MCTS Intro to Competitive Shooting / TGO meet and greet
TGO David replied to HOGNUT's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
You guys have fun. I'm spending the day inside with my wife where it's warm. Somehow I got pre-comitted to be at this thing and all sorts of other promises were made by the OP that I never agreed to, so I've been on the fence about this ever since. Maybe next time they'll go through the proper channels and we can do it up right as an official TGO event. Hopefully no one else went off half-cocked at the event itself. -
I'd post a witty reply, but I'm in tears right now...

I'm not going to copy and paste the contents of this here, but you all really need to read it. The Myth of Energy Transfer

I can see that my remarks have gotten to you for some reason, on a level entirely different than they have gotten to anyone else in this thread. I wonder what vested interest you might have in this whole issue. As for us Smyrnaites being jealous of anyone in Williamson, suffice it to say that I don't measure my dick by the number of zeros on my property taxes and never have found myself facing an insatiable need to out-spend someone else. But you know, I'd welcome the opportunity to discuss your perceptions of me in person sometime. For some reason, you never seem to be at the same shoots as me. Maybe it's because you're busy working a gun counter those days.

Does the Range Officer model scream at you when you do something wrong?

This is not medical advice and I didn't stay at a HI Express last night, so take it for what it's meant to be: A bit of encouragement. My wife, an RN, said that she had a friend who had a similar situation and the tumor ended up being benign. We were in a bit of a rush when I read your story to her last night but she said that it's not uncommon for this to happen and for it to be not malignant. Think positive! Doctor's don't have the last word in situations where prayer is involved.

That's ok... they aren't going to evict you for it. Besides, you're probably not the target customer for a five-star doggy day spa either, but Williamson has those too.

It wasn't an insult. It's the truth. If that bothers you, you might need to evaluate whether you fall into that demographic. And then you need to stop being so bothered by other people's opinions. Sack up.

Williamson County has never exactly been deficient on people with more money than common sense and as has been pointed out already, FGS has a good location in Williamson County and understands their market. These factors all combine to being what is obviously a successful gun shop, if you base success solely on the revenue it generates for the ownership. These statements shouldn't offend anyone. They are just simply the way things are. The same can be said for the vast majority of other boutique businesses in Williamson.

That has nothing to do with anything.

It's a shame there aren't other gun shops open later... or 7 days a week... in the Nashville area.

Thank you for the kind words. However, I absolutely must point out that the role I play here is small in comparison to the mountain of information presented each and every day by the members. Me? I'm just the custodian. I push the broom and keep the lights on.

Learned my Lesson on Cheap Safes.

And sadly are only a step above a wet cardboard box for keeping thieves out and your firearm safe from a house fire for very long. -
I've considered one. I also have an NRA member decal on the back glass of my truck at the moment. I think there is a pretty big disconnect between the idea that something might happen because of a sticker or license plate, and the odds of something actually happening because of the same. To each their own I guess.

Eh, the only time I've told someone that their choice of sidearm might not be the most prudent, it was out of genuine concern for their well being should they ever need to rely on that firearm in a moment of extreme duress. I've tried to coach people to spend a little more for a much better weapon, just as I've coached people to spend a little less. It's not my job description to tell people what to buy. However I do feel a certain moral compulsion to speak up when they're making a really bad choice that might come back to haunt them. If that makes me a snob, so be it.

Is it wrong that I got a little giddy there? God bless the USMC.

SON OF A ... I see that Chance beat me to it. It's nice to see great minds thinking alike.

In 1991 I was told to keep my hair presentable. Short, neat, above the ears. The SSGT warned me not to show up with my hair high and tight or shaved because that would just draw unwanted attention from the Instructors and piss off the barbers. At which point they would find new ways to make me miserable. You also don't want to hop off of the bus wearing Marines anything. Including the spiffy gray PT shirt that your recruiter may or may not have given you. On second thought... scratch all of that.

Guys, Tom Givens reputation as a respected member of the training community is well established. While I own a Bersa myself and have put untold hundreds of rounds through it over the past 18 years or so without incident, I'm sure that his shop's restrictions against using them in HCP classes stem from experiences they have had and a desire to keep the classes moving quickly and everyone out the door safely and in good time. RangeMaster is not the first organization to restrict what make/model weapon can be used in a class that they are conducting. While I do not necessarily agree with their assessment of the Bersa based on my own experiences, I do respect their prerogative to do what they feel is best for their class and their students. Especially given that they are willing to provide a handgun and ammo to a student in the event that they walk in with one of the handguns that they'd prefer not be used. I see both sides of this issue. The beauty of the free market is that a customer can either elect to abide by RangeMaster's restrictions, or go somewhere else. Clearly Tom doesn't have a problem with the latter being chosen and likewise respects your prerogative to do so. Kind of a non-issue really.

First thought? Second thought? I like where their head's at from an engineering standpoint. Low bore axis should make it a sweet shooter.

Welcome to the funny farm.

Buford, is that you?
