  1. Those had nothing to do with the intent of this thread. That guy was just on his period about every single firearm/cartridge in popular culture. This thread is about all of the stupid things you've ever heard or read about a firearm.
  2. 9mm is just .45ACP set on stun You need to carry a caliber that starts with the number 4 (.45, .40, .44, etc.) I only carry a revolver because semi-automatics are failure-prone A person shot with a .45ACP will spin completely around / lose an arm / disintegrate The sound of a shotgun pump being racked will scare a burglar right out of your house You need a shotgun for home defense because you don't even have to aim it, just point it in their general direction
  3. I saw a thread similar to this on another forum and thought it would be fun to start one here. Feel free to add your own. 1.) If I buy a new pistol, my shooting will improve 2.) Low left - it's the sights/trigger 3.) The grip angle is very important to shooting well 4.) I only need 5/6/7/8 rounds for any gunfight I'll be in 5.) I don't need to practice malfunction clearance, I just need a "reliable" handgun. 6.) Practicing shooting weak-handed is a waste of time 7.) My XYZ pistol is better than your ABC pistol because it is metal/plastic/German/double-action/has a thumb safety/etc
  4. Subtle... it snuck right up on me.
  5. Congrats! You've begun thinning out the nitwits that you unknowingly associated with.
  6. Way to go. If Google breaks today, I'm telling on you.
  7. By the way, spacing the letters out in words to add emphasis (L I K E T H IS) is pretty goofy and not only makes the posts hard to read, but also renders parts of what you say completely useless to our site's search engine. If you want to add emphasis, use the editor to add bold text, italicized text, underlined text or something like that. It will work better for the humans reading your posts and the site's search engine for indexing and cataloging what is said for the benefit of others. Thanks.
  8. Different tastes are what make capitalism a great thing; there's a gun manufacturer out there who probably makes whatever you like. That said, I just have a pet peeve when some people say that XYZ is an unsafe or inferior product because it isn't in line with their personal preferences. I see a lot of people get steered wrong in gun shops, by gun owning friends, and by things said on the internet because of personal preferences being misrepresented as facts. Preference: Glocks aren't for me because they don't have an external safety, and I prefer that sort of configuration on a handgun. Misrepresented as a "Fact": Glocks are unsafe because they don't have an external safety. You'll shoot yourself in the face just by looking at one.
  9. No. What is safe to say is that you prefer the mental comfort of a manual safety switch as opposed to the three internal passive safeties in the design of the Glock. That does not mean that your CZ is a more safe design than the Glock. This horse has been beaten to death by countless others both here and elsewhere in the past. If an external safety is your thing, you don't need or want a Glock. It's not a Glock issue, it's an owner issue.
  10. Which is precisely no more safe than a Glock with one in the chamber.
  11. Why in the world...
  12. Yeah, it's the Micro T1. One of these days I'm going to replace my big-ass Aimpoint ML3 with that.
  13. A little care and common sense on the part of the operator would accomplish the same thing. Of course, Glock could always complicate their firearm by adding nanny features for the idiots who can't remember that they are holding a deadly instrument in their hands that deserves all of the care and respect of such when it comes time to field strip them.
  14. Supposedly within $50 of the Generation 3 models.
  15. As promised, all who contributed at least $100 to this have been gifted with Benefactor status for a few years to come. A few who contributed way more than $100 have likewise been given even longer Benefactor subscriptions. Thanks again for participating!
  16. I've always wondered if the various online petitions for whatever may be in vogue at the moment are really worth a ****.
  17. I saw this on M4C the other day and am still a little undecided on it. I use a stubby VFG as a hand stop, but I can also use it as a traditional vertical grip if I need. I'm not sure I'd ever "need" to do either, but the versatility seems like a nice thing to have. The Magpul Dynamics guys are huge proponents of gripping the foregrip thumbs forward. Actually, DaCosta seems to wrap his hand completely around the foregrip with his thumb going over and around the top circumference right behind the front sight base. It's crazy, but jeebus the guy can shoot it like that and never seems to drift off zero.

Have you tried the Smith & Wesson M&P series? The grip on them is phenomenal, IMO.

I don't think it could hurt. I've seen some other folks do that as well. Really your strong hand should be gripping the frame slightly less hard than your support hand to help reduce steering the muzzle with your trigger press.

A lot of "gamers" shoot with their support wrist canted forward drastically like that. I'm not using that term disparagingly either; they shoot really really good and faster than I do. My experience is that this stance requires the arms be almost completely straight and locked at the elbow. For a while there I flirted with shooting like that when I was hot for USPSA matches. But as I moved away from that and started thinking about practical shooting and human biomechanics, my grip has evolved so that my elbows stay somewhat bent, my head isn't so low into the sight picture but rather the gun further up to my eye-level, and my hands almost in a pugilistic configuration wrapped around the gun. It's still a thumbs forward style, but my wrist isn't cammed forward as far as yours is and I find that it gives me more maneuverability and stability for shooting on the move.

Ok, you cant your support hand forward a lot more than I do I guess. If I cam my wrist like that, the tip of my thumb is even with the leading edge of the trigger guard on my P2000. Not so much with the HK45... the trigger guard on it is much larger than that of the P2000 so my thumb doesn't even clear it. That's why I was having a hard time visualizing you having your thumb on the accessory rail of a P30, which is almost as long as the HK45.
  22. No problem.

You end up with your thumbs on the accessory rail... seriously??? Either you have orangutan hands or you're doing it wrong. Please post a picture of what you consider to be the modern-style thumbs forward grip.
  24. Love it.
  25. *sigh*
