  1. I just don't understand.     Are you referring to allahu akbar, the Arabic phrase for "God is the greatest" ?  I think everyone pretty much goes with Aloha Snackbar these days.
  2. You may have noticed that the social groups tab at the top of the TGO forums is now gone and are wondering what happened to them.   During the focus group meeting that we had with some of the Benefactor members this morning, I asked about several things to help guide improvements on the TGO site.  When we got around to talking about the social groups, it turned out no one used them.  So that inspired me to come back home and take a closer look at them and how they were being used and by whom.   What I discovered was that a lot of social groups had been created by members but had no posts inside.  Other social groups had a few posts but most of them were from 2013.  The most recent post in any social group was earlier this month, but previous to that the group in question hadn't seen any activity since June of 2014.  Clearly people weren't really using them.   When you couple that lack of activity with the fact that the social groups add-on wasn't visible with the native mobile version of the TGO software let alone Tapatalk, it was obvious to me that this feature just didn't pan out.   So I removed it.     Frankly this will bode well for us as we move ahead.  A new version of the forum software is coming sometime this year and add-ons like the social groups make it very difficult to upgrade.  By removing them now, we're a bit ahead of the curve.   I hope this makes sense and doesn't cause anyone too much heartburn.  If there was a social group that you miss particularly, let me know.  We can always consider adding the firearms-related ones to the lineup of forums.
  3. Welcome!
  4. Try again.  The link requirement is disabled now.  Something's not working right with it.
  5.   It was a happy thought none the less.  I'd be interested in seeing how they could do something like that and produce something even lighter weight.
  6.   I'm back to my 7D right now.  Sold my 5D Mark II and am trying to decide if I really want to sink the coin on a Mark III.  Honestly i prefer the lighter weight and smaller body of the 7D but I do miss full frame a little.
  7. Yep.   :)  Gonna close this one so we can keep all communication going in the other.
  8. I run a 24-70mm f/2.8L as my primary "walk around" lens and it does 90% of what  I need.  I have a 70-200mm f/2.8L for 5% of the rest and the same Thrifty Fifty 50mm f/1.8 prime lens that you have for the other 5%.  These three lenses are really all I need in my kit at the moment and have served me well for about 12 years.  The only thing I've upgraded has been camera bodies.
  9. Several threads about this already.  :)
  10.   Correct.  Just mags at this point.  The photo of the Glock slide is a stock Glock 17 slide... not polymer.
  11. Propaganda follows.  Tasty, tasty propaganda...     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAbNvZ2QHVg&feature=youtu.be   The PMAG 17 GL9 is a 17 round Glock 9mm handgun magazine featuring a new proprietary all-polymer construction for flawless reliability and durability over thousands of rounds. High visibility anti-tilt follower, SS spring, easily removable floorplate for cleaning, Dot matrix for mag marking, ridged floorplate edges for better grip, 17rd indicator windows. Drops free loaded or unloaded. The same boring reliability you expect from an OEM magazine. MSRP $15.95
  12. I looked up the word "Stupid" in the dictionary and found a picture of a compensator on a 9mm.  I haven't located that particular one, but I'm hot on it's trail.   :D
  13. No one has ever said "Hold the presses, guys... NerdWallet has released their financial projects for the year ahead!"   Ever.
  14. He should have just replied "Eff you guys... I was just having fun and making bank for it.  You wish you were me."   :)
  15. Is placing her in a facility that provides 24x7x365 medical care and supervisory attention possible or even in your plan?  I only ask because thankfully this time it was unloaded and happened to you, so you were able to keep the situation controlled and inside the family.   I would be worried about what happens if next time it's not unloaded and it's the postman, or a neighbor, or a neighbor's kid, or....   Sorry you're having to face this.  Getting older sure does suck sometimes.
  16. Go forth and hide in ditches no more...
  17. Welcome!  Don't look now, but you're already participating.  No need to wait.  ;)
  18.   Hooray for the TGO polos!
  19. Changing the name of this thread.  I had someone contact me and ask me if this was the same series of events that I am putting together for Benefactors.  It is not.   I'm glad you guys are getting together but I need to reduce confusion some.
  20.   Yes, but rights apply to all of us.  Even the most undeserving person.  Even the person who abuses those rights the most.  That's why most (all?) of the people you see defending them are doing so.  Not because they agree with the behavior of the MENSA intellectuals you saw on that video, but because of the fact that those rights apply to each of us as well.   The problem with cancers, to borrow your analogy, is that there's no good way to get rid of them without universally applying a poison that affects the healthy members of the body as well.
  21. If I pick up another 1911 this year it will very likely be a Dan Wesson Specialist, in black of course.  They're about $400-500 more than the Colt (on average) but they have everything done to them that I would want in a carry 1911.  Check them out some time.
  22. You guys need to drop me a PM and let me know what business you intend to represent.  I think I'm pretty sure I know what Grand Torino has in mind.  :)   As for the pricing and such, I'll be making that information available later this week privately.  Our rates are changing this year and I'm not done finalizing it.  Bringing some new things to the table as part of the Vendor program, but do not have concrete details yet.
  23. Congrats! My best friend has an MC Operator and nearly convinced me to go the same route, as evidenced by my post around Christmas saying I had clearance to buy one. I honestly cannot give you any justification for *not* going with the MC Operator other than the fact that deep down I really wanted to scratch the Colt itch. You can find a thread I did on his MC Operator back a few years ago when we re-finished the slide in a matte silver color, here: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/15660-refinish-job-springfield-marine-corps-operator/ One thing I would at least research doing, were I you, would be to remove the goofy ILS lock. It's a pretty easy modification and would ensure that there's no way Murphy's Law could strike and render your firearm un-fireable. It's interesting to note that Springfield apparently has a new version of the MC Operator coming out this year. I noticed these pics on another forum yesterday actually: The major differences that I notice are G10 VZ "Slant" style grips rather than the ridiculously bulky Pachmayer grips from the previous version, and the addition of some rather interesting checkering on the front strap and what looks like matching checkering on the main spring housing. Another thing that most folks aren't aware of is that Springfield released in 2014 the "Long Beach Operator" which is essentially the MC Operator but in all black Armory Kote finish, a mag well, and different grips. I rather like it.
  24. I'll send you some info.
  25. Everyone shouid read this...   http://www.allenbwest.com/2014/12/quite-possibly-racist-article-will-ever-read/         About Allen West:   Allen West was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia in the same neighborhood where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once preached. He is the third of four generations of military servicemen in his family.   During his 22 year career in the United States Army, Lieutenant Colonel West served in several combat zones: in Operation Desert Storm, in Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he was a Battalion Commander in the Army’s 4th Infantry Division, and later in Afghanistan. He received many honors including a Bronze Star, three Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals and a Valorous Unit Award. In 1993 he was named the US Army ROTC Instructor of the Year.   After his retirement from the Army in 2004, Allen taught high school for a year before returning to Afghanistan as a civilian military adviser to the Afghan army, an assignment he finished in November 2007.   In November of 2010, Allen was honored to continue his oath of service to his country when he was elected to the United States Congress, representing Florida’s 22nd District. As a member of the 112th Congress, he sat on the Small Business and Armed Services Committees and was instrumental in passage of the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act.   He is a Fox News Contributor, a Senior Fellow at the London Center for Policy Research, and regularly writes for numerous media outlets.   Allen is an avid distance runner, a Master SCUBA diver and motorcyclist. His wife, Angela, holds an MBA and Ph.D. and is a financial planner. His older daughter, Aubrey, attends college in south Florida, and his younger daughter Austen, is in high school.
