Boker Coye Ridgeback - Small fixed blade
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
You should! It reminded me of one of the neck knives you built and posted recently. Let me know if I can take any dimensions down for you or post some photos of different angles of it. -
It took a lot not to whip someone's ass today

There's a good chance this guy had Alzheimer's or was in some other way mentally defective. Normal people don't act like that. Sorry you're the guy that got singled out this time, Gordon. :( -
Sitting in Minor Med...anyone dealing with the crud?
TGO David replied to Slappy's topic in General Chat
Yep. Exact same symptoms. My voice sounds like I've been eating gravel. The way I feel right now, I have serious doubts that I will go to work tomorrow. Can't get warm no matter how many blankets I pile on. -
Boker Coye Ridgeback - Small fixed blade

Those pics are all taken with nothing more impressive than an iPhone 6. I could break out the big DSLR but these days it takes special motivation for me to go through all of that. Good photos are all about light and how you use it no matter what gear you shoot with. :) The sheath attaches to the clip with two screws that pass through the rivets. The Tech-Lok attachments that I ordered will do the same thing, albeit be a lot better quality than the funky contraption that comes with the knives. -

FWIW guys, take a bit of time and do some shopping. I was able to negotiate a package price for the Ridgeback and the Sidekick that saved me about $25 overall with shipping included from a guy who was liquidating his inventory. Blade HQ is a great shop but their prices are about what you can expect to find in general. You can find lower prices if you search. -
Ok, this is the last of the small knives I picked up this past week. This is a Bill Coye designed Boker Ridgeback. There is actually a slightly nicer version of this available from Blade HQ, which has black carbon fiber scales and a black smoke-wash blade. The one you see here came with olive drab Micarta scales and a satin finished 440C stainless blade and cost about 50% less at just a hair under $60. The thing I like about this knife in particular is that the grip is so small. It's about 2-3 fingers long which is just fine for a small hold out belt knife, in my opinion. OAL is 6.75" and the blade is 3.375" of that. It included a simple Kydex sheath and that same funky belt-clip thing that the Boker Sidekick in my other post included. It's a bit surreal walking around outside in shorts, t-shirt and sandals today... while shoveling the last remnants of ice off of our sidewalk. :D

Boker Sidekick - Small Fixed Blade

I've got one more to post. Wait for it later on this evening before ordering anything. It might change your mind. :) -
I have an empty house in Rutherford County that I need to have some basic handyman work done on. At this point we're just talking about hanging some new interior doors and maybe some drywall patching. Doors would need to be trimmed to size and hinges mortised in. It's all stuff I could do if I had time, but it's really hard for me to come by any of that lately. I'm going to try to put the place up for sale in a few weeks so I'd like to hire someone to do this bit of work for me.

Here are some I took in San Francisco back in 2010. Neat city. Wouldn't want to live there but I've visited several times now and have enjoyed it. The fog was super heavy this particular visit so I wasn't able to take those iconic pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge that everyone strives to take, but it ended up being a blessing in disguise and I was forced to explore other shots of it instead. The fog and the heavily-filtered dim sunlight really lent a sorrowful tone to the beautiful architecture. For some reason the crisis helpline call-box really stood out to me and told the darker story of the Golden Gate Bridge. I was not previously aware that numerous people travel to San Francisco each year just to take their own lives by jumping from that bridge. The Rangers at the park were telling us that they do sweeps of the parking lot every morning and evening to see if there are any cars that appear to have been abandoned. If so, they begin searching. The impact of the fall rarely mercifully kills anyone who jumps, they said, but rather does tremendous damage to a person's internal organs and leaves them helpless to drown. Frequently the bodies of jumpers are washed by the tides all the way out to the Farallon islands nearly 30 miles away. Anyway, it was kind of surreal walking along on the bridge with so much of it obscured by fog to the point you could only see the water below every so often, with no ability to see if someone might have been out there on the verge of death hoping that a friendly voice or hand might guide them back in off of the rail. :( BTW, that sad looking guy in black in the last photo, walking along staring at his shoes, was with me that day so I wasn't worried about him jumping. He was a co-worker and we were out there on business, but as annoying as that dude was, I might have pushed him if given the chance.

When I go to the range, all I want is to be left the hell alone. I don't mind social conversation between strings of fire, and I don't mind answering questions from people who have a genuine desire to learn something, but when someone comes up and pontificates at my expense, I get really grumpy, really fast.

Glad to see you back, but sorry to hear of your troubles. Hang in there!

This might not be exactly what you're after but I stumbled across this forum a while back: http://kydexpro.com/ They have a lot of tutorials on there.

Boker Sidekick - Small Fixed Blade
TGO David replied to TGO David's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
No idea. My other Boker came with it also and I just haven't bothered trying to figure it out. It's way oversized and clunky, which seems absurd given how small and sleek the knives are. -
I received this and another Boker this past week. The Sidekick has an OAL of 6.625" and a blade length of 3.25". The blade is 440C steel, the scales are Micarta and it included a Kydex sheath and a strange belt attachment. I have a BladeTech Tech-Lok belt attachment on the way instead. It's a pretty simple knife, made in China of course, and cost less than $50. Not bad for something small to hang on your belt and not get too worked up about if something were to happen to it. That's an odd one. Going to have to look at it a little closer to see what happened there.

As long as it goes bang! Seriously though, the Hi-Point has always struck me as an automatic pistol built by someone who had never seen another automatic pistol before. That's neither good nor bad. Just really different and kinda clunky. :)

Very interesting, and damned sexy. So what parts of it are still Glock? The sear? :)

"Everything mechanical breaks eventually"... my Glock 19 did.
TGO David replied to Jamie Jackson's topic in Handguns
 There's a lot of other crap a 1911 won't do either. Like run when it's full of mud, or carry 15 rounds in the same size frame as that Glock 19, or get carried by more police forces than any other handgun, or.... you get the point. I'm a huge 1911 fan but I am also a huge Glock fan, and a huge M&P fan, etc. Each have their strengths, each have their weaknesses. But this slide breakage isn't an inherent weakness of that Glock any more than a freak frame-crack on a 1911 is a weakness of that platform. -

He also said, "Where's your parts? What do you mean where's your parts? I stole from from you and sold them to other people? Whaaaaaaaat?"
