I guarantee I'm getting more FPS out of my 10.5" Noveske braked AR than you're likely getting out of your handgun.
-
Eh... I carry a handgun during my daily walk because I can't carry my carbine. This.
-
Interesting and very subtle. I'll be waiting to see the finished product.
-
Well, just to be fair... once we start talking about IWB or OWB carry, the Kahr family loses their luster for me and I start thinking about other weapons with higher round count rather than slim profiles. I don't even carry a 1911 much at all anymore for this reason alone.
-
Harsh language? Frankly, if a round isn't even capable of penetrating sheet rock, I don't want it in the gun I'm trying to use to protect my family. It's my job to keep the rounds on target and not pull the trigger until the sights are covering something I want to destroy and nothing else.

You know, I never started that thread to be a fan-boy thread. What you need to ask yourself is simply "Why do so many people prefer the Glock 19 when their lives depend on it?" The thread was and still remains an open question of what a person's go to gun is. That's why I titled it that. If I had wanted it to just be about Glocks I would have included that in the title. It's not my fault that so many people prefer a gun that works.

Jason, I don't know... I think Glock has failed to innovate the way that they should to stay on top of the market and the Gen 4 was their poorly executed attempt at playing catch-up to the folks who have. The cold hard fact is that the Gen 3 grip doesn't fit a lot of folks. Some find it too thick, some find it too long in length of pull, some others just don't like the angle. Smith & Wesson undoubtedly has stolen some agency sales as a result of the fact that their M&P series is more adaptable ergonomically to the needs of individual shooters. Glock is still king in agency sales, but it obviously got their attention when they started losing some of their market share. I love my M&P's and honestly don't have any reason not to carry any of them instead of my Glock 19. For some reason I just don't. My M&P 40 has been treated just as badly as my 19 and has never screwed up on me. Ever. The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that the mags rattle. Silly, right? It's not like anyone but me notices... but it still bugs me. I just ordered another M&P even. And who knows... with the Apex DCAEK installed, I may enjoy it so much that the 19 will finally get a vacation.

What are they doing on the other side of the wall? Are we talking interior or exterior? Obviously if you can't ascertain where friendlies are, you need to modify your tactics and not go shooting through walls. Again, YLMV.

Not really an issue. The projectile will have bled off a ton of kinetic energy, if it's even still stable and traveling as a solitary unit, after passing through most common household construction materials. Besides, you're supposed to be keeping your rounds on target where they actually matter, not spraying and praying.

Why not stay in the realm of reality for a while. It's a nice place to visit.
-
It's cool. I'd rather be able to trade jabs with my fellow a-holes than feel like I needed to stop and give someone a hug every so often.
-
You seem uptight. Go find a Redbox, rent SWAT and drift away into some pleasant daydreams. Of course, I'd be uptight too if I learned that my Gen 4 Glock was a ticking time bomb of death.
-
Maybe you should settle down and be thankful you got one that runs. Sometimes the sun even shines on a dog's ass.
-
That wasn't really my angle, but it is a valid point. Home invasions are increasingly involving perps wearing some form of soft body armor and can sometimes involve situations where a little more precision with your shooting is in order. I'd rather be using lighter, smaller, faster projectiles that I can direct with pinpoint accuracy. As for the suppressor... shoot a shotgun off inside of an enclosed space sometime while not wearing ear protection. Or a handgun for that matter. YLMV.
-
If I was going to use an NFA item for home defense, it would be a short barrel AR with a suppressor.

Welcome! I'm envious of anyone who can just walk outside and shoot to their heart's content. Hope you enjoy your visits here.

Thanks guys. You never know when something like this might happen again.

Bear in mind that I own quite a few purpose-built sight installation tools courtesy of MGW. That said, I understand that the Kahr sights are pressed in harder and tighter than Springfield XD sights; and those are some real sons of bishes to get out. I had no problems getting it back on target quickly. The PM9 isn't exactly the gun I'd want to have to do rapid sharp shooting with, and it's really meant for those up close and personal social encounters. In cases like that, you'd have to be waving your arms around like a palsied baboon in order to not be able to keep your shots center of mass anyway.
-
That is the one thing my PM9 lacks that I really wish it had. However it's just a matter of $140 (ouch) and sending the slide off to Kahr to have them install the XS Big Dot sights. I'm very tempted and have been thusly tempted since I bought the gun. However I'd hate to be without it for a week or two now at this point in the game.

Wow, the Dept of Safety is FAST

That's absolutely unheard of. Congrats! -
It depends on the pants you're wearing and the holster you're using. I wear 5.11 Tactical khakis a lot, even for work, just because they are roomy and comfortable and hold up to a lot of abuse. The large slash pockets on the hip make it really easy to carry the PM9 in a wallet-style leather pocket holster. When I do this, it absolutely disappears and is not uncomfortable in the least when I am sitting. I have no problems concealing it in a front pocket in either my 5.11 khakis, Carhartt dungarees or jeans. If your pants have deep enough pockets, you'll have no problems. The only time I have issues is with certain khakis -- like Dockers -- that have small wimpy little metrosexual pockets.

I didn't even bother looking to see if they had the PM40. For me I wanted something that I can shoot a lot of, affordably and comfortably. I've got two .40SW handguns nowadays and just don't really shoot them a whole lot despite the fact that I do have a fondness for that cartridge.

I have held off on posting about this simply because I wanted time to make sure it was running right before I posted and had someone come along behind me and tell me how bad it was going to perform. Not that this would ever happen on TGO mind you. A few weekends ago I stopped by The Outpost Armory and got a good deal on a new, current generation Kahr PM9. Thanksgiving weekend I took it out to CHMR (Owl Hollow) and ran the snot out of it using a variety of different 9mm cartridges and never had so much as a single problem. I did however spend a few evenings doing nothing but cycling the slide while watching TV, which loosened the slide perceptibly the more I did it. This may have helped, and was prescribed on a few other gun forums. To say that I am pleased with the PM9 would be an understatement. It is small, light weight, thin and disappears into the pocket in an A-Holster or a wallet holster. I honestly prefer the way it "prints" in pocket as opposed to a J-Frame's cylinder, as it looks more like a PDA or a phone or any number of other common electronics. Tight 1" - 2" groups both two handed and one handed at 15 feet were no problem whatsoever. It's far more accurate than a "get off me" gun needs to be. My wife likes it enough that she wants one now too. Now for the obligatory gun porn...

The part that I find most worrisome is the fact that the people who are having problems are the people who run their guns the hardest. Someone who only shoots a hundred rounds or so every two months appears to be less likely to have the problems that the guys who run them hard are having. That's not what I want to see from a Glock. But again it appears that Glock is stepping up to fix the issues. The Glock 23s had some problems initially too. This isn't exactly unheard of with Glock, it's just sad that it happened to the venerable 19. Those are his holsters, actually. Seraph owns Secret City Weaponeers and makes holsters. He's in the process of setting up as a Vendor here on TGO.

I just read over on M4C that Glock is supposedly releasing a revised recoil spring assembly that "fixes" the problems people are having. I also saw where several folks make an adapter shim that lets you run a Gen 3 guide-rod / spring in your Gen 4 Glock 19. Somehow with Gen 4, Glock truly did find a way to f'k up what was previously a supremely reliable weapon.
