  1. The stupid is strong with folks nowadays, no?
  2. Yep. Seemed like a smart thing to do. I would not be surprised if someone actually did that.
  3. I've had this happen before as well. When they offer to do a cashier's check through the Bank of Nowhere and send their "agent" by to complete the transaction, I tell them "sure, just don't plan on getting your agent back." Never hear from them after that.
  4. I see what you mean now. I'll see if he won't take a couple of pictures of his and send them to me. I forget how his worked. I'd hate to touch off that world of hurt with just one screw holding.
  5. If I'm not badly mistaken, you can mount a scope to your BFR. My boss has one in 460. He took the scope mount from his Ruger Super Blackhawk and put it on the BFR. I'd have to look at it again, but I seem to remember that it replaces the rear sight mount.

I think it's still that way today. CCI seems to be harder than the rest. And they sure haven't lightened up on the springs at Smith.

I'm about to take it to my gunsmith in Dover. We tried to test the pull. The gauge tops out somewhere around 14, and it is somewhere over that.

This is the first attempt I've made at doing that. Made this for a guy here. Slide the flap up under the belt and snap. When you unsnap, it unfolds to allow you to pull the bottom one out, then the top one. I think there's a few things I might do differently on the next one. I also made the holster in the picture with the wheel guns and it was my first attempt at a holster, so I hope I can improve things from here. ETA: Regarding the moon clips, the ones from Smith do seem fragile. I'll see how they hold up. I may order some from another company, or I might just get some 7 round speed loaders.

Well, see, when I hold or carry both of them, well, the problem with walking straight is not on the sides.

I need to make a speed strip pouch pretty soon. I carry moon clips for the 686 and some speed strips.

    Yessir.
  12. That should be on his business cards from now on.

Finally got my 640 in. Went ahead and put Pachmayrs on both the 640 and the 686PC. Now I just need to make a good holster for the 640 and go shoot. Somehow I feel a little more gooder now.
  14. Yep, it arrived as promised on March 24. They had sent me an email letting me know they had received it in the shop on February 14, I had shipped it off a week or two before that, I don't remember the date. Been so busy lately I haven't had a chance to go try it out. They had estimated about a month turn around time, took a bit longer. No worries, I'm glad it's back home.
  15. Where do you come up with 11 days? The gun (the Model 60) was purchased on February 13, and it wasn't dropped off at the store - it never left the store with me. I had them send it back right then. Figured I'd better not leave with it. Unless you're referring to the 686 that was scheduled to arrive on March 24. I shipped it from home sometime around the first week of February, and it arrived back home on March 24. But I sure do WISH either one had taken just 11 days.
  16. Well, just a few days ago I called Dave and he still hadn't heard anything from Smith. Thought about that and decided I'd had enough. Called him back the next day and told him to tell Smith how ridiculous this was. I told him I didn't have a problem with Smith taking a while doing the recall on my old 686-1 (it's been about two months and should be delivered on Friday 3/24), but that one would think they would fast track the resolution of a brand new gun that was screwed up. I just told him to let them know how disgusted I am, and to cancel the Model 60 and instead send a 640, hopefully one that's actually been quality inspected. I'll see how that works out. It's a strange thing. Looking back on it, there was some kind of gut feeling there giving me a bad vibe about ordering this 60 in this particular case. Felt like I should have ordered the 640 instead, but plowed ahead. Then this happens. I'm sure I'll get around to getting a 60 one day, just not that particular one.
  17. Why, yes, yes I did.
  18. My guess was going to be something in the striker channel, but since you've already detailed it, the only thing I can think of is a possible bad primer.
  19. I reckon I have to say yes it is. Unfortunately for me I have to carry a G23 at work, probably my least favorite gun, and it's not even mine. But when I'm off work I, without any thought or decision making necessary, strap on my favorite, which is my go-to, my Smith 686 PC 2.5. Ohhhh my!.............................
  20. Most of the hot ones are.
  21. Looks like a good switch operator to me.
  22. Thanks Dave. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with the dealer at all, which is Tennessee Gun Country, especially if I just deal with Dave, Tim, or Richard. They've always done right by me. Matter of fact, I never got the gun out of the store. Soon as I took it out of the box and we discovered it, Dave was immediately on the phone with Smith. Like I said, I have the impression that the guy at Smith wasn't too happy about something like that slipping by QC. I was happy with their CS a few weeks ago when I called them about the recall on my old 686. The guy checked the serial number in the system, determined that it had not been taken care of on that one, and emailed me a shipping label right then. I know this one will be made right as well. The reason I titled the thread as "disappointment" is that even at 48 years old it's hard to keep myself from feeling like a kid at Christmas when I'm going to pick up my brand spankin new shoot'n arn, then get there and my balloon gets popped. But I have to remind myself that every single gun maker that's ever been in business has had something happen at some time or other.
  23. I agree. I think it'll be correct or "better than" when it gets back. I'm under the impression the S&W rep wasn't real happy about that slipping by QC. On the other hand, it was destined for a trip to the gunsmith in Dover before I ever ordered it. He'll be getting the 60 and my old 686-1 to work his magic on. Not sure what all he does, but it ain't nothin but sweetness when it leaves his shop.
  24. We were too. I'll be glad when it gets done and my packin' pair will be complete (after I make a holster for it).
