IWB doesn't work for me and pocket carry of a primary is not my first choice - although I admit to being lazy and choosing that method, sometimes - especially in the summer. I can't carry 24/7 because of where I work but I do carry whenever I legally can. My main carry method is OWB with a tucked in t-shirt or other undershirt with either an untucked polo type shirt or unbuttoned/untucked button-up type shirt as a cover garment. Not exactly 'deep cover' but deep enough that I consider it CC as I truly believe that the vast majority of people never notice it even if part of the handgun and/or holster become exposed for some reason. Of course, in cooler weather I may be wearing a different or additional cover garment (jacket, etc.) as well. About the only times I have OC'd in public have been times when I have taken my overshirt off in the vehicle because of extremely hot weather and simply didn't put it back on before making a quick trip into a convenience store, etc. At home, around the yard, I often carry a SA Heritage revolver with a 6.5 inch barrel loaded with WMR as 'varmint repellant'. Needless to say, that is OC all the way.

Okay, let me start by saying that thankfully I have never had to shoot a human being. I still wonder what kind of assailants some folks expect to face who will absorb even one - much less multiple - rounds from a 9mm and just get ticked off. Hell, for that matter, I wonder about what kind of assailants folks expect to face that will take two or three rounds from a .380 using modern SD ammo without a sudden change in attitude. I mean, sure there probably are roving, male silverback gorillas high on a cocktail of crack, pcp and paint fumes here and there but geez - it's like some folks really expect it to be a common occurence that an assailant would take two or three premium 9mm defensive rounds COM then just look at them and say, "You shouldn't oughta have done that 'cause now you've really pissed me off!" Heck, in the limited experience I do have (a couple of low-lifes trying to break in where I used to live) staring down the barrel of a 'lowly' .38 Special through the window in the front door was enough to bring about a sudden change of attitude and cause them to vacate the premises.

Which is why I think simunitions would be a good addition to the show...er...'experiment'.

This is my absolute favorite LGS. They have always treated me right. Yeah, it can get a little 'cluttered' - and that is part of the charm, for me. I wouldn't change a thing about it. At the other end of the spectrum is Benton Shooter's Supply, a ways on down 411 from Farnsworth's. Large, neat, well organized store. No clutter, really. I haven't talked with the staff there as much as I have talked with the staff at Farnsworth but the staff at Benton seems fine - and they often have pretty girls running the cash registers. Large handgun selection - and prices $40 to $50 higher on handguns (at least on the ones I have compared) than Farnsworth's. Also, during the start of the ammo shortage, BSS was splitting 100 round value packs of UMC .380 (which Walmart sold for ~$39 for each pack of 100 when they had them) and pricing them at $30 per 50 rounds, nearly double the price. I can deal with a little clutter. I will say, though, that Benton often has ammo types I can't find anywhere else - which is just about the only reason I ever go there.

With this season, I agree that the 'government agency' thing explains why the colonists wouldn't have firearms. That does not, however, explain why the 'raiders' - who obviously aren't 'peace, love hippies' and who weren't brought there by the government agency wouldn't have firearms.

For me, the BUG is more about the possibility that I won't be able to get to my primary, my strong side might be too out of commission to use the primary or my primary might malfunction more than the thought that the primary will run dry before the fight ends. That is why I am okay with a NAA mini in WMR for a BUG, sometimes - because I see a weak hand BUG as more of a 'get off me' contact weapon where going for the primary might not be possible than as a weapon to act as a secondary 'gunfight' weapon. When I carry a reload (either a mag for a semiauto or a speedloader for a revolver) it is mostly a thought of 'why not?' because doing so isn't difficult and it just might come in handy.

I do sometimes find the larger capacity of some semiautos to be comforting. That said, I've also come to the conclusion that if I end up facing several determined, armed attackers where no possibility of retreat or cover is available - in a 'stand up gun battle' type situation - my only real hope is that the attackers change their minds and retreat once I present an armed defense. To my mind, a revolver would do as well as a semiauto in bringing about such a response. If the attackers do not break off the attack and I cannot get away, the only difference the increased capacity will make is how many rounds are still in my gun when I die. That said, 95% of the time that I can legally carry I will have a reload, a BUG or both.

Great looking Ruger, there. As far as revolver vs. semiauto I have to ask - do I really have to choose? Unlike some of you folks, I can't carry every day, all day. Because of where I work, carrying at work would be a violation of state law. In fact, the way I read the law, even having a firearm in my vehicle would be a violation of state law. That said, when I am not at work, I carry whenever and wherever it is legal. My earliest handgun experience was with revolvers. I like semiautos but have trouble completely trusting them. Last year, for my own peace of mind, I decided that I would have a revolver on me at all times when I can carry. I might have a revolver (usually a snubnosed .357, probably loaded with .38s) as my one and only. I might have a revolver for primary with my P3AT (with a spare mag) as my BUG or I might have a semiauto as primary and just my little NAA .22 WMR as a BUG. Semiautos do have some advantages for carry and I recognize that those advantages exist. That said, I don't care what anyone else - expert or not - says. In my experience, limited as it may be, revolvers in general are more reliable, easier to use and less ammo picky with regard to functionality than semiautos and that is the experience upon which I will base my decisions. A revolver jam may be worse than a semiauto jam but I believe a revolver jam is much, much less likely.

You should call them (Kel Tec and email response/customer service apparently do not go well together) and see what they have to say. Never can tell but I wouldn't be at all surprised if their reaction were to have you send them the basket case and then send you a new P32. Kel Tec: (321) 631-0068

I've seen a few charts and/or test results which suggest that the WMR from a revolver with a barrel of about 6 to 6.5 inches is roughly equivalent to a LR from a rifle. The PMR-30 has a barrel that is a good bit shorter than that at 4.3 inches. It is possible that WMR loses less through the auto PMR-30 than through a revolver due to the lack of a cylinder gap, etc. If so, that is pretty impressive, IMO. A Kel Tec employee posting over on one of the Kel Tec forums has been saying that there are plans to release an after-market barrel somewhere down the line that will be an inch or two longer. I think that the PMR 30 would make a nice gun to have with you if just kicking around the woods, camping, etc. if the largest threat you were likely to face was a coyote or a big dog. Having thirty rounds on board and a loaded, spare mag would pretty much cover the need for spare ammo, etc. in such a situation, I would think. That said, I already have a Heritage convertible single action revolver that fills the yard/woods gun role for me just fine as well as a NAA mini chambered in WMR to go with my Marlin 925M. I am a Kel Tec fan (have a P11 and a P3AT) and I really like the .22WMR cartridge but don't really see that I have a need or, really, a desire for a PMR 30. Not at this time, anyway. The thirty round capacity is an interesting feature but, to my mind, if I think I might need thirty rounds of .22WMR to accomplish a particular task then what I really need is to put the WMR away and take along a larger caliber handgun.

I had stepped away for a minute during the scene with the snake. My wife (who is highly phobic - as in hides her eyes if there is one on television) told me about it when I returned. My response was, "Well, I hope to hell they killed it, skinned it and got it ready to cook." When she replied that they didn't, I said, "Dumbasses." When the first three intruders showed up demanding supplies, etc. - after they had been nicely told to go away and began trying to get into the building where the survivors had made their HQ, etc. - I told my wife, "If that were a real situation and we were in it, we'd suddenly have plenty of meat for that night." She said, "Ugh." Then I said (just to get a rise out of her), "You're right. It would probably be better just to capture them, tie them up and quaranteen them for a few days to make sure they don't have the virus. Then we could kill them and eat them." The look on her face was priceless. I like chocolate things, in general, but with Moon Pies I think I also like the vanilla and banana better. Yeah, the orange ones are 'interesting' - as are the peanut butter ones.

Good article and good attitude. One thing I found humorous, though, was his comment about private citizens who legally carry generally knowing the 'gist' of the law but not, necessarily, the details. The funny thing is that I think the same could be said for many LEOs. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if some HCP holders (including some on this forum) are more current and better informed regarding carry laws than many LEOs.

I often carry spray even when I am carrying a firearm. I figure it is good to have options. Thing is, from what I have found, TN state law is a lot more clear on when it is legal to use a firearm in SD than when it is legal to use pepper spray. For instance (and this is a hypothetical, not something that has happened to me), some jackhole - maybe a drunk jackhole - decides he wants to fistfight for one stupid reason or another. Of course I wouldn't feel justified or want to shoot him but I also have no desire to get into a fistfight like a couple of fifth graders on the school playground. So, anyone know the relevant laws regarding when it is clearly legal to spray him? When it is obvious that he means to start a physical altercation, after he actually throws a punch, etc.

You are probably right. I only heard that once on the local news. It wasn't even a full story on park carry, just one of the anchors reading a short blurb about the (then) bill. I even said to my wife, "That's the first time I've heard anything about that." So I guess more media misinformation, it is. I thought a lot of the opposition was because some (certainly not all) Rangers nowadays are wannabe hippies and flower children.

I do not care to walk around wearing an empty holster. That is the reason I like holsters that can be removed easily without removing the belt - paddle holsters, belt loops with snaps, etc. It isn't so much that I care what someone in a restaurant, etc. thinks as it will be the rare occassion that I will eat somewhere that doesn't permit legal carry (can't say never - might want to eat with friends who are dead set on going to a particular restaurant.) It is also less of a concern now that it is legal to carry in non-posted restaurants that serve alchohol. However, if there is a time that I have to leave my carry weapon in my vehicle, I think that carrying an empty holster just advertises, "There is an unattended firearm in my vehicle that just might be free game for any lowlife that cares to rob me." With easily removable holsters, pocket holsters, etc. I just slip the whole thing, holster and all, off/out and secure it somewhere in the vehicle before I even open the door to lessen the opportunity for anyone in the parking lot to observe me leaving my firearm in the vehicle.

I'm not surprised that Putin would want to drum up support and fanfare for Russian spies - especially those that had been spying on our country. I have long felt that, if he could, Putin would re-hang the Iron Curtain in a heartbeat. Of course, I have never met the man but I don't trust him one bit. I wouldn't be surprised to find that his fingers are pulling at least some of the strings controlling global concerns the U.S. faces, today. I think he holds a grudge because his nation crapped out and ours hasn't. At least, not yet.

I like little birds. Just one more reason to hunt deer (as if I needed one.)

No credentials to list but, just in my own mind, like Jamie, I think of COM with regard to SD target acquisition as being the xiphoid process. I figure if I am off even a few inches to the left, right, up or down I'm still hitting the assailant in the torso and, unless I am facing The Terminator, that's probably going to adjust their attitude and make them reconsider the (as Ayoob says) victim selection process whether it is a fatal shot or not.
