Well, there was no way I could have even known about it or fixed it since I was driving from Oklahoma at about 4:30am and didn't stop driving until about 3:30pm when I made it back to middle TN. Sorry it was down for you guys.

You know, I just don't get it. 99.99999% of the people I am around on a daily basis outside of my immediate family and friends have no knowledge of the fact that I carry, nor should they. My gun is not who I am. I do not broadcast it, I do not flaunt it and I do not talk about it or firearms incessantly Maybe this makes me a poor posterchild for the right to carry, or maybe not. Perhaps just the opposite. My choice to carry a handgun is personal to me. It's not a showpiece and it's not a discussion starter. Carrying it is like carrying my car keys; a non-issue and a foregone conclusion. I don't even think about it anymore, and consequently I don't 'telegraph signs' to other people that it's on my person. No tugging down my shirt, no adjusting my belt, no patting my pocket to make sure it's there. It just is. Like a pocket knife or a wallet or some loose change. It's - just - there. I'd no sooner discuss my firearm than my underwear with a party of whom I wasn't 100% positive of their 2nd Amendment acceptance. It's my business and not theirs. Hell I don't even get into carry-issue conversations with folks unless I know their intentions before hand. Too many people go on fishing expeditions just to start drama or worse, so I prefer to know what I'm stepping into before I open my mouth. Honestly I think a lot of people could avoid a lot of headaches by volunteering a lot less information to others.

Looks like you all had a great time. Sadly I was probably just this side of Memphis driving back toward the mid-state area when this was going on, otherwise we'd have been there as well. Let's try to get something together for November.

Carbon, no offense but everything you argued is purely anecdotal and borders on urban legend. I think you or I either one would have a hard time finding evidence of this sort of tactic being used with success in a court of law when the shooter was justified. Frankly these types of things strike me as being Chicken Little arguments against even owning a gun. If you modify it for better accuracy or reliability, you were looking to kill someone. If you use hollow-point instead of FMJ, you were looking to kill someone. If you carry a semi-automatic instead of a revolver, you were looking to kill someone. Bottom line is none of us are looking to kill anyone. We want to be left alone and we want to be able to protect ourselves and our families from the predators who seek to take what is precious away from us. If I was looking to kill someone, I'd have no problem doing it with any manner of device -- baseball bat, brick, hammer, screwdriver, knife, icepick... my bare hands. I hear what you're saying about these Liberal activist judges and attorneys looking to make a name for themselves and looking to twist the world into their vision of what it should be, but those guys are going to go after you even if you happen to fall asleep behind the wheel and run over someone's dog. Those vermin want you to reconsider being armed for your self-preservation because they don't want you armed in the first place. Again, my $0.02.

Here are my honest thoughts on theories like this that get presented by well know gun-rag celebrities: I have a lot of respect for Ayoob and others like him, however they ultimately are paid for their submissions to these various magazines. After a while one (or at least I do) must begin to wonder how much of what they present amounts to personal hypothesis for the sake of generating a word-count to occupy space in a magazine or on a web site to generate revenue. Sure, I can see where an attorney might try to use your Glock's Ghost connector against you, or your choice of ammo, or your choice of sights, etc. But I can also see where as long as it was justifiable self-defense devoid of gray areas (i.e. a "clean shoot") that they can argue this stuff til the cows come home and it really won't matter much in their favor. Were an intruder to break into my home and attempt to do harm to me or my family and the only thing I had to defend myself with was a camping axe, would the implement used really matter? Oh, I'm sure some sniveling little reporter would try to sensationalize my use of an axe ... but ultimately it would be a clear cut [no pun intended] case of self defense and I would have been well within the law to defend myself with whatever I had at hand. A handgun is simply a more efficient means of restoring a balance of power between an aggressor and the victim. I'm not a lawyer, but I really don't think it would matter a bit if you had augmented your control over a handgun with better sights, a smoother trigger, etc. or chose ammunition with superior ballistics. Just my $0.02 worth.

Actually that style may become the default and the other may go away. Designing for a 990 pixel width is the commonly accepted norm for most professionally designed sites so that it looks the same no matter what width your monitor is. Many major web sites use 990 px.

It's a balmy NINE degrees outside right now. With windchill they're saying -1°F with a high of about 34°F for the day. This would be fine and dandy if the road out of town wasnt't all hairpin switchbacks most likely covered with black ice at this point.

More is expected tonight. Unfortunately the county decided to scrape off the streets today, so we'll also have a ton of black ice. Thankfully the bartender at Ouray Brewery is helping us keep warm, and we've got natural hot springs to go soak in tonight during the snow shower.

Apparently the weatherman does hate me. Ouray, Colorado was going to be the cherry on top for our trip out west. Amazing offroad trails up in the mountains around the old mining towns. We arrived today just ahead of a major winter storm that is predicted to fall tonight... only to find that the trails are almost all already closed due to snow last week. I'm so pissed I can't even see straight. 3,000 miles and this.
