  1. I'm just getting online for the first time today.  Hope all is well.
  2. Ron, it sounds like you've made up your mind. Honestly as far as you and your trust are concerned, I really don't care. Seriously. The Coyote trust might be 100% correct for a Tennessee resident and there might be no difference at all between it and what a Tennessee lawyer specializing in NFA trusts could put together for you. Awesome. What I do care about is the people who will come along behind you on TGO, read this thread, and potentially follow along in your footsteps and end up with something that might not protect them from the BATFE and the State of Tennessee. Because as I and others have tried to point out, somewhat unsuccessfully it would seem, is that sometimes the little bit more you will pay for a custom-tailored solution is worth exponentially more in the long run. Ron, you could in all honesty go order all of the parts you needs to build a short barrel AR-15 right now, assemble it, never file a Form 4 and roll the dice. That's even cheaper than doing a mail-order trust! It's illegal as can be, but you can still do it. So long as no one ever sees it and you never talk about it on the Internet, you might just get away without having to pay for a trust or a tax stamp and can admire the frugality of it all in silent secrecy. After all, anyone can order sub 16" barrels all day long and you don't even have to transfer them through an FFL. They aren't serialized. The only thing stopping you or anyone else from doing that is fear of incarceration. But the moment the existence of that unlicensed NFA firearm is revealed to anyone else, voluntarily or otherwise, the gig will be up and you will be charged with felony possession of a restricted firearm. And that'll be the end of that. Which is precisely what could happen to you if the trust you use isn't completely legitimate in Tennessee. So, do whatever you want, Ron. But anyone else who reads this thread... Caveat Emptor. There are many famous examples of just how little the BATFE plays around about this stuff.
  3. If you don't have the money to do a trust the safe way, do you have the money to keep yourself out of prison if it turns out your trust wasn't worth the paper it was written on?
  4. Recording it.  Hope to watch it tomorrow.
  5. Unless all of their members are having to suddenly authenticate past the Captcha mechanism just to log in (normally that's a security mechanism reserved for new user registration) I don't think that's why the forum is so dead over there.
  6. Someone mentioned the plethora of video content already out there for some of the subjects I mentioned.  While that is true, I believe there's a certain comfort level or "bona fides" that come along with material being presented by people you interact with on a regular basis.   I would also aim to keep the content realistic and practical, which means if we end up with training videos of some sort, the focus will be on informative and education content rather than the "edutainment" that I see in a lot of videos.  If you're entertained by it, that would be a happy by-product.  You won't find backflip, hatchet-throwing, Spetsnaz, black-ops type stuff.
  7. One of the suggestions we received at a recent TGO Guns & Coffee Focus Group meeting with some of our Benefactor members was that they'd like to see us start doing some videos on YouTube.  Message received!   We've set up a YouTube channel for the TGO community and are starting to formulate some ideas for upcoming videos.  There's nothing there yet but you guys go ahead and add it to your favorites or something because we're going to start throwing things up there as soon as we can make them.  Which brings us to another question: What kind of videos would you like to see?   Some things that seem obvious to us are...   Product reviews Instructional / How-To videos Interviews Maybe some training videos Coverage of shooting sports   These could all be a combination of TGO-produced and member submitted material.  Any other ideas?  Do any of those resonate with you?
  8.   To be clear, I was not suggesting that TFA be our "sister org".  I'm all for supporting them when it makes sense and think our members should be members of as many different pro-2A organizations as possible.   But I would like to see TGO flex it's own muscle.  Not for vanity's sake but because there need to be multiple voices saying the same things to our elected representatives.  The same way that it's good that the NRA isn't the only voice in D.C. representing us (a la Gun Owners of America, NFA Freedom Alliance, Jews For the Preservation of Firearms Ownership, etc.).  If all you ever hear as a politician is one voice, in a way it doesn't matter how loud that voice is.  But if you're hearing several voices in varying degrees of "loudness" saying the same things, the message has a bit more impact.   It's just too easy for them to dismiss one group as a bunch of fringe loons.  It's harder to dismiss several groups of loons.  ;)
  9.   It's a damn shame, and I mean that... seriously just a damned shame, that Vince passed away.  He and Brad Thor are two of my favorite contemporary authors.  I understand that Brad's Scot Harvath series is in line to be made into some movies so I'm keeping my fingers crossed there.
  10. I'd like to see Old Yeller remade but this time I'd like to see the dog played by Jane Fonda.  Just because she's dared resurface to try and rewrite her own history.
  11. It's interesting to note, though, that back when TGO was just starting up we had gained a tremendous member base very quickly and apparently that caught the attention of John Harris.  At one of their meetings held at Buford Tune's offices over off of Murfreesboro Road, John asked if I'd be interested in merging the two orgs.  I politely declined.  We've never stopped growing but I have no idea what the TFA's membership looks like.   I admit that John himself is almost single-handedly responsible for a great deal of pro-firearms legislation being introduced over the years but at the same time you've got one man doing the bulk of the work there.  What happens with John retires or, God forbid, passes away?  I assume there is some sort of succession plan in place but you're going to lose the big guy with the big name behind the whole thing.  Does TFA even do elections for the Executive Director position?   John used to post here.  I haven't seen him post in quite a while, which is a shame given the lack of traffic over there on their own site.  *shrug*   Anyway... all of this leads me back to a thought I've had more than once over the years.  Namely, that TGO needs a lobbying "sister org" that can leverage the size of our membership.  It's hard to ignore 20,000 voices -- and that's just the people who have bothered to register.  We get millions of hits on the TGO forum on a daily basis.  Our audience and influence is much larger than the number of registered members on the forum.   I don't want for TGO to merge-up with the TFA because there's agility in not doing that.  But I can see us being a force multiplier behind some of the same goals, and I can also see us being a counter-voice if there is ever a case where the TFA or NRA or any other org suddenly loses their minds and backs legislation that might hurt us all.  Hey, anything is possible.
  12. TFA is a legitimate org.  If you can afford to support them, do so.
  13.   You should host the NRA convention at your house.  I assume it's large enough?
  14. Welcome aboard, Chip!
  15.   Well that's really the thing, isn't it.  LDD (the admin on SIGForum) posted his thoughts after shooting one at SHOT this week and showed primer marks on the spent casings that show it's dragging the firing pin as it ejects the casing.  Which means it's ejecting FAST.  The timing between the slide actuation, ejector actuation and magazine follower spring, have got to be set up to keep the gun reliable and reduce as much stress on the frame as possible.  Full-house 10mm loads are brutal on a handgun's mechanicals.
  16. Here's a pic of the P220 10mm from SHOT. I'll post more as I find them.
  17. Love me some K5 Blazers!  My grandfather had an '85 for much of my childhood.  I inherited it nearly 30 years later when he passed away, but unfortunately the truck had so much rust beneath the floor in the cargo area that all I could do was, with great sadness, sell it to someone who wanted a hunting truck.   One of these days I'd like to pick up another in good shape for sentimental value.
  18. Thanks for the compliments, Robin.  But truth be told, without you guys this would just be a big empty thing on the Internet.  We're glad you are here.
  19.   Great, now I want an FNX-45 Tactical even more than I already did.
  20. Here... I submitted that idea to Colion to get it rolling.  :D   https://www.facebook.com/COLIONNOIR/posts/937323182952062
  21.   No, the NRA needs to do a segment on the ratio of firearms-involved violent crimes committed by NRA members, to those committed by NFL, NBA, MLB, etc. that Gumbel normally reports on.  Let's see who the real scumbags are.   Sounds like something Colion Noir should pick up and run with.
  22. Now if only a surgeon could help remove the previous doctor's head from his posterior.  :)
  23. FWIW, you're not allowed to carry a weapon at SHOT show either.  It's an issue of safety at the conference and the fact that they know, statistically, some window-licker won't be able to resist the urge to play with, show off or otherwise finger their own carry weapon and when they do the odds increase that they'll accidentally discharge it.
  24.   No problem.  Just trying to keep it organized.
