  1. Always bring more than enough gun. If you're preparing for a fair fight, your tactics suck.
  2. Jon, some of your points are Internet folklore. Particularly the item of bigger holes. If I could put more rounds into a vital area, faster and with more accuracy, from a caliber that is fractions of an inch smaller ... Or put one insignificantly larger hole into the same area but with less speed, accuracy or potential for a quick follow up shot... Guess which one is more effective. Anyone who choses size over efficiency and effectiveness is missing the point from a tactical perspective. Sorry.
  3. Welcome to TGO. As there are so many members close to where you live, I would recommend attending one of the organized shoots sometime soon and getting your hands on as many different makes and models as you can. Gun shops are full of slightly used firearms that people bought based off of looks or preconceived ideas, only to find out that they didn't work well for them. You can avoid being that guy by trying as many beforehand as possible.
  4. You spend enough time plugging your shop, it's amazing the Vendors who are currently supporting the site aren't pissed. Here's a good link on proper lubrication of an AR-15... and it's not on CCA's facebook page. Educational Zone #49 - Cleaning & Lubricating an AR15 Rifle - Page 1
  5. It's always fun to put them together, but unfortunately they multiply like rabbits.
  6. You know, you and I are on the same page. But frankly, I'm getting to where I'm cool with it if other people want to make fun and go through life ill-equipped or harboring silly notions of how simplistic and one-dimensional self defense encounters are. Because sooner or later the zombies are really going to overrun the world and these people are going to be food. And when that happens, I'd rather be up against a bunch of ill-equipped zombies than a bunch of zombies with good weapons.
  7. Never... ever... EVER put oil in or swap the inside of your gas tube. EVER. Other than that, AR's love to run wet.
  8. I guarantee I'm getting more FPS out of my 10.5" Noveske braked AR than you're likely getting out of your handgun.
  9. Eh... I carry a handgun during my daily walk because I can't carry my carbine. This.
  10. Interesting and very subtle. I'll be waiting to see the finished product.
  11. Well, just to be fair... once we start talking about IWB or OWB carry, the Kahr family loses their luster for me and I start thinking about other weapons with higher round count rather than slim profiles. I don't even carry a 1911 much at all anymore for this reason alone.
  12. Harsh language? Frankly, if a round isn't even capable of penetrating sheet rock, I don't want it in the gun I'm trying to use to protect my family. It's my job to keep the rounds on target and not pull the trigger until the sights are covering something I want to destroy and nothing else.
  13. You know, I never started that thread to be a fan-boy thread. What you need to ask yourself is simply "Why do so many people prefer the Glock 19 when their lives depend on it?" The thread was and still remains an open question of what a person's go to gun is. That's why I titled it that. If I had wanted it to just be about Glocks I would have included that in the title. It's not my fault that so many people prefer a gun that works.
  14. Jason, I don't know... I think Glock has failed to innovate the way that they should to stay on top of the market and the Gen 4 was their poorly executed attempt at playing catch-up to the folks who have. The cold hard fact is that the Gen 3 grip doesn't fit a lot of folks. Some find it too thick, some find it too long in length of pull, some others just don't like the angle. Smith & Wesson undoubtedly has stolen some agency sales as a result of the fact that their M&P series is more adaptable ergonomically to the needs of individual shooters. Glock is still king in agency sales, but it obviously got their attention when they started losing some of their market share. I love my M&P's and honestly don't have any reason not to carry any of them instead of my Glock 19. For some reason I just don't. My M&P 40 has been treated just as badly as my 19 and has never screwed up on me. Ever. The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that the mags rattle. Silly, right? It's not like anyone but me notices... but it still bugs me. I just ordered another M&P even. And who knows... with the Apex DCAEK installed, I may enjoy it so much that the 19 will finally get a vacation.
  15. What are they doing on the other side of the wall? Are we talking interior or exterior? Obviously if you can't ascertain where friendlies are, you need to modify your tactics and not go shooting through walls. Again, YLMV.
  16. Not really an issue. The projectile will have bled off a ton of kinetic energy, if it's even still stable and traveling as a solitary unit, after passing through most common household construction materials. Besides, you're supposed to be keeping your rounds on target where they actually matter, not spraying and praying.
  17. Why not stay in the realm of reality for a while. It's a nice place to visit.
  18. It's cool. I'd rather be able to trade jabs with my fellow a-holes than feel like I needed to stop and give someone a hug every so often.
  19. You seem uptight. Go find a Redbox, rent SWAT and drift away into some pleasant daydreams. Of course, I'd be uptight too if I learned that my Gen 4 Glock was a ticking time bomb of death.
  20. Maybe you should settle down and be thankful you got one that runs. Sometimes the sun even shines on a dog's ass.
  21. That wasn't really my angle, but it is a valid point. Home invasions are increasingly involving perps wearing some form of soft body armor and can sometimes involve situations where a little more precision with your shooting is in order. I'd rather be using lighter, smaller, faster projectiles that I can direct with pinpoint accuracy. As for the suppressor... shoot a shotgun off inside of an enclosed space sometime while not wearing ear protection. Or a handgun for that matter. YLMV.
  22. If I was going to use an NFA item for home defense, it would be a short barrel AR with a suppressor.
  23. Welcome! I'm envious of anyone who can just walk outside and shoot to their heart's content. Hope you enjoy your visits here.
  24. Thanks guys. You never know when something like this might happen again.
