  1. This would likely result in charges being filed against you for theft or some other similar transgression. Being that it is a firearm, that could end up becoming a Federal issue. Next time, use a credit or debit card. The CC companies will generally go to bat for you if something is wrong with your purchase. It's sad that you mention this was from an established dealer, especially if this dealer has a brick and mortar store somewhere. That doesn't reflect well on them.
  2. It's a Kahr... not a Springfield.
  3. You're pretty much stuck taking it up with the manufacturer. This is why I hate gun shows.
  4. You can get pissed all you want, but Tennessee is an "at will" state, therefore the only reason they have to give you is "because". Because why, doesn't matter. Just because. Because ...we don't need you anymore ...you suck at your job ...you suck at life ...you smell funny ...no one here likes you ...you wear plaid too much ...etc That said, if you look like someone who should probably be working the graveyard shift at Denny's (or just in a graveyard for that matter) you can probably expect to land those kinds of jobs. That's just life.
  5. I really wish this stigma would just die, but it never will as long as people keep making comments like this. I had a chance to meet the TR guys at the last Guns & Gear Expo -- including James Yeager -- and found them all to be very professional and personable. Training classes of almost any type, be it firearms, martial arts, automotive repair or pottery painting, will each have aspects that don't appeal to every student. It's incumbent upon each of us to take away from whatever class we attend the tools that "make sense" to us and leave behind the ones we don't care for. Case in point: I've attended several CIS classes now and no one has caught me wearing Tactical Slippers yet.
  6. Some questions are just better asked offline.
  7. It would require a gubernatorial pardon. I seem to remember something coming out of Nashville within the past year or two (perhaps from the AG) saying that restoration of firearms ownership pretty much was not a possibility, for whatever reason. I know that's vague but I honestly can't remember the specifics. Maybe one of our resident legal beagles will chime in.
  8. No.
  9. I refinished a friend (and fellow TGO member)'s Springfield MC Operator with Norrell's Moly Resin. Worked great.
  10. Site should be nice and fast right now. I made changes that will either get us kicked off of the server or prove to be the last level that I can bump it up to before we have to go to a dedicated host. If you try to hit TGO and can't in a few days... it was the former and not the latter. Cross your fingers.
  11. Got anything that needs to be sighted in?
  12. Agreed, but when you post something that someone could just glance at and assume, "Oh boy! There's going to be a tour for TGO Memphis members!!!" without first checking to be sure that's an OK idea with the company owners... you sew the seeds of confusion. Check first. Get approval. Then post it. The first two steps should involve private communication between you and the other party.
  13. No offense, but a Taurus 1911... while a decent firearm... is not exactly the paramount of 1911 build quality and the manufacturer has a really horrible reputation when it comes to warranty issues and after-the-sale support.
  14. Good grief... I hope you actually corresponded with the guy offline before you just threw that out in the open. If not, it was fairly presumptuous of you.
  15. Your map needs a representation of the assailant...
  16. Just for the record... this isn't a push for more money or anything like that. Even if we suddenly had $3,000 dumped into the community (about what a decent dedicated server would cost for a year) there's still the nagging little detail of me just not having any time to do the overhaul. Not for a few weeks at least.
  17. All of this reminds me of a slogan that we used to have on our server room wall back when I was a senior systems engineer at a major bank holding company... SPEED = CACHE = MONEY Of course, back then memory was significantly more expensive than it is nowadays. And then there are threads like this one that really make me want to devote more time and resources making the site faster for people who want to take advantage of everyone else's contributions.
  18. Nah. We'll just have a really fast site for a really short period of time. Or at least until the hosting company sees that the check bounced.
  19. Seriously... I just get tired of hearing the same stuff time after time. Yeah, the site gets slow from time to time. I'm extremely picky about server performance but so far the server is holding up reasonably well under the incredible load we put on it. I could tweak it for balls-out performance but as soon as I did, we'd get thrown off of the server by the hosting company for being disrespectful of the other folks who share the physical server that we're on. The ultimate answer is a dedicated server. That answer comes with a pretty hefty pricetag. It's where we are headed, inevitably, but we're not quite there yet. Moving to one doesn't just involve money. It also involves time, and that's something I have even less of these days. As soon as I have both of those commodities in enough supply, changes will happen. Until then, have some patience. And for what it's worth, I have spent the past 15 years of my professional life operating as a top-tier systems engineer very profitable companies supporting extremely critical systems. I didn't fall off of the cabbage truck yesterday and I know my **** when it comes to servers. TGO isn't mission critical and it doesn't operate with a multi-billion dollar budget, so I do the best I can with the resources we have at our disposal. Anyone who wants to write a couple-thousand dollar check to pay for better hosting and and a year's worth of bandwidth, feel free to contact me. I'll put your money to good use.
  20. I sure as hell wish I knew someone who did enterprise servers for a living. Oh, wait...
  21. I'm glad I read the entire thread before responding. This was my thought as well.
  22. Unfortunately the commander of my marital AO has decreed that my 30D is to be handed down to her. Sorry man. It looks like I won't be upgrading to a 50D anytime soon.
  23. I've noticed a few slow periods lately but nothing with it "locking up" so to speak. Keep in mind that once the server generates a page and delivers it to your browser, aside from some AJAX scripts that generate active content, the server is pretty much done with your session until you click something else. If it appears that the site has frozen up on you, chances are it's your browser.
  24. Brian... I've got a Canon 30D that I am probably going to let go of pretty soon so that I can move up to a 50D. It's a great DSLR and brings a bit more to the table than the Rebel series does, and I could give you the "in-neighborhood hookup" as far as pricing goes.
