The Ruger American gen 1 is definitely off the table. I have heard that they are quite accurate, but, like you said, I've also heard about the feeding problems. The jury is still out on the Gen II. I do care about the action. The smoothness is important to me, but most actions can be smoothed up. Most important of course is reliability in feeding and extraction, followed by accuracy. To answer your question, I haven't really settled on a budget yet, but I can't go overboard since I'm kind of "gunned out" this year already. It'd be nice to have an accurized barreled action with the smoothness of a Krag Jorgensen and the reliability I've always had from a Ruger M77 action. I might have to open up a little bit and start looking at the Tikkas and some others. And I might just revisit my options with the Ruger M77. I don't often hear "Ruger M77" and "utmost accuracy" in the same sentence, but you never know.

Well I don't know if I know you, but HOWDY

Right now I'm running a Ruger Gunsite Scout in .308. It has the 16" barrel on it with a Leupold Scout scope. If it had the 18" barrel I probably wouldn't be looking around because I love the Ruger M77 action. I'm thinking about finding a .308 bolt gun in a longer barrel length that still uses the AICS pattern magazines. Something reasonable. .308 is not exactly a barrel burner, so I want a little more barrel length for the sake of velocity. I love the scout in the woods, but I'd like to be able to do a little longer range target shooting at some point, although any rifle will have to do double duty for target shooting and primarily for hunting. I've been looking at the Bergara rifles, but a lot of them are too heavy for lugging around in the woods all day, or too expensive, or both. I've been eying the new Remington 700 Magpul Enhanced, but I don't know if Remington's quality has climbed back up out of the gutter or not. I've also been checking out the Savage 110 Tactical. And, somebody recommended the Ruger American Gen II, but I have yet to handle one. I wish there was such a thing as a highly accurate rifle with a medium contour fluted barrel with backup iron sights on it (cause I'm old fashioned), but dreams don't often come true. I'm sticking with .308, or maybe .30-06, because I don't want to have to go through the trouble and expense of re-tooling everything for a different caliber. Otherwise I would LOVE to go back to a .270. Any suggestions?

Colt Combat Commander .45ACP Model O4940XE Bought this brand new at Tennessee Gun Country. It's had a little over 300 rounds through it. To be completely upfront about this, I did have problems out of it when I first got it. There were malfunctions in the form of failures to feed and erratic ejection. I contacted Colt customer service and sent it in to the factory on January 8. Figured since it was a brand new gun, they can fix it. I just got it back from them. They adjusted the extractor and adjusted the feed ramp. I can see where they worked on the feed ramp, which I had thought was at least part of the problem. I took it to the house and fired two full magazines through it using the Colt factory magazine and 230 grain ball ammo and there were no hiccups whatsoever, so they did actually fix it. I kind of hate to get rid of it because it is a good feeling and very accurate gun, but I had gotten mad about this and decided to move back to Sigs. SPM. Comes with case, manual, and the single supplied Colt factory magazine. Can meet in Erin or the surrounding area within a reasonable (to me) distance.

Speaking of soundtracks - Last Man Standing with Bruce Willis. I tend to like old mob-ish movies, even if they are hollywooded up. Like me some old private eye movies too.

I bought some DryShod boots, supposedly made by the former owner of Muck boots. These are rated to 50 below......and that is a bald faced lie. They're ok down around 30 degrees but in this weather lately you'd better keep wiggling them toes to keep your feet warm. These things are a horrible waste of money. So I'm really no help at all here except to recommend what NOT to buy.

That reminds me of Sicario. One of my favorites.....except for that woman playing the arrogant, bullheaded, whiney fbi agent. The movie was great but would have been better without that character. So back to the point, I can also recommend the Equalizer with Denzel. And, if you really need something to do, I can always recommend the endless supply of good old fashioned westerns.
