I have zero delusions about this. In a self-defense shooting you have a very good chance of getting hurt yourself as well by acting. But there are worse fates.

As I've said before, and has been pounded into my head by people smarter and better at this than me, a moving target is harder to hit than the guy standing there doing nothing. Introducing movement screws up the other guy's OODA Loop and gives you precious seconds that might allow you to draw your gun and bring not only equilibrium to the situation but potentially sway it into your favor. You seem to be well educated but lacking in any common sense, which is fairly common of many of the folks I've met from European countries so I don't fault you for it as much as I fault your environment and up-bringing. I realize full well that it's too late to change you, so I honestly think that you should to wear a sign identifying you as an idiot so as to spare other people the frustration of having to figure this out on their own. Well this is some introduction! You must be feeling MIGHTY special! Well alright, SPECIAL GUY... let's hear something! (Just making him feel at home. )

As was stated previously in the thread, M&P rear sights are not pressed in very tightly. Loosen the set screw using a hex wrench and then ever so slightly tap the sight to one direction or another using an item that won't mar or damage the finish on the gun. Then re-tighten the sight. Honestly I do agree with Mike that it most likely is not the sights on the gun based on your description of the problem. HOWEVER... my wife has an M&P 9 "JG" (pink grips, cancer ribbon, etc.) that has an upgraded sight package and it shoots about 4" low center at 10ft every time you pull the trigger. It's not her, it's the gun. Several of us have shot it and it does the exact same every single time. Consequently I will be sending it back to Smith & Wesson to have them remedy the situation. So, there's a chance it might not be you but the gun as well, however I'd have several other people shoot it first -- preferably people who are familiar with and good shots with the M&P -- before making adjustments to the gun that might be just band aiding a problem you're having with manipulating the trigger. Really? Those guys are usually pretty smart. They usually don't do it as a day job either. Of course the last guy that I worked for that had his master's in IT was perfectly suited for his job of attending meetings all the time. As Smith said, you can polish them and end up with a stainless gun. However the reason that S&W doesn't do them in stainless is because they are meant to be service pistols and not gaudy accouterments. I've never understood the flashy pistol craze, although I did once have an XD treated with Robar's NP3 just to see if I liked it. It was slicker than snot and a little too shiny for carry use, IMO. I do like a dull matte silver, though. Probably because they don't reflect light so badly.

Ah. I've not quite been in that situation but I've been in a dating relationship years and years ago where she was apparently still getting reamed on certain days of the week by an ex of hers. You don't want to be in that situation. You never know what they're bringing back to the bedroom, or whether some pissed-off jealous other boyfriend is going to show up to beat your ass or worse.
