  1. My recent experience with the locals was not so friendly. I'll post about it sometime. Anyway, I'll never inform again until asked to do so.
  2. Major developments: L.A. Times: White House received e-mails about Fast and Furious. CBS News: Cover-up in ATF gunwalker case? In the latter, U.S. attorneys, "contemplated the connection between the two cases and sought to prevent the connection from being disclosed." EDIT: Take time to read the Issa/Grassley letter (PDF!) to the current acting US Atty for Arizona - strong stuff.
  3. ATF actor Kenneth Melson reassigned to DOJ, US Atty Dennis Burke gets sick and resigns. Details at Fox & cBS Confederate Yankee has more. Burke was the a$$wh...lawyer who denied victim status to Brian Terry's family.

    ISSC M22

From Carteach0, who makes some good points on its usefulness as a trainer: ISSC M-22 Review of Glock-like Trainer More M-22 Torture Testing I bought a used one earlier this year - somewhat finicky, but mine likes Golden Bullet for some reason.
  5. Got one for my wife, and the companion Bobcat .22LR. She has arthritis, and the tip up barrel eliminates the need to rack the slide. Also you can immediately and visibly clear the pistol simply by releasing the barrel catch and dumping the chambered round. SA/DA blowback, may also be carried cocked and locked. I've read some reports of cracked frames in the earlier Tomcats, but I think this was fixed before the Inox came out. The pistol does not have an extractor, and depends totally on blowback to clear the chamber. Brass tends to eject over your head and behind, might put brass in your face if fired from belly position. So far, the .32 is jam-free, and only a few hang-ups in the .22 - none at the last session, seems to be broken in now. Great little pocket pistol, IMO.
  6. T.C.A. (LexisNexis tncode)
  7. ATF Federal Firearms Licensee (PDF Alert!) The info you want is on page 2. Short version: notify the Chief (!) FFLC, by letter to 244 Needy Road (!) Martinsburg, WV 25405. Also requires ATF Form 5300.38
  8. Since I just traded for an LCR 357, I'll weigh in: I fired a total of 50 rounds, 35 .38's and 15 .357's. I shot to point of aim with the .38's at 7 yds, bullseye to 8 ring on a TGO target. Excellent compared to my old S&W Model 36, whose sight picture is still a complete mystery. With the .357's I was fortunate to (mostly) stay on paper. I also tried 3 different brands .357. First, 5 rounds of 125 grain PMC, brass case. Cases stuck, so hard that it took several raps on the extractor rod, just to get the cases out far enough to extract by hand. Next up was Fiocchi 158 grain XTP, nickel case. They stuck too, but not quite as bad. Recoil on these was pretty sharp. Last, Speer's 135 grain Gold Dot, nickel - a little milder, cases still tight but extracted cleanly. I can't really blame the stuck cases on the .38's 'ring' as I only fired 5 rounds before proceeding to the .357's I really like the LCR, but I'll carry it with .38's for now.
  9. IIRC, one report that I read basically said that the 7.62 round recovered from Agent Terry's body was too fragmented to conclusively trace to a specific firearm. Dave, if you want to exonerate the gun runners on that basis, more power to you.
  10. Hate to point this out, but... The perp now knows her vehicle, and what is in the console. Hopefully she follows up on her regrets, and changes her M.O. - where she carries, when and where she shops, etc.
  11. 2 or more handguns in a 5 day period are reported to ATF, per the Gun Control Act of 1968. There is no statute authorizing similar reporting of rifles or shotguns. The current ATF requirement is unlawful.
  12. How do you look those poor taters right in the eyes before mercilessly skinning them alive, and tossing those nutritious peels into the garbage disposal to be ground into smithereens?...Oh, tater tots are made in a factory...nevermind.
  13. ATF promotes supervisors in controversial gun operation. L.A. Times(!) William McMahon, William Newell, and David Voth all promoted to a higher level of incompetence. Brian Terry is still dead.
  14. If any instructor refuses assistance on the written portion, introduce them to the Americans with Disabilities Act. As long as the .22 works for her, use it to qualify for the HCP. Self defense calibers can come later. As well as she did on the paper plate, hitting 70% on a B27 target should be a piece of cake. Range test is more than just hitting the target - make sure she can operate the gun, load and change magazines, etc. Get the HCP as soon as possible - before/just in case her vision gets any worse. Once qualified, all you have to do is send TN more money every 5 years. Even a totally blind person could shoot an attacker at contact distance. And I admire your friend in taking responsibility for her own safety. You guys who are more concerned about liability than life - why, exactly, do you carry?
  15. You may find this post interesting: BP Revolver Chronography Not as much difference between FF & FFF as you might expect, at least in Pyrodex. Real black powder is actually a bit cleaner, if you can find it - pricier, too! Congrats - that Uberti is a nice gun.
  16. IMO, .22 CB's or subsonics with a well-placed shot will terminate the groundhog as that range, and in a .22 rifle, the CB's are quieter than an air rifle.
  17. Tennessee Constitution Article XI Section 13: IMO the new hog regulations are a clear violation of the "Right to hunt and fish" amendment passed last year. "Traditional manners and means" are now denied to those taking the non-threatened wild hog. They changed from "We want you to kill as many hogs as you can" to "Eliminate hog hunting" in one year. Is this reasonable?
  18. 24 pints of salsa over the weekend. Pears will be ripe in 1-2 weeks. I slice and dehydrate as many as possible. Delicious! And they keep for years at room temp in a ziploc bag.
  19. In case you haven't heard: Catoosa closed until further notice. But, if and when it reopens: Designated campgrounds (.pdf) on Catoosa.
  20. To revise and extend my previous post (no, I'm not a politician!): I live in Fentress county, and have a couple hundred acres, more or less, in the family. I do not regularly hunt hogs, and at this time there are no hogs on our property, although they are fairly close. So I don't yet have a dog in this hunt, so to speak. Although I strongly disagree with TWRA's pig policy, I do not in any way condone the vandalism at Catoosa. But I do support those who have paid for the privilege of hunting in TN, only to lose hunting opportunity. There is a long tradition of hunting feral hogs in this area. I remember seeing, "Hunt the mountains of Tennessee with Joe Simpson" classifieds in Field and Stream, long before BSFNRRA. If TWRA can arbitrarily eliminate the hunting of feral pigs (feral in the US since the 1500's BTW), what's to stop them from extending this to any species? What's next, a ban on carp?! Restricting crows to Friday, Saturday, or Sunday? Oh, wait... I sure the new hog hunting ban will end the feral hog problem, since the sinus medicine ban has ended the meth epidemic. How's that one working out? Anyway, when feral pigs show up on my property, I don't plan to ask the goverment for their help, let alone their permission. I'll invite as many guests as I please. I may even open up a pig sanctuary, wouldn't that be a hoot? And those "Hunting by written permission only" signs will have to come down, since they give TWRA access to my property.
  21. TWRA arbitrarily banned hog hunting without public or hunter input. The unintended consequences: TWRA to Close Catoosa WMA for Safety Concerns I haven't bought my license this year. I'll probably just fish and hunt on my own land until they remember who they work for.
  22. NRA - Wayne's Commentary Minimizing Obama's Fast And Furious Scandal The lackeys in the lamestream media try to contain the damage.
  23. NRA - American Rifleman has an article on these in the last issue.
  24. Hey, I resemble that remark! BTW I never hike with my banjo. To the OP: I don't hike with a backpack, sometimes with a day pack and/or fanny pack. With the latter, an Uncle Mike's nylon holster on the belt works OK. I use a shoulder rig for the big revolver when hunting. And as suggested above, the drop-leg is one military inspired solution, as is the MOLLE. Bottom line - try any or all of the above with your gear, and find what works for you.
  25. Scott DesJarlais the only Republican member of the Tennessee congressional delegation to vote against default bill. WATE.com Also voted against the Reid Plan, as well as Cut, Cap, and Balance. (quote from press release, public domain)Starting to really like Dr. Scott.
