  1. Of course, man. Hits mighty close to home.
  2. Brian, you're a big enough guy and have done enough physical labor in your life (wrenching on your cars, firefighting, etc.) that you're not going to have to worry about recoil on anything but the most potent of handgun calibers. Trust me on this. I'd skip the .380 unless physical size is a limiting factor on how you intend to carry it (i.e. in your back pocket) and go with either a sub-compact 9mm or a .38spl revolver. You're welcome to shoot anything I have at the range sometime, but I imagine you'll end up buying before we could get together. FWIW, I have a Bersa .380 and while there is nothing particularly wrong with it, there is nothing particularly right about it either IMO. It's heavy and too large for the round it carries, and it suffers from less than stellar magazine capacity. There are too many other handguns of the same general size that carry more rounds and more potent rounds for me to use it as anything other than a subject of derision. I'd skip it and look at the LCP or better yet the LC9 if you like Ruger's sub-compact size and shape.
  3. Just a reminder, folks... October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Save those Ta-Tas!
  4. I have met with some like-minded individuals that I work with and my wife and I have our cadre of close friends and associates that we can turn to if the SHTF. Have I met up with anyone from TGO in that respect? Yes/no. See previous. How about the OP? OhShoot, have you?
  5. We were in the area last night and had a hell of a time getting through traffic because of the kick-ass police presence immediately following.
  6. Neither of those things are the case. They switched us to the upgraded VPS exactly when they said they did; I participated. Their internal DNS would have nothing to do with us anyway. I've noticed a few moments this morning where Tactical Republic's ads have stuttered and slowed a page load but no other problems. The bottom line, though, is that other than having them investigate and possibly fine-tune things, I am not able to ramp up the level of our hosting service any further at this time regardless of what reports I get that it's slow at 10pm or whatever. At this point I am now subsidizing the additional expense of hosting and, while I do not mind it, we are the limit of what I am willing and able to throw into the pot. And on a different but related note... I'd like to shamelessly remind everyone that this is why the Supporting Vendor program is so important to TGO. The cost to our vendors is roughly $35 a month. Our hosting is roughly $300 a month now, plus software maintenance fees, upgrade costs, etc. Recently several people have tried to extract free / guerilla advertising from TGO by promoting themselves without becoming a legitimate Vendor partner. $35/mo for advertising is CHEAP in the world of doing business. If a business or individual trying to start a business cannot afford cheap advertising straight to the people who they are trying to sell to, I don't know how long they can expect to be in business. Just keep that in mind the next time someone tries to use TGO for free promotion, or tries to promote a gunsmith, gun shop, etc. who has openly made it known that they are willing to use TGO for free but have no intention of supporting the community. When they do that, they're essentially saying that they don't care what it costs us to keep the lights on for you or keep pages loading fast for you. Food for thought. Personally, I prefer to do business with folks that support the site. I absolutely refuse to give my money to anyone who is willing to screw TGO for their personal gain.
  7. I'm sure he can post a picture of a dude if you ask nicely?
  8. This is a great opportunity and for most folks would be a once in a lifetime. Hopefully some TGO members will take advantage of it.
  9. Brian, glad to see you over here. I'd second the comment made earlier about visiting a range that rents various handguns and give a few a spin. Guns and Leather in Greenbrier would be my recommendation based on proximity to your home base. That being said, for discrete pocket carry my two Go-To firearms of choice are my Smith & Wesson J-Frame revolver (Model 442) and my Kahr PM9 which is a small 9mm semi-automatic. I would feel comfortable with either of these as my "going out to get a gallon of milk" companion. That said, if I were routinely in areas of questionable repute, I would probably step up toward a compact full-size 9mm of some sort just to increase capacity and ease of reloading. With the right holster, you can conceal damn near anything and do so comfortably.
  10. FWIW, both the hosting provider's technicians and I have been monitoring the server since about 8pm. No signs whatsoever that the server is constrained for resources. In fact the load averages are staying below 0.90 across the board, frequently dipping lower than 0.50.
  11. No, TGO never touches any of Akamai's network.
  12. It's not the State's decision, it is a Federal matter. And yes, a TN FFL may receive a firearm shipped from an individual.
  13. Well, I've spent all the money I'm going to spend on this problem at the moment. I'll ask the hosting company to investigate further since you guys claim it's happening religiously at 10pm but other than that, we're all going to have to just suck it up and deal with the slower page loads during that hour or two window until someone wants to host the site on a hot-rod server for less than $300 per month. Closing thread.
  14. Doubt I'll get a chance to stray very far from home for the next few weeks. Work's cranking up another big project and it's keeping me anchored right here.
  15. The plateau area (Cookeville) isn't bad at all. I've got several friends who graduated from TTU and they all really seem to have enjoyed their time there.
  16. Welcome to TGO.
  17. You know, Strick... there's a monthly photo contest on one of the Ford Raptor forums and this month's theme is "Haunted Raptor". I thought of you the other day and wondered what you could come up with. Problem is, I'm not sure I could get to you soon enough to pull it off before the contest ends.

Speak into the other end. The one without the wire hanging off of it.
  19. This evening I placed a server upgrade order with our hosting company based on their recommendations. At approximately 9pm CST they completed the upgrade for us, so I am closing this thread. If it becomes necessary to discuss issues with the newly upgraded server, we can start a new thread.
  20. Welcome to TGO! You've embarked on what I hope will be a lifelong, life changing, much enjoyed journey.
  21. Looks good!
  22. I'm having impure thoughts about that Lee Enfield.
  23. Thanks guys. The Site Supporter membership you all have is more than enough from all of you, but I really appreciate the willingness to help.
  24. Nice! I have the M&P 45 Mid-size and love it. Great shooting gun. You can.
  25. Honestly I'm to the point where if I am going to enjoy this series I'm going to have to start rooting for the Walkers. The survivors suck and I want all of them to die for their lack of noise discipline, lack of survival skills, lack of common sense and general stupidity concerning things like weapon / ammo retention, picking GOOD vehicles, etc. I don't think I've yelled at the screen this much since Obama's last State of The Union address.
