The only holster I have with a retention strap is the one I made to carry my Rossi .357 snubbie. Because the barrel is so short and the part where the cylinder rides is such a wide opening, I didn't like the retention that the open top pancake holster I made for it gave - although a pancake with a higher top like in krunchnik's post would probably solve that issue, too - the top of the pancake I made hits just behind the cylinder (it was the first holster I made.) I set the one with a strap up as a 'thumb break' and the strap unsnaps pretty easily but it is still an extra step that slows my draw as compared to the belt slide holster I use for my Ruger P95 or the FOBUS holsters I have for a couple of my other firearms. If you can get a comfortable level of retention without having the extra step of unsnapping a strap then that would be my recommendation. EDIT: I should have said that the only holster I regularly use for SD carry in public with a retention strap is the one I made for my snubbie. I have others that are used more for carrying around the yard, woods, etc.

That is pretty much what I was thinking. The similarity was enough to make me think that ripping off KT for the Little Copied Pistol worked so well that Ruger decided to keep the successful trend going. It might be comical if all the gun rag writers didn't fall all over themselves talking about how 'innovative' Ruger's design is while ignoring that the KT version has been out for years. That is probably because the PF-9 looks similar to the Kel Tec P3AT that Ruger ripped off for the LCP.

With the questionable legality of having a firearm in my vehicle where I work, given that we generally drive my wife's vehicle on weekends, I don't keep a 'truck gun'. That said, if it were not for that questionable legality - or if ever my employment situation is such that the legality is not questionable - I will most likely keep a 'truck gun' and it will probably be either a single-shot shotgun or - even better - one of the Rossi 'matched pairs' that will have both a single shot shotgun and single shot rifle barrel. I wouldn't just leave it lying around, though - it would be in a case that could be secured via a cable, etc. to some part of the vehicle. Heck, I might even keep an inexpensive .38 revolver in the case with it. Neither would be loaded but I would have ammo in the vehicle.

The HRR is a single action. Exposed trigger is not only no big deal, IMO, but actually seems to be the standard style in holsters for single action revolvers. Looks good, joejodus. Kind of a 'slim-jim' style - basic yet functional and nice-looking.

Yeah, Robbie at Farnsworth's told me that it makes no sense that some places charge the hazmat fee for loaded ammo when there is no such fee. I trust him and believe that there really isn't such a fee but I have still seen such fees added to 'dummy' orders I have created online out of curiosity as to what it would cost to order ammo. I can't remember specific companies right now but I would have sworn that Buffalo Bore was one of them (although I see that they have now changed their cart setup and no longer give an itemized list showing shipping charges, etc.) I guess I should just avoid companies that try and charge hazmat fees for loaded ammo but being that I don't order bulk even paying 'normal' S&H charges for one or two boxes of ammo can mean paying 1/2 as much or more for shipping as the ammo, itself, costs. I don't want to hi-jack but any advice on places to order where shipping charges are low or nonexistent even on small orders would be appreciated. Sounds like good prices. I'm not sure I want to order from CTD, though, considering how they jacked up the prices of .380 ammo during the shortage. Raising the price a few bucks a box is understandable but seeing a price tag of nearly $60 for a box of FMJ left a bad taste in my mouth. Yeah, it may be simple supply and demand but it also seems like taking advantage of their customers.

I don't know if we should consider this weather 'odd' or not. I have no stack of statistics to pull out and show. What I do have are memories of being a kid in the 1970s and early 1980s living in the TN Valley (in Lenoir City, nowhere near the 'higher elevations') and having to wear our heavy coats when trick or treating because it was already really cold by the end of October. I remember a time when we actually needed our winter coats for most of the winter, not just a few weeks in January or so. I also remember a few years when we had to go to school for 1/2 days on Saturdays because we used up more than our scheduled amount of our snow days (and we generally had more snow days built into the schedule back then than they seem to have, now.) I remember more than one year that we got a few extra days tacked onto the end of our Christmas vacation because it snowed so much on or around New Year's Day that schools had to remain closed for another couple of days. As I said, these are only my memories with no stack of numbers to validate them. However, I can't help but thinking that our current 'weird' weather is more a return to normal than anything else. As for global warming, climate change or whatever you want to call it, I have no doubt that it is real. Such changes in climate have been causing and ending ice ages for millennia and there is no reason to believe that the cycle has stopped just because people are here any more than there is reason to believe that we are causing it now just because we happen to be here this time around. In fact, there is no real reason to believe that the entirety of modern human history (and even some of our prehistory) hasn't taken place in a warming period during an ice age. Maybe that ice age (the Wurm, to be specific) is finally ending, for real. Further, according to the fossil and geological records (you know, hard evidence), there was a time when there were NO polar ice sheets, Alaska had a climate more like modern Ft. Lauderdale and much of the planet was covered with tropical vegetation. Of course, a lot of that was probably before Australia broke away from Africa and changed the circum-global ocean currents but the climate has 'changed' more than once since. Heck, there have even been mammoth found frozen with undigested palm fronds in their stomachs (suggesting that the climate change took place very quickly.) So maybe this whole 'climate change' thing is really just a return to normal. Not normal for us, maybe, but normal for a planet that was already old when the first recognizable hominid decided to stand up on two feet and walk. Do we humans pollute and damage our environment? Yes, undeniably. Should we believe that we are causing 'climate change' when such change happened untold numbers of times before humans even existed? I don't see why we should.

Personally, I think it looks good. Not necessarily 'pretty' but who needs that in a carry gun, anyhow? I'd describe it as a pleasantly utilitarian look with an interesting yet still service-oriented color combination. It is a form-follows-function aesthetic which suits the pistol rather than trying to make it into something it isn't. Unfortunately, it would probably still feel like a Glock and the way they feel in my hands is the reason I have never been interested in owning one.

Especially when something written in support of the Second Amendment by that one person (The Federalist #46) explains why the Second Amendment is a good thing, says nothing about 'reasonable restrictions' and, in fact, argues against the same. It doesn't matter why he wrote the paper - whether to get support for the Constitution or not - he did write it and he did clearly come out in support of the ideas that: 1. Militia means any and all able-bodied citizens and has no component, whatsoever, that requires any sort of formal, military service or affiliation and 2. The main reason for the Amendment is so that the people - not the National Guard, not the Army, not the cops but the PEOPLE can and will have the means to resist tyranny. The only way that #2 could have even a reasonable chance of success in today's world would be if the PEOPLE have immediate access to 'military' type weapons. In other words, the 2A protects the very weapons that 'reasonable restrictions' would ban or limit - full auto, armor piercing ammo, high capacity magazines, etc. - even more than it protects a .357 revolver or a deer rifle (although the latter could certainly be pressed into service if necessary, as well.) This is based on what Madison said/wrote, not on a bunch of BS that some old liberal judge fantasizes Madison might have believed. Further, it is just more arrogance on the part of an appointed-for-life Justice who thoroughly believes that he and his fellow Justices - being so much more 'advanced' in their thinking than the common, American riff-raff that they rule...er...'serve' - should be able to throw out both history and the Constitution in order to legislate from the bench whenever the Constitution inconveniently disagrees with their ideals. If he can't support his argument with evidence based on what Madison and the other Founders actually said and wrote, he'll tell you how Madison really felt (even though that disagrees with what the man wrote and said) and get a bunch of so-called 'historians' - somehow equally gifted with abilities both psychic and necromantic as he seems to believe himself to be - to support his hogwash.

I bought a used P11 shortly after I got my carry permit. It took a little 'getting used to' but as most of my handgun experience to that point was with revolvers, the DAO trigger wasn't that unusual, to me. I finally got to the point that I could keep all shots inside an 8 inch target from ten yards. Then it started having troubles and I ended up getting a brand new one to replace it. I never liked the new one. Even though I had gotten pretty good with my former P11, I couldn't hit for crap with the new one. Even holding above the target, I would hit low. Honestly, shooting side-by-side for comparison, from seven yards, I found that I was more accurate with my NAA WMR mini than with the new P11 (and this was before I replaced the birds head grips on the NAA with oversized ones.) I ended up trading it for a second Ruger P95 (my first one was a gift - kind of a wedding gift from my grandfather in law - so I don't really want to carry it.) I had found that, with my build, etc. I could conceal a P95 in a belt slide holster as easily as a P11 in the FOBUS that I used for it. I feel much better carrying the P95. I still like Kel Tec products, though. I have a P3AT (rebuilt by the factory from a first gen into a brand new second gen free of charge under warranty) that I really like. Funny thing is that, even though it is smaller and lighter, I find that the trigger design for the P3AT makes it easier for me to shoot more accurately than the P11.

I tried using my Google-fu to see if I could help you find something. So far, the best I can come up with is this setup which allows a light to be mounted in a fore-end pistol grip. Maybe this could be made to work? http://www.mailitall.com/installation/ATI/FRG6300_instructions.pdf

My problem with buying practice FMJ online is that I generally don't buy in bulk so it isn't worth it, to me, to have to pay hazmat, shipping and handling, etc. Luckily, I can just make a little trip to Academy in Chattanooga (my wife and I generally find ourselves in Chattanooga every couple of months or so) and pick up a few boxes of Monarch FMJ for just under $10 each which probably works out to be a better deal, for me, than trying to order online. Wolf and Fiocchi FMJ are generally priced at $18 to $22 for a box of fifty in the LGS's in my area. Pretty ridiculous for a caliber that just a few years ago was cheap to feed but it is what it is. Thanks for the heads up about the Buffalo Bore ammo. I have read that the CZ-82 is a stronger design than most true Makarovs and that Czech service 9X18 ammo was loaded a good bit hotter than most other 9X18 and probably hotter than most Makarovs could consistently handle. My only hesitation is that I wonder what Buffalo Bore means by "+P" and if there really is a SAAMI designation for +P in 9X18. I know that Buffalo Bore makes some .380 ammo that they claim is '+P' even though there is technically no such thing as +P in .380. Still, it would probably be worth ordering a box or two just to try it out and I appreciate the info. To this point, the only Buffalo Bore ammo I have tried is their 180 grain hardcast in .357 Magnum which they say is loaded to 'standard' pressures. I actually managed to find a box of that at Sportsman's Warehouse in Chattanooga. SW stocks a few types of BB ammo but I have never seen any 9X18 there or, in fact, any 9X18 JHP of any type. I've got the owner of my LGS on the lookout for some 9X18 JHP for me. I told him that I wouldn't mind trying the Hornady stuff or even the JHP made my Silver Bear. If he can't find any or I don't like the way it performs, I will definitely have to check into the Buffalo Bore.

Theif Steals Your Car and Causes Harm - Now You Can Be Held Responsible
JAB replied to waynesan's topic in General Chat
This is NOT like leaving a gun where a child can have access to it. Instead, this is like leaving your tool shed unlocked then being held liable when someone illegally enters your tool shed, steals an axe and uses that axe to murder someone else. Leaving your keys in your car is no more 'giving permission' for someone to steal it than leaving your suitcase unlocked gives permission for someone else to wear your underwear. The whole idea that one person is responsible when another party steals their property and uses it to commit a crime is a symptom of what is wrong with this country - nothing can ever be solely the fault of a criminal who is engaged in a criminal act. Someone else - society, the victim, someone, must always share the blame. I say put the blame where it lies, solely on the car thief, and quit trying to blame the victim - the person whose car was stolen. -
There is a recent thread about hiding serial numbers when posting pics of firearms. Some don't see the sense in it while others (like me) figure, "Why not?" Well, I saw a post in another forum, today, that enlightened me to the fact that simply by posting the pic - or any pic - in the first place folks could be sharing information that is even more personal than a firearm's serial number. Worth a read, anyway: GPS Tracking Data in Photos Can Reveal Where You Live | GPS Fleet Tracking / GPS Fleet Tracking System / Green Fleet Management

I see some folks talking about how dumb the caribou was. I'd say the caribou was as smart as some humans. After all, the caribou's mistakes were, as far as I can tell, pretty much the same as Timothy Treadwell's: 1. Being around hungry grizzlies without adequate defenses while at the same time 2. being made of food (meat.) Following the bear into the river/stream where she could drown him simply by hanging on and weighing his head down to keep it under water wasn't the brightest idea, either. Had she latched on while they were on dry ground he might have shaken her but once she started forcing his nose under water he just got progressively weaker until the grizzly prevailed.

I don't have a C&R but I do have a CZ-82. I have a P3AT, a Taurus-made Rossi .357 snub and a Ruger P95 that all carry well and take turns as primary, depending on where I am going, how I am dressed, etc. That said, as soon as I get ahold of some decent JHPs for my CZ-82 I am adding it to my carry options. For me, it points easily, feels good in my hand and is very accurate (if I am even remotely doing my part, it almost seems difficult to miss with that thing.) I like that it has a 12 round magazine while fitting in between my P95 and my P3AT with regard to size and bulk while having a higher capacity than my .357 (although I still have a soft spot for wheel guns.) I also like that, being a 'commie' gun, I have no qualms about firing steel cased ammo in it. FMJ in 9X18 has gone up in price at the LGS's in my area in the last couple of years but Academy sells their Monarch brand - which in 9X18 is steel cased - for just under ten bucks for a box of fifty. In both my mom's CZ-82 and mine the Monarch stuff has been just as accurate as Wolf, etc. - which is to say pretty darned accurate.
-
Nice. I haven't gotten one for my P3AT, yet but my mom has the similar 10 rounder for her P32. I don't think I'd want to carry it in the pistol but it would make a pretty good backup mag, sometimes. It certainly does a lot to stabilize the grip on these little fellers.

Couldn't have been that long after the outbreak started. Remember, the power went out while Shane was trying to get Rick out which would have been the start of the outbreak. Even if his IV kept dripping without the machine working, that bag couldn't have lasted past the end of that day. Rick probably wouldn't have survived very long without taking in any fluids, even in a completely immobile state, so it couldn't have been more than a few days after the outbreak started. Unless, of course, the writers didn't think of that.

Personally, I have suspected all along that there was more than just a little truth in that. After all, the Radnor Lake incident took place after handgun carry in parks was made legal so what could he have really been trying to gain? All it did was say, "This new law actually allows people to legally carry AK-47 pistols slung on their shoulders." If the incident had any impact on the law, the only impact I can fathom would be for the general public to be scared upon becoming aware of that fact and start up a general outcry to reverse the law. IOW, I believe that only a staunch anti would have anything to gain politically by pulling that crap. The best we can say about him, then, is that he is simply an attention seeking moron who doesn't care if his actions negatively impact gun carry rights as a whole. I just hope that people who continue to defend his actions based on the mistaken notion that he is some kind of patriotic defender of Second Amendment rights will read that thread and see his statement:

I wasn't commenting on whether or not those remarks should be made. Instead, I was saying, "So their catty remarks went public. Big deal." And my thought on that is, "What military info would a young private and a silly website be able to get ahold of from documents that are classified, not top secret, simply classified that wouldn't already be common knowledge in the international espionage community and that the other countries that matter wouldn't already know?" Had it been top secret info that was released then this might deserve all the hoopla but it wasn't. In other words, once again, big deal. Yeah, the Private in this incident should be punished. It appears that he went against his duty and the confidence vested in him. Should he be shot? Nah. Should he spend a few years in a military prison and be dishonorably discharged? Yeah.

Remember how Daryl said that Merle would be "taking some vengeance back to the camp," when they realized that the truck was gone? Remember how after the zombie attack on the camp Daryl said that they, "had it coming," or something along those lines, for what they did to Merle? Somehow, it just keeps occurring to me that Merle may have somehow been responsible for the attack on the camp - as in he might even have somehow managed to load that delivery truck up with walkers and deliver them to the camp. It just seems like too much of a coincidence, to me, that Rick and the others would be running back to camp for fear of what Merle was going to do only to arrive in camp in the middle of the zombie fight. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but I don't think so.
-
POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT: Well, I haven't read the comics but I have read a synopsis of them online. In the comics, Lori was pregnant with and gave birth to a little girl that might be Rick's or might be Shane's. My bet is that the blood tests revealed her pregnancy to Jenner. He probably figured it was more harm than good to tell them when he intended for them to die with him as it could only hurt them more. Once he saw that they intended to live, he probably thought Rick should know. Of course, he'd have no reason to suspect that the baby might not be Rick's.

I hadn't heard that but was actually wondering about the 'charge' from the moment I first heard about it. After all, aren't men in Sweden expected to sit down when they pee because peeing while standing up is sexist? (No, I am not making this up) Absolutely potty | Spectator, The | Find Articles at BNET An excerpted line, for educational/illustrative purposes: Unless I am mistaken, there were actually attempts a few years back to pass a law which would legally require men to sit while urinating. So, while I place rape amongst the most dispicable of crimes, I would also have to hear exactly what this guy supposedly did before being ready to break out the rope. Heck, for all I know the rape charge comes from breaking some Swedish law requiring him to clean the woman's apartment and bake her a cake after engaging in consensual sex.
