What AK-47 7.62x39 magazine do you use and why?
ttocswob replied to swim615's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Romainian & Bulgarian, surplus steel. Thermold polymer - cheap but all work 100% Had one Tapco, too tight for my magwell. Donated to the Smuggler. -
"Living by the sword" in the Biblical context refers to the shedding of blood for fun and profit, not to carry for defense. But, just like guns, context is apparently a foreigh concept to the good pastor.

Lance Kilkenny BTW, how'd you make a list of fictional gunfighters without a Louis L'Amour character? (Edit: I missed "The Quick and the Dead", my bad)

Got one 2-3 years ago, later traded to a family member. A Century build from Centerfire Systems with the folding stock. More accurate offhand than my Romy AK. Mags aren't a big issue, as they may be topped off from stripper clips while in the rifle. The bolt is slotted for the clip, similar to loading a SKS.

You mean Remington sells .22LR that's NOT defective?!

Half a million? That's not nearly enough to hold all the Tea Party types...

I like painting the front sight white, followed by flourescent orange. Really stands out.

You sir, win Thread Title of the Year. And I'm still using an iron pot on my turkey fryer, so a little technical for me. -
Unloading a Muzzleloader without firing it
ttocswob replied to rugerla1's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I bought two CVA's a couple of years ago at the 127 sale. Both were loaded. Cleared the in-line ok, bore was shiny new. The Bobcat, on the other hand - 3+ inches of ramrod indicated the a double load, no breech plug, of course. I pulled the first bullet, but broke an extractor in the other. So I flushed out the charge with water, let it dry, poured in a small charge of BP through the flash hole, and shot the whole mess out. Ended up with 2 functional smoke poles for cheap. :) -
And save those livers! Better than chicken!

This is why Midway will never get my biz again!!!!!
ttocswob replied to serbu50's topic in General Chat
I've bought a LOT of stuff from Midway, with no real complaints. Stuff's usually here in 2-3 days, Yes shipping is billed separately on backorders, so I don't backorder. And stuff like lubricants, solvents, ORM-D stuff can't go thru the USPS, so shipping is a little more. Lee sizer dies come with Alox, so no USPS there either. And no more C&R discount. BTW, Larry just mailed me a Bushnell BDC 3x9x40 scope for $81 - free shipping. YMMV -
Ggot one, no complaints.

I once earned $2.35 an hour using one of these things. And stocking shelves, pushing a broom, loading drink machines. Before "paper or plastic."

Keep Brandon Webb off the NRA Board of Directors

OP: how? Aside from the "voting member" issue, there's no real way to vote against someone. -
From my limited experience: Hornady 158g XTP's are hard to beat. Factory rounds averaged 1264 fps from my 6" Dan Wesson. 16.5 grains of H110 with Win magnum primers will pretty much duplicate the factory round. Max charge is 16.7 so weigh carefully. 2400 or Blue Dot can yield similar performance with a smaller charge. I've not used 2400 much. Blue Dot seems happy in my 6" barrel, but leaves unburned powder flakes in anything shorter. Oddly, it gains only a little more velocity from my rifle barrels.

Update: Just received my .50 can from Ammoman - Black Friday special. Looks to be mostly gray steelcase, some green steelcase, a mix of FMJ and HP, and about 5-10% reloadable brass! All in a new .50 cal steel can, complete with TN tax stamp. About $0.17 a round. :) Got some sorting to do...(Edit) and counting...:( Actual count 584 rounds, about 22% short of their advertizement. Or about $0.22 per round.I've yet to buy loose ammo from anyone and not get shortchanged. They also said no guarantee - but I sent a nice e-mail just the same. Not as much brass as I thought, either - most of it was in the first of 3 bags. 18 rounds total Caveat emptor

The .357 didn't last. I actually made it to the screen showing "2" in stock, but the page crashed when I tried to put it in my cart. I did get a can of 7.62x39 with shipping confirmation.

My limited experience was with 115g Berry's plated in 9mm. I followed the "cast bullet" advice which resulted in poor accuracy. I later read that loads should be more in line with jacketed bullet data than cast. YMMV

Third book out today thru Thursday. I read EFaD and started DE yesterday. Good stuff. Think Clancy in his prime.

PS - my little excursion (or is that incursion?) did make the cut at Sipsey. Held up on this post as I was entertaining thoughts of tossing a pickup truck load of barricades over the nearest bridge. That is, if the "shutdown" continued - doesn't matter now.

Answer: no one! About what I expected, too. Went overnight sans backcountry permit, built a campfire and everything. Never saw a soul until I reached the takeout this afternoon. NPS had one laminated paper "closed" sign, and some red ribbon which was already cut. No signage whatsoever at the entry point. Did catch a few small fry. After 6 miles of water and rocks (mostly the latter) I'm ready for bed.

...and I'm soooooo tempted to take my banjo.

Just spoke with a 'knowledgable source' who says BSF rangers are doing just enough to say it's closed. Not aware of patrols, citations, or arrests. I've only seen "closed" signs, sawhorse barricades and ribbon. Bathrooms are locked, but no shortage of trees. Only a couple hours more...
