signing the check since no one attending will have to pay anything unless they opt to eat a tasty lunch, the profits from which once again go to the JROTC program. -
Second -OR- None ... A Celebration of Liberty

That is correct. -
Yep... we've got it set as a recurring recording on our HD DVR, but hopefully I'll get to watch it live tonight as well.

It's one of those aspects of the community that I guess I never really felt much need to explain but I'll happily copy and paste from the admin control area what the various self-incrementing titles are. TGO Freshman becomes TGO Member after 50 posts and 30 days. TGO Member becomes TGO Senior Member after 500 posts and 180 days.

Don't forget the official Bacon Bra (potentially nws link, although still PG).

I hereby appoint clsutton21 the TGO Minister of Bacon.

Sheesh... someone keeps leaving the door unlocked.

Ya know... I've had it with this silliness. For some reason the tactic of openly arguing with the moderators has become your new thing, and we do have a rule against that as well. We ask that you take it up with moderators in private, but you've chosen to do it publicly several times lately. One week TEMPORARY time-out for you. This will give you time to cool down and reconsider this approach to things. And for what it's worth, my suggestion wasn't an attack on Ralph. It was merely an idea that would give him ample exposure to a Socialist society and allow him to form more educated opinions on the matter in the future. Sort of like how a temporary ban will help you make a more educated opinion on whether or not you want to keep shoving moderators noses in things you don't like in the future. This thread is done.
-
Can we take up a collection and buy Ralph a one way ticket to the former Soviet Union so that he can experience socialized medicine first hand?

So your complaint with health insurance rather than health care. Just to be clear, because there are two totally different worlds in the health services industry. You have the providers and then you have the companies who are making serious bank off of what the providers do for their patients. Doctors aren't paid nearly as much as most people think, especially if you divide their salaries by the number of hours they work. The people who are getting fat and wealthy from the efforts of doctors, nurses, etc. are the companies that employ them and to a much greater degree the insurance companies.
