Firefighters let man's home burn down over $75 fee.

Sure. But didn't he also agree to pay them whatever they needed so long as they just saved his home? -

So by this thinking, we all should hope and pray we never have a wreck or other personal emergency on our way through this part of the state... because if we haven't paid our $75 ahead of time, we're screwed. Or would a traveler just be taken care of au gratis rather than be forced to watch his car burn to the ground? Like I said... slippery slope. Seems that the decision was made to make a point. -
It's pretty well known that people should never, ever mess with me before my first cup. It's essential for both my happiness and their continued respiratory cycle.

Ok so what I'm gathering here is that ... It's ok that the fire department let this guy's home and all of his possessions burn to the ground to make a point. This fire department has no societal obligation to do the right thing; it has an obligation to extract $75 from you ahead of time, in exchange for which it will perform certain duties. Public safety is therefore a commercial endeavor and therefore if you don't pay, you suffer. Am I reading this right? Do any of you taking up for the FD in this case not have the slightest twinge in your gut that maybe, just maybe the wrong decision was made here and that the people responsible for that decision are complete a-holes? Because, you know... it seems to me that a FD should exist to serve and protect, not to charge and to collect. I guess I'm just old fashioned that way. I kind of expect more from people who go into certain vocations. -

All I'm saying is it takes a real son of a bitch to watch another man's property burn to the ground over $75. You can let that hit you however you want it to. Paid, unpaid... doesn't matter. People on TGO love to talk about the "slippery slope" in various arguments and I'm telling you, the slippery slope here is that this sets a dangerous precedent. Do you want some douchebag asking you for a credit card before he extricates you and your family from an overturned vehicle on I-24? Do you want him walking past your vehicle because it's got Knox county plates and you're overturned in Davidson county? I say bulls__. Volunteer or paid, these jerkoffs were on the job and their prescribed duty is to protect life and property. You can sort out matters of $75 AFTER. If I'm ever drowning in a flood and some jackass public safety representative pauses to rescue me to verify that I've paid my $75 to his town, I'm dragging that SOB under with me and choking the **** out of him with my last breath. Wrong is WRONG and I can't believe some of you are defending their actions. What they did was absolutely shameful and reprehensible. Further, I bet it didn't convert the homeowner to a future customer either. -

Sounds like a lot of fun. Hopefully you get some takers. -
Same. Warming up my Canon 7D and 24-70 2.8L for this. If someone tries to mug me I'm hiding behind their no-carry sign. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk

Crazytown isn't a good place to take up residence either. Our government has enough overt ways that they're trying to eff us. I don't need to go looking into the shadows if I want to be concerned that they're up to no good.

That's Plan B.

Two questions... 1. Anyone know if it's posted? 2. Anyone know if they allow cameras?

Meh. Anyone who has even a rudimentary understanding of radio knows that the conspiracies ascribed to this are complete bunk.

FOXNews.com - 911 Tape Released in Mexican Pirate Attack on U.S. Couple This stuff is getting old. Their government is almost as corrupt as our own [see what I just did there?] so I don't put much faith in the idea that the US will ever cough up the balls to actually do anything about it.

True enough. The threat of unemployment has thus far kept me from being very creative. I just use my aircard and my personal laptop during lunch, that way I'm on my time using my resources. They can't exactly police that unless they want me to start going completely off-campus for lunch, which would put them in a hurt since we're short-staffed as is.

I've got it loaded on both my iPhone 4 and my Droid X. It's my go-to for checking in on TGO when I'm stuck behind our corporate firewall at work.

We (at my job) block most proxies as well.

Websense is configurable, therefore the organizations using it can choose to block weapons related sites or not. I work for a company that has, in its complete lack of common sense, blocked firearms related sites (even sporting arms, hunting related, etc.) yet allows unfettered access to sites that discuss and advocate illegal drug use, neo-nazism, Black Panthers and other hate groups, as well as the purchase and sale of sex toys. As I am one of two people tasked with, among other things, managing our Websense installation and as I do possess common sense, I inquired as to why the company is blocking places like Cabelas, Bass Pro, Remington, Winchester, etc. given that we are here in the south and people do hunt for sport and sustenance. The answer? "Guns are bad, m'kay?" So suffice it to say that it's not Websense that is evil... it's just the morons that decide which policies to apply to Websense are evil. Oh, wait... there's a parallel with firearms hiding in that statement.

Nicely done, folks.

Smart bombs. I got an awesome taste of this weather when I was out in San Francisco the first week of September. It was just like this out there and I loved it. Brisk mornings, mellow during the day and brisk nights. They say it's like that almost all year 'round because of how the ocean and the bay play off of each other. I could totally live with that sort of weather if it wasn't for the fact that California has been ruined by the nutjob politicos.

Agreed. I guess what bothers me about this type of journalism is that it just gives ammo to the other side and allows them to refute conservative values the same way they do when attacking those rabid, extremist tea partiers [--their generalizations, not mine]. If we as conservatives / libertarians / constitutionalists would just keep an even keel and not resort to painting our opponents with such broad brushes, but rather exercise the scalpel of fact, we might stand a better chance of both being heard by and believed by the middle-of-the-road agnostics. Oh well. I digress.
-
Agreed. I haven't been hunting for the past few years for lack of property to do it on... but man this weather and that picture really make the blood get to flowing.

I'm not saying you didn't get the alert, but I do question the software indicating it came from here. I signed up for a year's worth of monitoring from a company that scours TGO daily and will alert me instantly if they discover any malware or links to malware. I don't want to have happen again what happened last week.

Absolutely my favorite time of year! Cool mornings, warm days and cool nights. I love this weather. Just makes you want to go camping.
