TGO has not been hacked. See the announcements forum. This is a DNS hijacking attempt, nothing more. Keep calm and carry on.

Don't shoot that bad guy too many times
TGO David replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Well they are a publicly traded company. If enough of their shareholders marched into an annual stockholder's meeting and demanded it, they would pretty much have to listen to the majority of ownership. -
I thought I'd dredge this one up from the files and beat the dead horse a little more.... Today I went to ship an item that one of the TGO members had purchased from me. The item was too big to fit into one Medium Flat Rate box by just a hair, so I shoved two boxes together to extend it by about 3-inches, taped them together and then calculated my postage based off of weight, dimensions and destination ZIP code which came out to be more than the flat rate box would have required would one of them had worked. Again, I was paying more than the flat rate box required. The doorbell rang this morning and I found my postal carrier standing there with the box in her hands and a pissed look on her face. Her: "This won't work. These are two medium flat rate boxes taped together!" Me: "Yes and that's more than one box's worth of postage calculated off of weight and dimensions. What's the problem?" She stared at the postage label for a few seconds as if trying to wrap her brain around it and then blurted out "Well it just won't work." Me: "Why the hell not? It's the correct postage I just used your boxes and improvised." Her: "That's why it won't work. They are flat rate boxes." Me: "You do realize that I can just take that, wrap it in brown paper, slap the same postage on it and it will ship just fine... right?" Her: "Well... this won't work." {sigh} Me: "Whatever. You can pick it up tomorrow with brown paper wrapped around it then. This is why you guys are going out of business you know." She just stomped off at that point and dismissed me with a wave. I f'king hate our government's agencies sometimes.

He's referencing the Bernie Goetz case. This was a big news story when I was growing up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernhard_Goetz Hit the link and read more. -
I always had a lot of fun when I was doing this. A media blasting cabinet is the only way to go as far as I'm concerned. If you do enough of them, you're going to want to build a purpose-built oven for it as well. I never got quite that far but was almost to the point of building one. Had I needed to do any shotgun or rifle barrels, I most certainly would have. You should give Norrell's Moly Resin a try sometime too.

This isn't an order thread or an "I'll take one in black if you make them" thread... it's simply clearing out what we already had on hand. Sorry.

Huh???

What Mike said is true. New Content is context sensitive.

It's working.

Wow... well that was fast. The only hats left now are the pink hats for the ladies.
-
While cleaning out the closets I found a stash of TGO hats that I didn't know we still had. I have added these to the TGO store (link here) and once they sell out they are likely gone forever. Quantities are extremely limited. Most I only have ONE on hand. The ladies are in luck as I've got several pink hats still, but the guys better act fast. Enjoy!

Don't shoot that bad guy too many times
TGO David replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I would not recommend a "mag dump" on the attacker unless he just won't go down. I would recommend understanding the difference between shooting enough to stop the threat and shooting gratuitously. Once the threat is gone, stop pulling the trigger. There's an old joke out there that I've read on the Internet to the effect that a guy was asked why he shot the bad dude eight times. His answer was because seven wasn't enough and nine would have been too many. Flippant, yes. Morbid, perhaps. But it actually contains a grain of truth. Shoot until the threat is no longer a threat. No more. -
Hmmm. Neither are any of the people who have been shot by them, I suspect.

Threads like this bother me because I know that somewhere, someone will read it and take it to heart that you should shoot once and then hope the bad guy has given up the fight. That sort of thinking when actions should be autonomous gets the good guy hurt because he hesitates. Almost every defensive handgun class out there teaches you to utilize "nonstandard response" (i.e. shooting more than once, but only as many times as it took to stop the fight) when defending yourself. I've completely ingrained into muscle memory quick repetitive strings of 2-3 shots each and can guaran-damn-tee you that it's exactly how I would respond if, God forbid, I were ever put in the position to use deadly force for my protection or that of my family. Either we're not hearing the whole story or this guy needed a better attorney and needed better (or any) subject matter experts testifying on his behalf regarding the use of nonstandard response. So was John Harris in agreement with the charges or was he disgusted with the court's ruling? -
Nashville Armory's management needs to get back together with me on their Vendor participation here...

I'm disinclined to do this simply because it's a rather inconsequential feature that carries a significant hit in terms of page load times and load placed on the server. I know it seems absurd, but sorting something as trivial as users online by user-name requires additional queries that slow things down. Sorry. Just do a <CTRL+F> or <CMD-F> (for the Mac geeks) and search for a username if you're trying to find someone.

Hey... when I make a mistake, I'll fix it and own up to it. This one was a mistake.

Update 4/14/12 After some discussions with a few members here, and after reviewing support conversations between Tapatalk and other IPB administrators, I have decided to re-enable the Tapatalk plug-in for TGO. I have also installed the latest version of the Tapatalk software on the forums. One key thing to note is that you will still be re-directed to the IPB mobile site when you access the Classifieds. There presently does not seem to be a way around this, but we will continue working with the developers to see if something better can be provided in the future. Thanks to all of you who provided feedback on the issue.

I'll merge the threads.

Search results showing keyword "shield" found all of the threads. You guys must be searching something else.

Like I said, I knew this would not be popular with everyone or please everyone, but it's the way forward. The rough edges that you are dealing with now will go away and IPB is (and has been for a while) working on their on iPhone app so we'll take a look at that too. Tapatalk was a carry-over from our days of running vBulletin. It wasn't the greatest there and it wasn't the greatest here either. By reducing the number of non-IPB components in our "ecosystem" we can better control the presentation of the forum to all devices. As someone who has lived in IT yourself, I think you probably understand the why-for's of doing this.

Looking into it. Off the cuff it looks like everything is set right; not sure really what the problem is here but give me a day or two to sort it out.
-
I'll send you an email shortly. Thanks.

Yep... sorry. Knew this wasn't going to be a popular move with everyone but it is what it is.
