  1. Old school 1990's IRC user right here. That said, IRC is seriously the wild wild west. We'd have to lock down that channel pretty tightly and put a good bot in charge of it, otherwise you could quickly see it overrun by some of the most illegal, vile stuff on the planet. I've considered Slack as an option but there's a pretty impressive option being coded by a reputable IPB add-ons author and I'm watching to see how it develops. Honestly, I can sort of see where the Invision Power team is coming from in respect to the [lack of] popularity of the Chat feature. On average there are 2-3 people using it in the evening on TGO. I think the most I have seen in recent memory was 12 and that was around the time of one of the Presidential debates. It really doesn't get a whole lot of use here, and if we are typical as an IPB customer, it isn't getting a whole lot of use anywhere else either. I'll keep looking for a replacement since we've got some time left to search.
  2. Just a couple of days. TGO went live in January of 2007.
  3. If you guys do decide to revolt, please hook me up with a cool torch and pitchfork and I'll help you storm the gates. School is going to be mind-bending, but it's something I have been wanting to do for a while now and my company is paying for it, so I need to make good on their investment. Hopefully it quickly becomes part of my routine and doesn't feel as out of place in my schedule as it does right now.
  4. Thanks! I appreciate that. I am willing to give it a shot but I honestly think auctioning items won't be all that popular. People tend to have in mind what they are both willing to spend as a buyer, and willing to accept as a seller so the traditional "set price" format appeals to more folks. Auctioning might make sense on some things, however. Just bear in mind the memory of the Post-Newtown, CT run on ammo and AR platform rifles. Bidding in a climate like that could become nauseating to witness. Hah! Well, I do appreciate that. Honestly though I enjoy doing this stuff as much as you all enjoy using it.
  5. Hey gang... Seeing as how some of you really "love" change (haha) I thought that it might be a good idea to go ahead and start talking about some upcoming improvements and changes to TGO that will occur this month. There are some things coming down the pipe that I think the majority of you will really enjoy, and there are some things coming that may be a bit of an adjustment to some of you as well. Rather than write a really long preamble about all of this, let me just dive into the specifics. New: Image Gallery I have purchased the license to use the Invision Power Image Gallery system. Because Amazon's S3 storage is so cheap, I am finally able to offer you all the ability to host photos of your gun collections for everyone to enjoy, right here on TGO. In actuality, the Image Gallery also has the ability to host videos, but that is a feature I will have to give some thought to enabling as we move ahead. For the time being we will just allow photos. New: Articles and Reviews I have also purchased the license to use the Invision Power Pages system which allows us to host articles and reviews written by TGO Members and TGO Staff, in a nicely formatted, easily searched library of material. Basically it will allow me and the Staff to chose posts that you are already writing or have written, and promote them to either an Article or a Review depending on the content. One of things that has made TGO so successful over the years is the amount of knowledge amassed within it because of you. This just allows us to organize it a little better for everyone's benefit. Uncertain Future: Real-time Chat As I had mentioned previously, Invision Power is discontinuing their real-time Chat feature that some of you enjoy using here on TGO. I honestly don't understand why they are doing this beyond the explanation that they have offered on their support forum. Namely, that it is not a popular product within their portfolio and maintaining it draws away resources that they want to focus on other things. Bummer. I will be continuing to look for a replacement for the Chat feature. So far, the prospective replacements have not been very good or very exciting, but I have not given up. The current Chat system will expire at the end of April, 2017. New: Improved Classified Ads This is a big one and honestly is the one that I am most excited about. One of the things that has kept me from adopting a more feature rich Classified Ads approach on TGO has been the popularity of the Tapatalk mobile phone application. In a nutshell, Tapatalk doesn't show you the whole "TGO Experience" and only shows you the basic things (threads, posts, private messages) and only in the Tapatalk format. If it doesn't fit inside their carton, it doesn't get displayed on their app. Also a bummer. I have purchased a new Classifieds add-on for our forum software that not only provides you with an experience similar to Gunbroker or any other number of sites that allow easy upload of product photos, but it also creates a new thread inside the forums any time that you post an ad, so that folks using Tapatalk can participate as well. Some of the features this thing has are: Central area for you to view all of your ads, including expired ads, and manage them. People can make offers (bids) on an advertisement if you have set the ad to allow it. Ads are integrated into the IPBoard activity streams and show up as new material. Ads are searchable within IPBoard like any other content. Ads can include Google Maps if an address is provided by the person posting the ad. Ads can be added to a "Wish List" by members. Ads can contain photos, easily uploaded to the ad from within the system. Ads can be marked to allow questions and answers. We will also have a special section of Ads just for our TGO Vendors to showcase items for sale! I will be making the new Classifieds system available to you as quickly as possible. I have already begun setting it up and hope to have it ready for use within the next week or two. Uncertain Future: Mutiple "Themes" for Viewing TGO I had to save the bad news for last, I guess. Maintaining multiple "themes" for viewing TGO is a real pain and takes a lot of time. Whenever a new version of the forum software is released, I can end up spending hours to make the various themes work with the new version, and unfortunately my free time for this sort of thing is going to be extremely limited in 2017 as I focus on going back to college for another advanced degree. My free time for a lot of stuff is going to be limited because of that. I know that some of you really prefer the Dark theme and find it to be easier on your eyes, but I am honestly not sure for how much longer I can keep that available to you. If I find an easier way to provide a darker version of our main visual theme, I will gladly jump on it, but at the moment I just cannot make any promises. Hopefully those of you who prefer the darker theme will be able to just bump down the brightness on your computer or mobile devices, and stick with us. Well, that's the long and short of it all. Feel free to ask questions or discuss. I'll be glad to offer whatever additional information that I can.
  6. I was looking at the pics of the upcoming M&P 2.0 again and noticed a few things that make me think that maybe Smith & Wesson has succeeded in making the serialized part of the gun a removable firing control chassis similar to what Sig Sauer did with the P250 and P320. If you notice the photos show that there is no longer a metal plate near the grip on the right-hand side of the frame. But we also saw those odd "openings" in the dust cover that we wondered what purpose they served. So I pulled the leaked Academy Sports advertisement into Photoshop, zoomed in, adjusted the contrast and brightness and, lo and behold, look what I found: Inside those two portals in the polymer frame are a 3D barcode (QR code style) and the serial number! So it looks like S&W may really have a modular handgun!
  7. There's a lot of so-called reviewers in that boat, unfortunately.
  8. Thank you sir! January marks our 10th Anniversary, which is almost impossible for me to believe. Much has happened in those 10 years!
  9. It is still entirely his prerogative to expect it of anyone he sells a gun to. Most folks do a simple bill of sale for a car or any other major item they sell / buy privately. I think it's curious that some gun owners get very put off whenever someone asks the same for an item that we all know has so much legal baggage attached to it. And yes, I get and appreciate that some buyers want to be "off the radar" but in doing so they essentially are leaving the seller with all burden of proof if the buyer or a subsequent buyer does something illegal with it. If a seller wants me to sign a form, I'll sign the form. If they don't ask, I don't volunteer. I have a lot of other things in my life to stress about. This isn't one of them.
  10. I have added a Private Party Bill of Sale to the FAQ section again. Not sure how we lost the last copy, but no worries. You can find the new one here: As has been mentioned already, this is not required by law and some buyers will refuse to conduct a transaction with you. That is certainly their prerogative. I have in the past required it and likewise in the past not required it. I tend to keep at least two blank copies with me and go on instinct or previous knowledge of the buyer when deciding whether or not I want to use it. If I think it is even a possibility, I will let the buyer know before wasting their time or mine with a meeting. That said, if a buyer voices no concern about it in advance and then balks at the time of the transaction and consequently "wastes my time", I will absolutely log negative feedback for that person here on the forum as a courtesy to anyone else who might consider doing business with them in the future.
  11. The following form is provided to members of TGO as a courtesy and is a recommended private party Bill of Sale for the transfer of firearms. Please note the emphasis on the word recommended. While this form certainly has benefits for both the buyer and the seller, there is no legal requirement for it to be used. Arguments For: In the event that the firearm transferred to the buyer is eventually used in the commission of a crime, the seller has a record of having performed reasonable due diligence to document who the firearm was sold to and that the buyer attested to being able to legally own the firearm. This document could be provided to the authorities if the seller was ever investigated due to having been listed on a Form 4473 as being the original purchaser of the serialized forearm. The buyer is likewise provided with a record of who sold the firearm to them in the event that the firearm is ever determined to have previously been stolen or used in a crime. Arguments Against: It is not required by law. Some buyers prefer private party sales simply because there is no documentation in the hands of a government entity of that transaction having ever occurred. The form may be downloaded from the attachment to this post. PrivateTransferForm.pdf

  12. A lot of police departments allow the use of their parking lot for Craigslist and other online sales transactions, including firearms. It's wise to call ahead and ask of course.
  13. If you have never fired a 38 Super before, you're going to love it! That is a beautiful handgun and words almost fail me for the scenery. Amazing!
  14. Welcome to TGO!
  15. You're welcome! You guys didn't have to be patient with me but you did and that helped me spend some extra time with the family during the holidays and I appreciate that!
  16. It looks like the ones going to folks close to Nashville arrived yesterday and the others going to the two ends of the state will arrive today and tomorrow! For those of you who already received yours, how do you like them? I'm using mine at the moment and am still very happy with how long they keep coffee warm!
  17. I am more than a little surprised at the fact that Glock hasn't come out swinging on this one.
  18. The latest review video from Military Arms Channel, posted today. He claims they are arriving at distributors now and should start being available in stores around the first of the year. This video compares one that was sourced here in the states, so it should be identical to what you and I can buy. He admits the trigger feels slightly different than the ones they fired in the Czech Republic but not in a bad way. He also shows how the P-10C fits a pair of kydex holsters made for the Glock 19. I am still very interested in one of these.
  19. Someone posted a fairly high resolution photo of an FDE P-10C on Facebook earlier...
  20. As a quick update, all of these have shipped and the latest projected delivery on any of them is Saturday. Some of you will receive yours tomorrow (Thursday). To thank you for allowing me a few extra days to get them shipped, every one of them shipped with at least one TGO decal and one of the Shall Not Be Infringed decals.
  21. I have bought from him a few times. Good dude. Good prices.
  22. Here's the way I look at this: The HPA, if it even happens, is going to be at least a year or two out. If it does pass, hopefully manufacturers will have ramped up their production schedules ahead of it and stocked up enough to keep supply channels flowing, otherwise we will see a pretty serious shortage on the front end of the HPA's sunrise. If you want a suppressor sooner than 2-3 years from now and have the means to do it, I would go ahead. There is really no guarantee that the HPA will become reality anyway.
  23. Guys I really appreciate it. Some of you know that I work in the healthcare industry. My department and I have been working 24hrs a day since Saturday for emergency coverage of an IT problem. I haven't left my desk for more than a few hours of sleep since Sunday, so I am really running behind on this. I hope to get them out in the mail today or tomorrow, and am going to try to deliver KahrMan's to him today just so that I can say I got out of my office once this week!
  24. My wife wears a lot of yoga pants around the house and occasionally out shopping with a long shirt or sweater. I don't mind it. One of the things she has not been able to do, though, is carry a gun with them. This might be a fix for that.
  25. Tracking info shows that they are on delivery today before 10am. If they arrive in time, I'd be glad to try to drop yours off to you Bill.
