  1. I haven't read the graphic novels but my money is on the fact that Shane and skank were banging each other long before the zombie outbreak and before they thought Rick was dead. I seem to remember Rick relating that he and the wife were having some issues when he and Shane were eating lunch in their squad car at the first part of Episode 1. Besides, the wife doesn't seem to be mourning Rick very much... ya know? Zombies everywhere and she's letting Shane bury her face in the leaves and twigs in the forest. Gotta keep procreating! As I said, "skank". I hope she ends up dead soon.
  2. I agree. There were too many acts of stupidity committed in the show last night that distracted me and kept me from disengaging my brain and just enjoying it.
  3. I'm starting to get the idea that I need to buy this video game. A co-worker was all excited about it earlier this morning, and I don't think he even knew about the zombie mode.
  4. If someone has a gun pointed at me, I'm probably not going to waste precious seconds to determine if he's drawn the hammer back or not. Further, I'm not sure that the vast majority of people out there are knowledgeable enough about the Derringer model to be able to ascertain whether it was ready to fire or not, in a glance, under duress. This is why there are cases on record of police officers justifiably shooting someone they thought had a gun, only for it to turn out to have been a toy gun or some other object that they were pointing at them in a menacing fashion. If this all really happened in the first place, the crazy guy with the Derringer is going to end up getting shot sooner or later if he truly makes it a habit to do this sort of thing as the story went. I'm still thinking it's got a lot of earmarks of a tall tale, but it has at least spawned some interesting conversation.
  5. Will, the beauty of the Internet is that people can exchange ideas openly and sometimes that means without the apprehension that might come with debating someone larger, older or more "menacing" then they would otherwise in person. Some people care about those things. I'm not really one of them as folks who know me will attest. That said, I think what you're failing to recognize here is that these younger guys aren't necessary FOS but see a problem with your mindset.
  6. Happy to fail to meet your expectations!
  7. Politics and professional wrestling are both rigged, gentlemen.
  8. It's bad luck to sit with your J-frame pointed at you.
  9. Well this is going well.
  10. Welcome! The avatar rules.
  11. Added it this morning. Seems like we have enough threads to justify it ... and we all know its better to be prepared.
  12. Am I the only one who finds the 1911 more comfortable to carry than the 220? I've owned both and still own my 1911s, just not the 220 SAO.
  13. There is certainly an exception for every case.
  14. First it wasn't DaveTN that said it. It was me. Second, a skilled shooter vs. a skilled shooter is a little different story but I still put better odds toward survival on the guy who is moving and shooting vs. the guy who is standing still with his thumb up his butt. Back to the original statement, a skilled shooter who is moving, using cover and shooting is in a much better position than the typical moron criminal who likely has zero gun handling experience and only knows how to point and spray. The whole "Do ya feel lucky" is a little too Holly-East-Wood for me.
  15. And statements like this are why I say some folks in this thread have never been in this sort of situation, or at least trained for situations like it. Yes, you actually stand pretty decent odds if you start moving, drawing and shooting even if the other guy has his gun out first. 99.9999999999% of situations where an armed assailant attacks a legally armed citizen start out like this, where the bad guy has the drop on you. We don't all walk around carrying our sidearms in our hands just waiting, ya know. A good defensive pistol class can be eye opening. Yes, Virginia, you really can out move and out shoot the other guy -- even if he does have the drop on you -- and survive. It's called practicing how you're going to fight and the idea is to be better at it than they are.
  16. I'd just like to suspend my disbelief. By doing so, I might be able to devote time to actually dissect and digest the encounter as described and maybe learn something more form it. Again, a police report would help me with the whole disbelief part.
  17. Just be very, very cautious if the transport involves firearms and make sure that the sale has already been completed before doing this and avoid anything that even remotely looks like a straw sale or otherwise violates Federal law (i.e. crossing state lines). Don't want to see anyone here getting into trouble with the .gov over this sort of thing.

  19. Interesting to read some of the responses here. Obviously a lot of people have formed opinions on what they would have (or actually wouldn't have) done in a situation like this based off of God knows what. Magazines? Movies? Introspective belly button gazing? Wherever the knowledge and insight was gained, it wasn't gained in the real world where situations such as this are extraordinarily dynamic and do not follow any sort of script or outline. My own "game plan" -- if you want to call it that -- comes from having been shot before. Twice. Neither time was malicious, both were accidental and both are extremely long stories that I don't really care to go into. One was a freak accident the other was childhood stupidity. Both hurt like hell and one left me in a pretty precarious situation that could have gone either way, survival-wise. Perhaps one of the more defining insights that I gained from these experiences is that I'll damn sure do anything in my power to prevent being shot ever again. Pretty sure I wouldn't have tried to disarm the guy. Pretty sure someone would have ended up shot in this situation. Pretty sure it wouldn't have been me either. Of course that's all assuming this even happened to begin with, which I'm still pretty uncertain of. It's very easy to substantiate, though. Since the dude with the Derringer was arrested, there has to be an arrest report and those are public record. Let's have some more information so that I can join the ranks of those who believe. County or municipality where this happened? Date and location on which it occurred? I can handle the rest. Thanks.
  20. Don't follow me outside after this, but my bulls#*! detector is tingling a little bit.
  21. My wife doesn't like her chili as hot as I like mine, so I add a small dose of Dave's Insanity Sauce to my bowl to liven it up a bit. Still, the chili she makes is hotter than my kids prefer. They'll toughen up or go hungry.
  22. Gotcha. And I agree.
