  1. I was playing around in my garage, trying to create something unique for my 1911 collection. I had this idea. This is how it turned out . . . . . (photo heavy)
  2. It took me three days to get back to fulfill my committment to upload a photo or two, but here you go . . . . . My Ruger stable, from front to back . . . P94 - .40 S&W P85-II - 9mm P91 - .40 S&W P90 - .45 ACP
  3. Dang, nice one. I was wanting one for a while. Hard to find in that great of condition. I had to settle for a P85 Series II. My 1911 passion actually started by chasing the old Ruger P-Series. Photos when I get back to the house.
  4. I haven't done a detailed inspection of it. I've just taken it out and shot it. I know the barrel has been replaced as well. It is more recent vintage than the frame and slide.
  5. That one looks to be a bit of a FrankenColt. The slide dates to 1945 military production, which would have been towards the end of the war and would have been .45 ACP. The slide is pretty obvious not military. It's a .38 Special (not .38 Super) National Match. The length differences between the two cartridges, and the size difference in the magazines, makes me wonder how it shoots, if at all . . . .
  6. Funny, I only own two Kimbers. There are other manufacturers of 1911's I prefer way more, and for a variety of reasons. One of my two Kimbers is a 10mm, the other is a .38 Super . . . .
  7. Doesn't exactly address your question, but I browse mainly via my phone and use Chrome. I hate Tapatalk. I think the site automatically serves me the mobile links, as the phone pages look and act differently than the pages I see on a PC. That is my preferred way to view the site when not at my PC. I do have a tablet, and my viewing preferences on it are the same as my phone. I don't use it often
  8. When folks ask me how it got like that, I like to imagine it was dropped on the flight deck of a WWII aircraft carrier and got stuck under the wood planks for a number of years . . . . Either that, or it was recovered from your grandfather's boating accident . . .
  9. This old war horse 1918 Colt was the brainchild of the little know "smith" Wade Wilson. This Colt sports his signature finish, perfected over time and with a LOT of assistance by Mother Nature. When I saw this one, I had to have it. Despite it's rugged manly appearance, it shoots like hot grease on ice. I wish this one could talk . . . . According to the original seller: "Made in 1918 for use in WWI. Marked United States Property. Lots of wear and battle scars -- per the last owner, it was used in WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Lots of history here. Still pulls tight groups, and has never malfunctioned in my hands." I was able to contact the ORIGINAL seller. He said it was a bring home by his Dad from Vietnam. It has the AA arsenal stamps in it. Slide is probably older than the frame. It is stamped MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY on the right side of the slide. Looks like the thumb safety and grip safety had probably rusted in place and have been replaced, but they also look period correct - not new. They have much less pitting in them. Original seller also swears his Dad claimed that this one saw service in WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Of course, I ain't got nothing in writing proving this. I am thinking THIS one spent some considerable time in the Pacific theater during WWII. And don't forget, Korea and the jungles of Vietnam of course . . . . This one does bear the "AA" Augusta Armory stamp on the left side of the frame, indicating it had been rebuilt at the arsenal at least once. I am thinking that is when the thumb and grip safeties were replaced. Internally, it is worn a bit, but still tighter than a new Colt. Slide action feels good. Firing pin and spring look new also, but the firing pin stop looks original, or old. So, whadda y'all think of this old Wade Wilson Deadpool Customs special . . . . . ?
  10. Here is a great bit of information on these, if interested. https://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=68064
  11. There are actually a couple series of guns that are called "Sistema's." The most notable are the DGFM-FMAP 1911's that were made in Argentina for the various branches of the military. There were a little over 1.5 Million of these guns produced between 1945 and when production stopped in 1966. Obviously, the earlier guns made in the 1945 to 1950 years will be more war worn and harder to find in good condition than those produced after 1950. Then there are the Argentinian Colt contract Sistema's that were fully made here in the USA in Hartford, CT and sent to Argentina in small lots between the years of 1927 and 1933. Colt made and shipped only 10,000 of those guns for the contract. Those were manufactured between 1927 and 1928 exclusively, after which Colt engineer supervised the set up of Argentinian manufacturing, licensed the design, and trained Argentinian nationals to make them for themselves. No one knows how many of these original 10,000 guns have survived to today. Finding them in shootable condition, with all matching serial numbers, is a daunting task. Here are a few photos of mine, a true 1927 manufacture, serial numbers matching, Hartford MFG Argentinian Contract Colt - #4,921 of 10,000
  12. I've been wanting one of those DGFM-FMAP Argentinian Sistemsa's for quite a while now. My neighbor had one and sold it. Didn't consult me on it, but he thought I wouldn't have had the cash for it. He sold it for $500. I could still kick him for not consulting me first.
  13. Fast forward to 2017. You would have a hard time picking up a nice one of these Sistema's for less than $750.
  14. Heck, they look that way now . . . .
  15. This is a Husqvarna m1907 Swedish Military / m07 Civilian Pistol - chambered in .380 ACP Based on Browning "No. 2" design, or the FN Model 1903, this pre-1911 style pistol was produced by Husqvarna in Sweden after Germany occupied Belgium and cut off Sweden's supply. Browning also licensed his No.2 design to Colt, which resulted in the production of the Colt Pocket Hammerless pistols in both .32 & .38 ACP. This little beauty is a civilian model I believe . . . . . . Enjoy . . . . .
  16. I was thinking on starting a "show and tell" thread on these and couldn't decide if it should be in the Handguns section or the C&R section. Then I remembered this one. I'll show you mine if you show us yours . . . . . .
  17. Right now, I've got AMT quadruplets Hardballer Longslide - 45 ACP - 6" Hardballer Standard - 45 ACP - 5" Commando commander sized - .40 S&W - 4.25" (this is a tough one to find, it's NOT the officer sized Skipper) AutoMag III - .30 Caliber Carbine long slide - 7"
  18. No problem Bigun, I've got something to help you out . . . . . She'll start with your monitor . . .
  19. OK, I'll play . . . . here are a couple that followed me home . . . . .
  20. I was thinking primarily on this site. Is there a particular area or sub-forum? Some sites have specialty areas for discussions on revolvers, C&R, Milsurp, etc. I did a little poking around last night but couldn't find one. I've been to the site mentioned. I'm not a fan of its size or format. So far I like this one much better.
  21. I had Glock 20 and 29. Really wasn't my thing. I would love to see that NoName. Right now, I think I only have a couple 10mm's. A Kimber Custom Eclipse II and a Delta Elite. Here is a photo of the "twins" . . . . . I really miss that Commander sized RIA though . . . . . prefer them without the rail however.
  22. New guy here, but not new to forum discussions. Thought I would throw this out there. Is any forum better/worse for posting 1911 related topics, questions, photos, etc? Just curious. Off to bed, I'll get your replies in the morning.
  23. Thanks. Just trying to figure out the most appropriate place to post some of them. I also need to get some of my content moved to my hosting location. I'm used to sites that allow direct uploads of images. Might have to wrap it up for the night. I need to be up in five hours or so . . . .
  24. I miss my RIA 10mm . . . . like a dummy, I traded it off for something "a little nicer," but there is just no substitute for those 10mm commanders . . . .
