The city of LaVerge itself sucks but the part he's talking about is the Industrial Park which isn't so bad. Just very... industrial. LaVergne proper can be thought of as the DMZ between Antioch (gangville) and Smyrna (a nice place to live). It is a nice buffer therefore I'm glad it is there, however I wouldn't want to live in LaVergne. Period. There are nice parts of LaVergne, however, but unfortunately they suffer from the stigma of being part of LaVergne. I know several folks who live right across the Smyrna / LaVergne line and claim to be Smyrna residents even though they aren't technically. Sadly their property value doesn't reflect their personal beliefs.

Have you considered Lebanon / Mt Juliet? Both are in Wilson County. You're going to pay less for both real estate and on property taxes out there than you will in either Williamson or Rutherford counties. If I were to move inside the mid-state area right now, I would be looking at those places. Not to pick a bone with Mustangdave or anything, but Cane Ridge is still Antioch no matter how much the residents don't want it to be. They have made strides towards turning it into a very nice "Green Zone" (their own schools, their own post office, their own ZIP code) but the fact remains that prior to about 6 years ago it was all Antioch. What would help most would be a nice perimeter of concertina wire between Cane Ridge's very pretty upscale neighborhoods and the rest of Antioch. Maybe a moat. With a dragon. I'd seriously look for land along the SR-840 corridor between Rutherford and Wilson counties. Easy access to Lebanon, Mt. Juliet, Murfreesboro and Smyrna. Easy access to I-24 and I-40 for trips elsewhere. Lots of open space out there.

You don't feel stupid in the slightest referring to Jack in this way given that no one here has ever said that he shouldn't be referred to by name? Please. Have a good meet. Hopefully Jack can keep physical conversations on-topic.

True. I hate downtime, especially unplanned downtime.

Doesn't look like it was hosting related. Looks like the backup script failed. I have it coded to close the forum before the backup and open it after the backup. It failed and then never re-opened.

Well, there was no way I could have even known about it or fixed it since I was driving from Oklahoma at about 4:30am and didn't stop driving until about 3:30pm when I made it back to middle TN. Sorry it was down for you guys.

Not with vBulletin. Perhaps just a list below each photo?

You're the playinist' playa I know, Strick.
-
So who's who in the pictures?
-
Hmm... if there was a vBulletin maintenance notice there may have been an issue with our nightly backup script. I'll look into it.

You know, I just don't get it. 99.99999% of the people I am around on a daily basis outside of my immediate family and friends have no knowledge of the fact that I carry, nor should they. My gun is not who I am. I do not broadcast it, I do not flaunt it and I do not talk about it or firearms incessantly Maybe this makes me a poor posterchild for the right to carry, or maybe not. Perhaps just the opposite. My choice to carry a handgun is personal to me. It's not a showpiece and it's not a discussion starter. Carrying it is like carrying my car keys; a non-issue and a foregone conclusion. I don't even think about it anymore, and consequently I don't 'telegraph signs' to other people that it's on my person. No tugging down my shirt, no adjusting my belt, no patting my pocket to make sure it's there. It just is. Like a pocket knife or a wallet or some loose change. It's - just - there. I'd no sooner discuss my firearm than my underwear with a party of whom I wasn't 100% positive of their 2nd Amendment acceptance. It's my business and not theirs. Hell I don't even get into carry-issue conversations with folks unless I know their intentions before hand. Too many people go on fishing expeditions just to start drama or worse, so I prefer to know what I'm stepping into before I open my mouth. Honestly I think a lot of people could avoid a lot of headaches by volunteering a lot less information to others.

Huh? It must be the provider again. I'll have to email and see if they had a scheduled outage that they forgot to tell me about.

Looks like you all had a great time. Sadly I was probably just this side of Memphis driving back toward the mid-state area when this was going on, otherwise we'd have been there as well. Let's try to get something together for November.

Question answered. Thread closed.

That's pretty retarded, guys. Jack isn't even banned. Maybe Jack should stop derailing so many threads here with off-topic remarks and useless commentary and he'd be a little better received. It's amazing how folks support such jackassery.

Modified or non-stock carry handguns
TGO David replied to packingvol's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Carbon, no offense but everything you argued is purely anecdotal and borders on urban legend. I think you or I either one would have a hard time finding evidence of this sort of tactic being used with success in a court of law when the shooter was justified. Frankly these types of things strike me as being Chicken Little arguments against even owning a gun. If you modify it for better accuracy or reliability, you were looking to kill someone. If you use hollow-point instead of FMJ, you were looking to kill someone. If you carry a semi-automatic instead of a revolver, you were looking to kill someone. Bottom line is none of us are looking to kill anyone. We want to be left alone and we want to be able to protect ourselves and our families from the predators who seek to take what is precious away from us. If I was looking to kill someone, I'd have no problem doing it with any manner of device -- baseball bat, brick, hammer, screwdriver, knife, icepick... my bare hands. I hear what you're saying about these Liberal activist judges and attorneys looking to make a name for themselves and looking to twist the world into their vision of what it should be, but those guys are going to go after you even if you happen to fall asleep behind the wheel and run over someone's dog. Those vermin want you to reconsider being armed for your self-preservation because they don't want you armed in the first place. Again, my $0.02. -
Modified or non-stock carry handguns

Here are my honest thoughts on theories like this that get presented by well know gun-rag celebrities: I have a lot of respect for Ayoob and others like him, however they ultimately are paid for their submissions to these various magazines. After a while one (or at least I do) must begin to wonder how much of what they present amounts to personal hypothesis for the sake of generating a word-count to occupy space in a magazine or on a web site to generate revenue. Sure, I can see where an attorney might try to use your Glock's Ghost connector against you, or your choice of ammo, or your choice of sights, etc. But I can also see where as long as it was justifiable self-defense devoid of gray areas (i.e. a "clean shoot") that they can argue this stuff til the cows come home and it really won't matter much in their favor. Were an intruder to break into my home and attempt to do harm to me or my family and the only thing I had to defend myself with was a camping axe, would the implement used really matter? Oh, I'm sure some sniveling little reporter would try to sensationalize my use of an axe ... but ultimately it would be a clear cut [no pun intended] case of self defense and I would have been well within the law to defend myself with whatever I had at hand. A handgun is simply a more efficient means of restoring a balance of power between an aggressor and the victim. I'm not a lawyer, but I really don't think it would matter a bit if you had augmented your control over a handgun with better sights, a smoother trigger, etc. or chose ammunition with superior ballistics. Just my $0.02 worth. -
We've had them for much, much longer than that though. I think you just hadn't noticed them before now.
-
Eh? You can choose a preferred style here at the moment. I don't understand your statement. Most forums don't give you the option.
-
Actually that style may become the default and the other may go away. Designing for a 990 pixel width is the commonly accepted norm for most professionally designed sites so that it looks the same no matter what width your monitor is. Many major web sites use 990 px.

Sounds like you guys are having rough weather back home. Sorry to hear it. Hope everyone fairs this in good shape.

Congrats! A very enjoyable read as well.

It's a balmy NINE degrees outside right now. With windchill they're saying -1°F with a high of about 34°F for the day. This would be fine and dandy if the road out of town wasnt't all hairpin switchbacks most likely covered with black ice at this point.
