  1. Unfortunately I will not be able to make it. July is going to be very busy month for me due to family obligations, but I hope you guys have a great time and a great turnout.
  2. FWIW, I also have another Yaesu FT-7900R radio (2m/70cm) less than 6mos old that I might be willing to sell soon. I am probably going to put a different radio in my truck soon and have to go with something smaller, and sadly more expensive, because of space limitations. The 7900R is a great radio. PM me if you're interested. I'll get around to listing it for sale officially sooner or later.
  3. Hand-held is fine if you're in an area with good repeater coverage, but I would honestly recommend a 12-volt mobile (vehicle mount) radio as my first and only radio if I could have just one. Reasons: 1. Higher power output 2. Better reception / transmission courtesy of more antenna options 3. Typically easier to use courtesy of larger surface for operating controls 4. More versatile since you can mount it in a vehicle, operate it from a 120Vac to 12Vdc power supply, or operate completely off the grid with 12Vdc battery supply, possibly served from solar power. Just my $0.02 worth on the matter as someone who's been playing with amateur radio (General Class) for about a year now. As for where to buy, I have used and can recommend both Gigaparts.com and Ham Radio Outlet.
  4. I haven't been able to work on it much today. I did ask the hosting company to investigate; it seems faster to me right now. Really fast, actually.
  5. This is a pretty vague question. That's probably why you don't have any replies yet.
  6. We've maxed out our VPS options with the current hosting company, but it's still a VPS competing for resources against whomever else is on the physical host. I'll either move us to a VMware based VPS or to a dedicated server entirely when we make the next move.
  7. It really doesn't work that way. The conversion has to be done in sequence and with the data quiesced.
  8. I've been doing hot rod cars since way before I was of age to own firearms. Past rides include an SRT8 300C, a 2003 Mach1, several Mustang GTs and other assorted toys.
  9. Which is one of the reasons why Invision Power Board is attractive to me. Their development staff truly seems to care.
  10. No it's related to the new editor regardless of which browser is being used.
  11. Unfortunately not without losing several days worth of posts.
  12. Hey gang... As you may have read in my post about the issues we've been experiencing since upgrading to vBulletin 4.1.4 and in keeping with my general distaste for vBulletin 4.x as a whole, I am thinking very seriously about converting the TGO forums over to a different software suite. I have waffled back and forth about this for the past year (at least) but recently the guys over at Invision Power have released a preview of the upcoming next generation Invision Power Board and, frankly, it has blown me away. I feel it is a much more polished, leaner, cleaner forum software than vBulletin and reports from others who have swapped to IPB in the past suggest it runs much faster than vBulletin 4.x does. I'd love your input on this since a swap of the magnitude would be a pretty big undertaking. TGO's forum database is HUGE and converting to new software would require at least a day's worth of downtime and would have a little bit of a learning curve for all of us. You can see the IPB preview site here: IPS Community Forum Just take a look around as a guest, or sign up for an account and use their test forum to try out the software if you feel like doing that. Then let me know what you think about it in this thread. Meanwhile, I'll be trying to squash bugs with vBulletin. Thanks!
  13. I believe the editor has a lot to do with it, to be honest. It has a much larger "footprint" in terms of calls back to the database in order to do the "auto-save" feature and things like that.
  14. I'm turning off a lot of the add-on features that I've installed over the months to see if maybe one of them is causing the excessive page load times due to an incompatibility with the current vBulletin software. Keeping my fingers crossed.
  15. No, but I'd like to hear how you like that after a few weeks. I've been tempted to switch.
  16. Thanks. These problems cause everyone a lot of frustration and I'm not immune to it either. I hate slow page loads, especially if they are on this forum since I usually can do something about it. Usually.
  17. I am working on getting our page load times back down to where they belong. Factors involved at the moment: vBulletin 4.1.4 probably buggy; they are talking about version 4.1.5 soon to "correct" things Our forum database is close to one gigabyte in size. TGO's data is huge. Ask anyone what 1GB of text looks like. I could hardly believe we have that much stored. We may be sharing resources with others on our host and may need to upgrade servers again. I'll keep an eye on this as it's the trickiest. The bottom line is that things are not running as smoothly as I'd like, post upgrade. This is in addition to the quirks that the new editor has brought in respect to posting images and such. Further, I remain unimpressed with vBulletin software and am still considering all options, up to and including moving to another software package. Your patience is appreciated.
  18. Can anyone here recommend a good, reputable roofing company in the greater Nashville area that does quality work and cleans up after themselves when they are done? I have pulled a list of possible candidates from the BBB (Better Business Bureau) web site but it's really taking a shot in the dark since I don't know anyone who has dealt with any of them firsthand. Some roofing companies work like gypsies, moving from area to area following storms. I don't want to deal with someone like that. Thanks in advance!
  19. Fair enough. My time here the past week has been pretty limited but I do have access now at work on my lunch break, so I am able to get online and resolve some things like this when I'm not already committed to other activities. I'll try my best to get back on here today and see what's going on. Meanwhile I've opened a support incident with vBulletin to see if they can offer any insight.
  20. Guys, having small problems like this after an upgrade is not unusual. We always work through them and the vendor always resolves them. Be patient. As for the image posting problem, what I am reading over on vBulletin's support forum is that it is limited primarily to photos hosted with Photobucket.com and that it is hit or miss. The authors suggest that people are using the wrong code when they post pictures, and are including HTML sequences that the editor is designed to block to protect against malicious code being embedded in forum posts. I'll try to do some more digging today when I have a break at around lunchtime and see what I can figure out. Just bear with me and, again, be patient. Progress comes with growing pains sometimes. Thanks.
  21. Welcome to Tennessee and to TGO.
  22. Coolest product, ever.
  23. I'll look into it but it will be later tonight before I will have full access to the forum. Sorry.
  24. TGO actually has a very friendly member base. Welcome.
