  1. Good reminder, sad story.
  2. Meh.
  3. No. I had a 2010 FJ Cruiser Trail Teams and it was nice, but the 4Runner Trail Teams is even better. Four full size doors that swing the correct direction when you open them, and more cargo capacity. 4Runner - 2011 Performance & Specifications They're calling it the "Trail" on Toyota's site. Last year's model had the Trail Teams logo on it like the FJ did; not sure if they have abandoned that or what.
  4. Wow... I've been away from the computer for the past three days and this thread is still going strong. Nice! If you set aside practical notions, this topic really boils down to a matter of personal convictions much the same as a person's choice in religion, choice in political party or even the choice to carry a firearm for their protection in the first place. And while we may occasionally see defectors from one side of the argument to the other, having been persuaded either by a really convincing argument or just a personal epiphany, the majority of what will be accomplished in this threads is just "churn". I'm not saying these threads are bad or should be avoided, I'm just making the observation that a lot of energy is being expended and not a whole lot of motion is resulting from it. If you've ever watched a riverboat hold a line of barges against the current, you've got the same mental picture I do when I read this thread. LOTS of churn, lots of noise... can't really tell if it's moving anywhere, but it's really damn impressive to watch. Personally I'm against the "tactics" of open carry but I support everyone else's right to do it so long as they aren't causing me any harm. Where we have a problem is when folks do it irresponsibly or to make a political statement and end up causing the whole Pro Carry movement to lose ground. Jackasses like Leonard Embody come to mind. So I'd leave you all with this: If you choose to open carry, do it for the right reason. Making a statement really should be so far down the list behind a bunch of really good reasons that it doesn't even enter into the equation. If it's not, then maybe you should re-evaluate not only why you're open carrying but also why you're carrying a gun in the first place.
  5. You guys better go ahead and throw a date out there. I got word today that we're about to embark on another big consolidation project at work that is going to eat up pretty much the second half of October, including weekends. If you pick a day that I can attend, I'll be there.
  6. Um, I never called you a pretentious butthole but if you want to lump yourself into that category I'm not going to talk you off the ledge. That's your call. You know, if the shoe fits and all that. As for my maturity level -- whatever. And I'm still trying to figure out how you figure me founding this forum and running this forum somehow equates into a situation where I'm supposed to deserve something. But again -- whatever.
  7. It's just fun? That's my answer.
  8. Some threads here can also sometimes be full of pretentious buttholes who like to accuse everyone else of being closed minded. Make sure you don't fall into THAT category either. As for the thread getting locked, I really hope not. In fact I'd like to see it stay open just to disprove your theory that your fellow members are lacking in the fortitude and maturity to handle a thread like this without devolving into either buttholedom or closed mindedness. Sincerely, The guy who gets tired of whiners making brash generalizations as a last resort when they can no longer intelligently argue their side of an issue.
  9. It always makes me smile when a family can keep their chin up and still laugh in the middle of a loss. Good for them.
  10. Folks... I see a lot of moderating going on in this thread from folks who aren't moderators. If the real moderators don't see a problem with the way the thread is going and you guys do, shoot someone a PM or use the Report this post button to give us a heads up. Anything else just ads further noise to the thread. As for the subject at hand, if the OP does not want input from the crowd, he should not post on a forum. The comments being made may not be what he wanted, but they ARE topical. It's not like he posted about open carry and the thread suddenly got turned into a discussion about puppies and ice cream. Thanks.
  11. Significant delays caused tonight by the Tactical Republic ads. I have removed the ads from the site temporarily until they get it sorted out.
  12. I'd just be glad that folks have read your thread and are wanting to offer suggestions. TGO isn't exactly a car forum.
  13. Skip the H3. Take your wife to look at a 2011-12 Toyota 4Runner Trail Teams edition.
  14. Got a call from a neighbor about this yesterday while out canoeing. Did not give me a warm fuzzy. Like you've said to me before, Smyrna usually does a really good (odd, creepy) job of keeping this stuff out of the news. Was kind of surprised to hear the story break, actually.
  15. Um... ok... Can we get back to disliking Obama for more practical reasons now?
  16. Got patted down at the Titans vs. Bears pre-season game earlier this year. Could have easily taken a full sized firearm in no better than they searched me. It's a token gesture at best. Obviously I was unarmed, following the letter of the law, but you get the point.
  17. Nice looking blade!
  18. First thing that came to mind... "I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. The sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?” Just sayin'
  19. Been putting some plans to paper today as a matter of fact. It's probably going to be mid October before I can personally attend anything because of my work schedule for the next few weeks, though. I was thinking like October 17th or 24th.
  20. I <3 Salisbury Steak
  21. It'll be nice.
  22. I made some minor tweaks to the server today in an effort to remove anything that might be slowing down page loads on the database side. So far it doesn't seem any faster than it ever was, but it also doesn't seem slow at all. Not sure that what I did helped any but it certainly didn't hurt.
  23. A worthwhile contribution to the thread!
  24. There is no compelling urgency to transfer items into a trust unless you want them there.
