  1. Don't see a problem with what you did. Congrats on holding fire.
  2. Well in this particular case I believe that the OP just wasn't pleased with the outcome of several threads. However, I do agree to an extent that we've again started to see more anti-establishment comments from people who hate the police, hate the government, hate people who don't vote like they do, etc. I want TGO to be a place where people can relax and enjoy themselves but I also want it to be a source of good information. As we've grown, I've noticed that sometimes the signal gets easily lost in the noise. Hopefully my schedule will start to gel a little soon and I'll be able to devote more time to the normal maintenance of the site. I also think that the moderating team needs to be resupplied and perhaps freshened up a little. Which comes as no surprise to the moderators as I've discussed it openly with them in the Staff area. Sometimes new blood brings new perspectives. Even if it's just adding to the ranks.
  3. Tuesday, February 9, 2010 - For Immediate Release From the outset we have told you all that we were determined to produce an event that was far more than just another ordinary gun show. We believe that there are plenty of those and that they have all set the bar -- and consequently the expectations of the consumer -- pretty low. The mission of the Guns & Gear Expo is to assemble vendors and factory reps not seen at run of the mill gun shows and to raise the level of what you, the consumer, are willing to accept for the price of admission. As we have inched closer to the March 2010 show date, we have continued to receive good feedback from those who attended the December 2009 event. Many of the comments have centered around location. Specifically, there has been an un-ignorable demand raised that the event be moved closer to a major metropolitan area. We agree. Sadly there is not enough time left to move the March show to either Nashville or Chattanooga (let alone to decide which) therefore we are canceling the March date and setting our sights on hitting the 10-ring for June. We feel that it is better for our vendor participants and for you as the consumer if we postpone rather than push forward with a "bad plan" and risk producing something mediocre. It should be obvious by now that we just don't do mediocre. Please watch this forum and the GunsandGearExpo.com web site for further announcements regarding the upcoming change in venue. If you would like to make recommendations on where you think the venue should be held (City, Location, etc.) feel free to respond in this thread or by visiting our web site and using the Contact Us feature there. Thanks.
  4. At first glance you'd think the two are in no way related. However on some laptops the battery is enough a part of the charging circuit (even with the power adapter plugged in) that a faulty battery will cause problems with other systems. We've seen this recently at work with two Dells and one HP laptop. While I have no proof that the Apple is the same, I have no proof that it is different either. If he knows he's having battery issues, I'd change the battery and see what happens. If for no other reason than the fact that a laptop with a known good battery brings more on the resale market than a laptop with a known bad battery.
  5. Yes, and no.
  6. Agreed. The decision befalls us all to either be a part of the solution or be part of the problem. Packing up your toys and going home does none of us any good. For what it's worth, I just don't have time to police the forum like I used to and am relying more on the moderators to do the dirty work for me. By and large they do a very good job, but there's only so much they can do in the present numbers. Perhaps it's time for some reinforcements.
  7. Pre-emptive strike by the US and Israel on Feb 10th?
  8. *sigh* You have a few minutes "buffer" anytime you post to go back and edit before the forum marks your post as edited. It's kind of obvious really.
  9. Everything I've read suggests that you'll kick yourself if you don't go with an OEM battery on these. The knock-offs just don't hold up.
  10. Chances are your battery is the problem. The battery in my MB Pro 15" died recently and it exhibited some of the same problems. Unless you're just dying for a new model, I'd try a new battery and see what happens.
  11. I'm not "insulted" by ignorance, nor do I view lack of literacy as demonstrating ignorance if you're going by the correct definition of that word. Ignorance implies a lack of knowledge of something. Many of the people that I've met with atrocious spelling and grammar were completely aware (even if they refused to admit it) that their grammar was horrible. Rather than work to correct it, those people and many of the guilty parties here, just arched their backs and became belligerent about it. Kind of like what you did in your response, even though it would appear that you aren't one of those that we're talking about here in the first place. A person who really cares about doing more than "just enough" will try to better themselves in some way. A person who doesn't care or is just too lazy to try to fix it generally assumes that "just enough" has gotten them by this long, so what's the bother. Like I keep telling my teenagers: The working world is short on jobs these days, and overstocked on people willing to do "just enough". If an employment opportunity is between you and the guy willing to do just enough, you need to be the guy with the edge. The ability to express yourself intelligently in both written and spoken form are most definitely edges to be had.
  12. I have come to the point where I try not to even engage this type of person in conversation. Just lay it out there for them and they can take it or leave it.
  13. We're going to have to agree to disagree on that point because I firmly believe that there is no excuse for being marginally literate. People routinely overcome illiteracy against tremendous adversity (such as those who fight and overcome dyslexia in order to master even the basics of reading and writing) so there's no excuse for someone to do "just enough" to squeak past the extremely low bar set by public education. I can't tell you how often I encounter people in the business world who write with less proficiency than what is typically deemed acceptable at a 6th grade level. It is a sadly common occurrence.
  14. You don't come across like any of the extreme negative examples given in this thread so far either so I don't think anyone views you like that.
  15. That's all good and well but it's my forum and I'd prefer that people at least try to be somewhat coherent in the way they express themselves. It looks better for all of us when we raise the bar on the lowest common denominator.
  16. No emotion here. I just asked you to do something simple for me and you did. Thanks.
  17. Really? Who's your Smith rep? Is he speaking for the company? Or did he really say that? Maybe you misunderstood what he said. If he really said that, he'll probably end up looking for a new job now that you've posted his words on the Internet. If he didn't say that, then you'll probably have some explaining to do when he gets called on it. It's not exactly hard to figure out who a Smith rep is for a given shop in a given area. You've probably got the same rep as every other S&W dealer in Nashville after all. Back to the subject at hand: Both Glock and S&W handguns are machines. Machines fail. All of them. Period. Glock has had it's share of black eyes from substandard production quality and faulty designs. They've worked out most of them and are now playing catch-up to the rest of the Firearms industry on things like ergonomics and user-adaptable grip configurations. I own several models of both. I'm carrying my Glock 19 a lot lately but I am just as confident carrying my M&P 40 or my M&P 9. Any of them could fail me at the worst possible moment, that's why we train to deal with equipment malfunctions. Failing to train is just training to fail. Back to your regularly scheduled Ford vs. Chevy gun bashing.
  18. I honestly don't think a reflex sight is of much practical value on a shotgun. Why not just go with a tritium post / ghost ring rear sight and save some cash and have something a little more durable for the long haul?
  19. Writing. And yes, it does matter. Like it or not, people will judge you to an extent on how well you express yourself in written form... especially on the Internet. While that in itself may not matter much, consider that your ability to use proper grammar also carry weight in the business world. If neither of those things concern you... so be it.
  20. If you would take the time to do it that'd be great. I'm a little busy these days.
  21. Could you shorten your signature... a lot? Thanks.
  22. This was originally posted as a rule on CornerCarvers.com and it expresses my feelings on the matter quite succinctly... Message boards are a non-verbal, written mode of communication. It is therefore incredibly important that you use correct spelling and proper grammar when composing your posts. Do not type in all CAPS, its considered shouting and in bad taste. It is also important that you plan out what you intend to say before you post it. Until it is possible for the reader to unscrew your head and read your thoughts, these two things go a long way toward ensuring that what you meant to say and what you actually said are close approximates of one another.
