1.
All true. Wally's Ruger 10/22 receivers are assembled from recycled sardine cans in Taiwan, barrels are formed from ground bamboo impregnated with epoxy and unsmelted iron ore in Malaysia, all assembled by current descendents of Nazi war criminals in Argentina. And all the ammo sold there is actually rebranded Chinese manufacture. Even the Russian stuff. - OS
It really does none of us any good to propagate rumors like this. You and I both know that's all a bunch of crap. Except for the Nazi war criminals part. That's true.
2. You know, there comes a point when I get tired of people tattling, especially when the tattlers have done the exact same things they're tattling about. Sooner or later I'm going to have to start issuing people Whiffle Ball bats and have them slug it out in TGO's Thunderdome if they can't stay away from each other in the threads.
3. Mmmm... MATEN. That's the upper/lower receiver combo I've been thinking about matched up with one of Ranier Arms' 16" polygonally rifled barrels.
4.
Of course I will admit that I would like to sell you a safe over Dicks or TSC but if not I will let you know the biggest difference over the two locks your are talking about. The lock on the Cannon is a basic electronic lock that is fairly dependable, We do alot of the service work for Cannon and they stand behind the lock for a certain amount of time and will send us out to repair or replace a defective lock, matter of fact just replaced one last week for a customer. The mechanical lock on the Stack on is a lower quality mechanical lock and not the same quality as the Cannon. Security wise the Cannon is the better safe and if the Cannon was the same price that would be my choice. Hope this helps with your decision. TSH
That's good customer service right there!
5.
Came out in 1958. You post seems a little, pretentious. Not everyone get the chances you got. Or I got. Not everyone gets access. And not everyone gets a $50k job. Majority of us get paid less than $30k a year. Same level as during the Reagan Administration. So, cause they fear the loss of their job, they do not get to celebrate holidays, particularly one so specifically American in creation and importance? Sad. CONSUME.
Sorry but that's a bunch of relativist horse-crap. No one handed me my opportunities on a silver platter. I worked my ass off for them. Same as anyone else could. But thanks for discounting nearly 30 years of hard work and hard choices by saying I got a leg-up somehow.
6. I made good choices starting about 30 years ago when my grades in school started really counting toward something. I made good choices about 23 years ago when I had to choose between going to college and applying myself or going out f'ing around with my slacker friends. I've continued making good, sometimes difficult decisions ever since then in my career. I've made some decisions that really sucked to endure and cope with but eventually put me in better a better place, employment wise. I've also had the rug pulled out from under me and had to work a less than appealing job or two in order to make sure my bills were paid and my family was taken care of. What I'm getting at is a lot of people working retail had a decision to make somewhere along the line. And while I am not advocating being completely unsympathetic to a person's plight (there but by the grace of God go I) I am saying that there are essentially two groups of people in retail: (1.) those who chose the profession willfully and (2.) those who are just thankful they have a job. The first should understand that with a job in retail comes the tireless task of bending to the consumer's will which sometimes means working on days you'd rather be at home with your family. For the second, those folks aren't likely going to complain because they're doing what they have to do in order to make ends meet. And if they are complaining, then maybe they should have made different choices along the way. So am I going shopping on Thanksgiving night? Probably so. Do I think it's a war on Thanksgiving? No. I'll be shopping with my family and it gets us in the holiday spirit.

Well

My XD-S is in my pocket right now. Stays there almost anytime I've got pants on.
8. How To Get Started as a Vendor on TGO Frequently I am asked by members how they can get started as a Vendor on TGO, or whether they can engage in a small sideline business just as a Benefactor. The answer to the first question is that it's pretty easy and a lot cheaper than you might think. The answer to the second question is no. Let me start with the issue of selling as a business using a Benefactor account: The TGO Benefactor account is an upgraded tier of membership for our folks who want to support the continued growth of TGO. In return for their generosity, they are given the ability to start and publicly reply to threads in our Trading Post forums where they can list items for Sale, Trade or Want to Buy. Benefactors are members who believe in this site and enjoy what we provide to the firearms owner and enthusiast. They are not businesses, although a business member can certainly support the site as a Benefactor if they wanted to. When a person engages in the act of making or building something, or providing a recurring supply of an item, to sell in our Trading Post forums, they are not operating within the spirit of what was intended for our Benefactor program. At that point they are a manufacturer, a retailer or a service provider and that falls into the realm of what is intended for our Vendor accounts. We realize that some folks may make holsters, tumble brass, fabricate knives, refinish firearms or provide other services as a sideline business. A pro-hobby if you will. However, once they engage in marketing that on TGO they simply do need to become a Vendor as they are competing [unfairly] in a space that our Vendors have the special privilege of operating within. Vendor Accounts: TGO Vendors are businesses who support this site through one of several tiers of membership. In exchange for their support, they are granted the privilege of advertising their goods and services through either promotional postings on the forum or several sizes of Banner Advertisements. A TGO Vendor account can start out for as little as the equivalent of $20 per month for a one year term. The various tiers go up from there, but a person who wants to engage in a sideline business can easily get started on TGO for less than the cost of one delivery pizza per month. I have frequently told people who are interested in becoming a Vendor that if their business plan doesn't provide for $240 a year in advertising costs, that they need to re-evaluate their business plan. Being completely honest here, that's dirt cheap advertising. It's cheaper than a box of business cards and is likely to generate a ton more business -- quickly -- for a person than any other means. Newspaper, radio, TV... all are astronomically more expensive than this. Just remember, we do protect the investment that our Vendor partners have made in this site. We do not let anyone advertise commercial interest here without being a TGO Vendor and that does apply to Benefactor members as well. If you're providing recurring goods or services to our members and trying to do this as a Benfactor, your're doing it wrong. So there you have it. If you're interested in becoming a TGO Vendor, contact me and we can get the ball rolling.

bad day

Hang in there, man. I know it seems like a trite, cliche thing to say ... but your mental strength and determination are what will allow you to eventually do things that your doctors and physical therapists tell you might not be possible. The human spirit is an incredibly powerful, wonderful and complex thing. Will keep you in my prayers.
10. Have you tried the penny trick yet? Take aim, hold steady and have a partner balance a penny flat on the top of your front sight blade. Fire. If the penny falls before the primer ignites, you're flinching.
11. GGS used to be a vendor here a while back. He since stopped supporting the forum at some point. I honestly don't recall the specifics of why.
12. I don't have a budget. I'll spend whatever it takes to build a good one, but I am challenging myself to put a complete kit together, with good optics, for $3K or less.
13. I'm not the best shot in the world but I think you're flinching. Even if that gun's tolerances are at the outside of factory spec and it's so loose it rattles, your grouping should not be that wild. The only explanation I would accept for that being the firearm is if the sights are not only loose but each one mounted on a Slinky. Sorry. You're welcome to let me shoot it at the range sometime. Like I said, I'm not the best shot but even the worst 1911 I've ever fired had me grouping them a lot tighter than that.
14. I'm increasingly tempted to build a "heavy" AR chambered in .308 for some longer range shooting. The Mega Arms MATEN upper/lower receiver combo looks like a nice way to get into it and Ranier Arms has a polygonal-rifled barrel that would mate up to it nicely. So show me what you guys have built or bought for your 308 AR platform. Give me some ideas.
15. This week many of us are bound to be traveling for the holiday and spending time with family and friends. I wanted to go ahead and wish everyone here a very Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels! For those of you who are currently off of American soil, serving our country, please be safe and enjoy the holiday as best you can knowing that we're thinking of you back here in the States. I realize that for the majority of us here on TGO, the recent election did not go exactly as we had hoped it would and we are gravely concerned about the future of our nation. There are some here who are without a job, and we likely all know someone who has either lost their employment or otherwise taken a hit because of the economy. Several of us this year have lost loved ones or are presently watching someone close to us writing what may be the final pages of their life's story. But despite all of those bad things, I take comfort in knowing that we have much still to be thankful for. If for no other reason than simply the fact that we still live as free men and women in what Alexis de Tocqueville referred to as this Great Experiment. Enjoy the week ahead!
16. The fact that they think I don't need one tells me I definitely do.
17. JWS, keep in mind that one of the reasons why our Vendor program is successful is that our members do value the investment made in the TGO community by those Vendors and seek to protect them in cases like this. All the more reason you should be looking forward to joining the Vendor ranks yourself.
18. I have to say, with absolute honesty, that if you shot my dog I'm not sure the police would get there in time to help you. For some reason this story just makes me seethe with anger. Dogs are probably the one living example of God's unconditional love for us. No matter how bad things may be going for you, a dog is the one animal on this earth who is likely to love you more than you love yourself. This bitter, hateful, evil old man is a ticking time bomb. Give him a few years and he'll be pulling a gun on someone's CHILD who wanders into his yard. Piece of human s***t.
19.
Out of fairness to the Wounded Warrior Project, they had this posted to FaceBook today: ******************************************************************************** Wounded Warrior Project We've had a lot of questions recently that started when we declined an opportunity to appear on Gun Talk Radio. We want to clarify and help answer some questions. We have seen through this process that the language on our website and our response to the invitation to appear on the show weren’t clear, and we are working on clarifying our approach. There is now much inaccurate information about WWP being anti-gun rights, an issue as an apolitical organization we do not take a stance on. We understand and appreciate that many of our Alumni are gun owners, and we facilitate multiple hunting and outdoor opportunities for our Wounded Warriors throughout the year. ...
However they still have not addressed the matter of firearms ownership. Their open letter to the community advocates hunting numerous times, but does not speak to blanket firearms ownership, etc.
20.
You do run the risk of some wacko sneaking live ammo in there but hey crazy folks are everywhere.
No. Simmunitions use conversion kits that only allow the weapon to fire their projectile. http://simunition.com/en/products/conversion_kits
21. There's a special place in Hell for men like George Garrett. With any luck he'll end up there before he can kill another puppy.
22. Interesting. I donate to WWP through my company's charitable giving program. I'm going to do some research into this and, if confirmed, I'm switching my money elsewhere.
