I'll be out in the morning. Told the family I'll just meet them up at the church. Got up at 3:30 this morning and checked outside, saw that it was indeed windy, and went back to bed. Taking a few days off this coming week to hunt. Hopefully it'll be worth it.

I confirm every year. Years ago I was using an aught six with a dang tasco scope on it. Killed some deer with it one year, then put it up in a hard sided case in the closet. Never got bumped or anything, stayed safely tucked away. Next year I took it straight to the woods without confirming zero. Couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from the inside. I remember getting so mad I removed the scope and destroyed it. I've confirmed zero every year since.

Bersaguy, I really wanted to extend condolences to you when you posted that. I could not bring myself to type it in. I think it was because I knew this was coming. Thank you all. It is very much appreciated.

I think Rosco might have been the best friend I've ever had, and he was just a little firecracker of black and brindle colored happiness. No one knew where he came from. No one knew how old he was. No one knew what breed he was. And it never mattered. He was probably at least 2 or 3 years old when he came to us around 10 or 11 years ago. He passed away this morning. I guess the neighbors may have wondered today why a 49 year old man was out in the back yard sobbing. But I ain't ashamed of it. Because I dearly loved that little feller, and I ain't ashamed of that either. My boys came home and helped me give him the proper and respectful burial he deserved right here at home. I have absolutely no complaints about him. He was one of the greatest blessings that God has ever given me. In the words of men from long ago that I have great admiration for: He would do to ride the river with. Rosco was faithful and true, and he will be forever missed and loved.

Constant companions..............

Those are nicely detailed. I hope to get that good with the tooling one day. All of your posts definitely appeal to my old school heart. Every time you post something up like this I jump on it and soak it up. I'm not exactly sure why, but it sort of gives me the impression of reading something from Skeeter Skelton or Elmer Keith. I think you just need to write a book and mail me the first copy. I've been thankful you've come aboard sir. -
Oh by the way Murgatroy, you're wrong. I'm not sure what you're wrong about, but you're wrong.

I carry a full size Beretta 92 during my off time. I'm about 5'10" and about 210 and I have no problem with this one. Used to carry a full size 1911 too. Right now I'd concentrate on getting the HCP, then find your groove on which gun has the mojo for you. You shouldn't have a problem packing what you have now, then you can go try a bunch of them out and see what you like. Lots of good choices out there. Glock, Springfield, Beretta, Smith, Sig on an on.

I have the 686PC. It is very smooth and very nice. But, I was able to trade into it so I was not out for the full fare. I also have an early 686 (686-1) and it is very sweet. Personally, while I do really like the PC, I'm not sure it feels any better than my old one. Plus, I know a good gunsmith who loves revolvers. He can REALLY slick up a Smith. If I ever do get around to buying another wheel, I'll get the standard model and take it to him. Of course, with what people are asking for their old Smiths, you could almost get a PC. All that said, I do like the way the PC guns look though.

That first picture of the Blackhawk/Bisley is as durn near perfection as I've seen. The rest are some real prizes too.

Yeah I should've included that particular part of the point. I meant that people think they just HAVE to use something because they think someone else has made it "cool" and not for their own reasons. That being said, the testing and torture that a gun can endure in the mil is astronomical. I have to admit that it's one of the reasons the 92 does appeal to me. WIth the torture, torment, lack of maintenance, lack of parts replacement, lack of lubrication, (and did I mention living hell?) that certain guns have endured and, for the most part, keep on trucking, well that is confidence inspiring.

Alright CJ, let's try this. You don't like Glocks, probably don't like anything about them. You probably don't like the way they look, the way they feel, or the way they shoot. You will probably never buy one. And I'm guessing it's because you don't think it's the right gun for you (and there ain't one thing wrong with that). BUT, you ARE curious as to what draws people to them, correct? Should you have stated that up front a little more clearly? Well, maybe. BUT, I'm the knothead who likes to read between the lines and I figured all that out from the get-go. So, what draws people to Glock is, again, reliability, ease of operation, easy parts availability, easy customization, "it's what LE uses, or what .mil uses," "it's what some of the bearded high speed low drag guys use," OR - they just happen to be what some folks like. AND, let's face it, some people are drawn to them because that's what "other people" like. Reliability: Like I said earlier, for the most part they have proven to be reliable. Again, I have used them in one capacity or other for over 20 years, and I am a Glock armorer as well, and I don't believe, nor would I say, that they are the last word in reliability. For example, if I didn't know that my 92FS had been as reliable, I wouldn't depend on it. And with some of the JUNK that's still produced out there today, the guns that have established a reputation for reliability deserve a continued place at the dinner table, even if they are Glocks. Ease of operation: The fact that there is virtually nothing to fool with externally has always been a selling point for some. Good, Bad, Ugly? That's up to each end user. Easy parts availability: Thanks to Glock's MASSIVE marketing effort over the years, the guns and the parts are everywhere. You can go into just about any gun store and find mags and parts for Glocks. That is also one of their selling points. ME? I ordered parts for the 92 from Wilson, Beretta, and Wolff, and mags from Grabagun, and just waited a few days. No big deal either way for me. Easy customization: Almost everywhere offers some form of customization for Glocks, and I'm sure it's because of their popularity. And there's tons of videos out there on customizing you can do yourself. So far, I like doing all the work on my own guns after I study long enough to figure out what the heck I'm doing. But, that's not some people's cup of tea. "It's what LE uses or .mil uses": That, for me, never has been the biggest selling point. But it has been one of their selling points. I can see the point of view there as far as logistics are concerned. After all, those same kind of logistics have helped the legions of Beretta owners over the years. Makes sense that if a particular brand/model is in broad use by LE, military, or gub-mint, then there's probably going to be a larger supportive manufacturing base and product R&D to follow, probably translating into more "stuff" available. That said, I'll keep using my Marlin Texan. "It's what the 'cool kids' use": That has it's own set of problems for me, because I've always had a desire to go against the grain when it comes to popularity. But, let's face it, if the cool kids use it, then there will be people out there who will proclaim that nothing else will do. Which brings me to the final item on that list: It's just what some folks like. Buy and use what fits and works for you and you alone. There are people (yes, yes there are) who will try to sway other folks' opinion based on what they themselves want. And some of those are even arrogant enough to really believe that everyone else should use and do what they themselves use and do. Now Glocks seem to fit some people just right. They never have fit me just exactly right, they never have slinked into my hand like a 92 or a CZ, but I always worked around that. But I never have tried to tell someone else what they need. To me, every last one of these points I've made here are completely dependent on whether or not each point appeals to you. These points are simply my opinion on what has made Glock so popular. The reason I made the point about being able to abuse and neglect Glocks is not the fact that my Beretta can't handle it. It's because I care too much about the Beretta to do that. That, for me, would be one of the selling points of the Glock, and the reason that I might well own another one. The fact appeals to me that none of the MANY Glocks I've owned over the years have held a special place in my heart. I can place it on the shelf or in the truck right next to my Estwing hammer and not have deep feelings for it, since Glocks only occupy the position of a tool - FOR ME. Others' mileage can and does vary. At the end of the day, my Stepfather drives a Chevy 4x4, a good friend of mine drives an F250, another drives a Dodge, and yet another drives a Jeep. I don't berate them and tell them they are wrong because they don't drive a Toyota Tundra. Each one of us makes our choice based on what appeals to our sense of value, reliability, and usefulness. And no one tells us what to use to meet our needs. You're in the same boat. Hope that helps.

Don't worry about offending. I think we know that's not your intention. Some on here probably like Ford, Dodge, or Chevy trucks and I like Toyota. That's why they make different guns. Personally I am taking a hiatus from Glocks. I've been running them at work and at home for over 20 years. May give them another shot one day, but not right now. In fact, I had set two G19s up for myself, then turned around and gave both of them to my son. Right now I'm running a Beretta 92 when I'm off work, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. That said, the Glocks, while not the absolute perfection that Gaston and the factory parrots would have us believe, are generally very reliable. I think that's always been the appeal. It has been proven that they will take abuse and neglect and keep wagging their tail. I have seen and had some bobbles over the years with the Glocks chambered in .40S&W (cursed be it's name forevermore), but I never have with the 9mm versions. I'm sure it's happened, as anything man made can fail, but we do know the reliability is there. Just like anything else, each one has his/her preference. Nothing wrong with em at all, unless it just doesn't fit you personally. And that requirement is one that I have always believed to be very important.

I'd say shoot it some over the next couple weeks and get the RMR dialed in, then take it out and break it in right on a nice buck on November 18.

Really!?! We welcome you into our home and you feel compelled to give us a major case of jealousy?!? Nice piece and well done! That will probably give several lifetimes of enjoyment.

I seriously doubt most of them work. After all, the antifa organization itself is comprised of modern day communists who believe in the communist mantra, which, translated into real life is lived out as "take from those who will and give to those who won't." I don't know if anything will come of that date, but I am very wary of that "organization" and others like it. Future performance can often be predicted by past actions, and these people have consistently shown a propensity for violence and destruction.

Yeah, that dang Cuban missile crisis. For a big part of my life I thought he did a good job at that. Until I talked to a dear friend of mine who was actually there. Geez! Talk about a close call for the purpose of political gain!

Ha! Not saying she wasn't hot, but from what I've read over the years one could have a cleaner ride in an 1800's cathouse before the advent of "safety gear." On the other note, I had always heard that the "war machine" angle was part of the equation. I seem to remember one of our forefathers issuing a warning to beware the military - industrial complex. Personally I doubt much of anything significant will be "revealed" by the release of this material. I may be surprised though.

It's for sure that someone somewhere at some time knows/knew the truth. Not that we ever will. I've always thought that LBJ caused the demise of JFK, but I don't know if LHO was on the roll with the boys on the grassy knoll. The thing I've always wondered is why he would cheat on a beautiful lady like Jackie Kennedy with that bleach blond skank.

And oh how the leftists would love for us to BECOME Europe! All this has absolutely NOTHING to do with "safety." It has everything to do with the fact that the second amendment is a threat to their power and ideology.

That's uhh....wow.. uh..geeeez! I'm backing away slowly from the picture......

I won't turn on anything to do with the nfl. I was already pretty much done with it, but that "social equality" stunt was the last straw for me. The other "professional" sports are just as bad. It is a slap in the face to all of those honored souls throughout the generations who have fought and died for our freedom. These pieces of bovine scattology need to realize that it is because of the freedom they are allowed in THIS country that they are able to make tens of millions of dollars per year while playing with a ball. They need to leave and go try this crap in places like China, Sudan, Iran, etc and see how long they last. It is WAY past time for the American people to take a stand and refuse to pay out ANY money supporting these fools.
