  1. I'll be using this thread to journal my midlength AR-15 carbine build. Components: CMMG lower (had this lingering around) Bravo Company Machine (BCM) BFH 16" Mid Length Upper Receiver Group Daniel Defense LITE 12" Handguard BCM auto bolt carrier group BCM Gunfighter charging handle, MOD4 (Medium) latch BCM milspec buffer extension tube G&R Tactical trail-mix lower parts kit Battle Comp 1.0 black oxide muzzle brake Magpul ACS black milspec stock Magpul MIAD black pistol grip Magpul AFG angled foregrip -- Joe's favorite Magpul backup iron sights (front and rear) Vickers Tactical 2-pt sling MI HD quick detach swivels American Defense Mfg (ADM) Recon 30mm optic mount EOTech OPMOD 1-MOA twin-dot RDS Your mom Update 2011-01-22: I have assembled the carbine save for the optics. I have also decided to standardize on the same optic that I am using on my short barrel rifle, so I am going to skip using the Trijicon TR22 and instead use the EOTech OPMOD red dot sight. If at some point I decide to use a magnifier, it will be easy enough to implement a flip to the side magnifier behind it. Also, I am adding two photos taken this morning.
  2. Glad to hear that this review has been helpful to some of you and harmful to your wallets.
  3. Honestly, the easiest way to do this is to pick up one of the self-study books and then check out HamTestOnlineâ„¢ - Ham Radio Exam Courses for study aid if you need it. The first test is very, very easy to pass.
  4. I'm not sure why Jeff got dragged into this, but here's the situation: Member's subscription expired on Jan 6th. He claimed he paid on Jan 20th a year ago, therefore should have fourteen more days. I checked in Paypal and verified that his memory of the circumstances were incorrect.
  5. Shoot me a PM with your concerns and I'll look into it.
  6. Congrats. I can't imagine my wife not shooting with me.
  7. The first post was a train-wreck, so I've edited it to remove the attempted joke. I'm also sending the OP a copy of this handy reference guide...
  8. Snowed here off and on all morning but never enough to cover the roads again. They say we might have more this weekend.

  10. Don't worry... they aren't going anywhere. Strick's tip should work.
  11. Good to see you here.
  12. Mexico = 3rd World Sh#thole with a few nice beaches.
  13. Interesting. I never would have guessed that so many people still used these.
  14. I had to fight a knee-jerk reaction to close this since I really don't want people bashing each other on the basis of race, religion, creed, etc. But I've done a lot of studying lately on Islam, the Crusades, etc. and honestly if this offends any of our moderate Muslim friends, I can actually say I've read the Koran and can show them where being a moderate Muslim is fairly heretical. Further, this shouldn't offend anyway since they shouldn't be eating pork if they are observing the letter of the law. So... oink oink. This is no worse than a preschool saying it's the safest around because there aren't any Catholic priests on staff. Maybe I'm off base, but I'm tired of people being so touchy feely about a quasi-religion/government belief system that commands no tolerance for anyone else. You get what you give.
  15. Surprisingly there is some sound information on that card, which tells me that someone with a clue was involved in producing it. Sadly they advise that as a last resort you should "throw items" at the shooter. Happily I carry approximately 30 such items at any given time, each of them weighing 180 grains.
  16. I've seen squirrels leave tracks like that in our snow as they haul ass, bounding across the yard.
  17. Yup. I sent an XD9 off to them once for NP3. Slicker than goose ****. VERY nice, but very slick. Wouldn't be a big deal on a long gun, though.
  18. I'd forgotten about the Kaiser. It'll be interesting to hear your opinions on it.
  19. NP3 is nickel.
  20. I'm guessing you wrote this before you read my follow-up post explaining why I feel the way that I do about the XD?
  21. Might I suggest investing in some MGW sight tools for the various guns you'll be working on? When I was refinishing guns with Cerakote and Moly Resin, I had an assortment of MGW sight tools for the most common ones: Glock, Sig, HK, M&P, 1911, XD... etc. They're about $100-120 a pop but well worth it considering how easy it makes the job. I still held on to a few for the models that I still own.
  22. Basic theory: When gun powder ignites and burns, it becomes a pressurized gas. The pressurized gas has similar properties as a pressurized liquid, and is what propels the bullet down the barrel. Take syringe full of water, remove the needle and cap the end with your finger. Press the plunger down 5mm. Now press it down 10mm. Notice how the pressure increases? Basic physics. The same thing happens the further you seat a bullet into a casing w/o reducing the amount of powder in the charge. If you keep the charge the same # of grains but keep setting the bullet further and further back into the case, sooner or later the pressure upon ignition will be far greater than what the firearm can handle and you will end up blowing it to pieces. That's why you don't just arbitrarily choose how far to set the bullet into the casing. Always, always, always consult reloading manuals. The stuff we play with as reloaders is more than capable of ruining your day if its done wrong.
  23. As Smith pointed out, this claim really doesn't have much merit. Closing this thread.
