  1. Leading can be beneficial, as far as filling in some of the pitting. I would clean it thoroughly, once, then just enough to clear powder fouling after that. JMO
  2. Probably obvious, but (1) gloves - mine are insulated leather (2) eye protection. Turkey fryer, campstove, works good. I just use a Lee ladle. I'm only using Lee 2 bullet molds, though. I usually cast 300-400 before I tire out. I started with an old club aluminum saucepan for a pot. I've even used a tin can. I have a RCBS cast iron pot now, $12+ at Midway.
  3. BPE: Did you check more than one bullet? Not uncommon to have one end up in the wrong bin, so to speak. With powder, I like to weigh twice - lightly nudge the powder pan, and make sure it returns to the same weight. If bullet and charge weights are correct; then based on your cited load data, you are about 12% over maximum. I'd get that bullet puller. Been there, done that - once after loading 50 rounds of 9x18Mak, I realized my new Franklin digital scale was reading in grams, not grains. Forgot to reset after calibrating. That could'a been bad.
  4. I'm relatively new to reloading myself, but I've noticed that a given volume of powder tends to be a little lighter than advertised. I assumed it's a safety factor thing.
  5. Weston, welcome to TGO! And mentioning open carry around here is the equivalent of having a "kick me" sign on your back. And I wouldn't go around passing out literature indiscriminately, but it would be nice to have something like that for someone bold enough to ask. I think it's a good idea and worthy of discussion.
  6. Thus creating a de facto, and quite illegal gun registry. The database is there, and growing with every LEO stop. Anyone on the inside with a password and a little SQL-fu could retrieve such data. And the ATF and FBI have already manipulated the NCIS trace process to allow felons - 'scuse me, informants - to buy firearms for Mexicans. I'm sure they have a data interface ready and waiting for an executive order to implement. If you really want to keep it of the books, don't carry it. "That's my opinion; it oughtta be yours." - Mack Truck
  7. Might make you a target...
  8. Remington LR Subsonic are fairly quiet. CCI CB Shorts, on the other hand, are quieter than my air rifle. Handy to have around.
  9. Clear Fork - tributary of Big South Fork - has some nice sections. Gatewood Ford to Peters Ford - About 8 miles, and check the river gauge first - need about 200 cfps minimum. At 300 it's a fun paddle. Nice little funnel just above Peters Bridge. Peters Ford - Brewster Ford (Hwy 52) - About 6 miles, easy. Park boundary starts at Peters Bridge. Brewster Ford - Burnt Mill Ford - About 11 miles, worst part is the long gravel road to the take-out. Combine with Peters Ford section for a nice 1-2 nighter. Leave Brewster to Leatherwood (now on Big South Fork) for the pros - several class III's, even IV's at times. Leatherwood to Station Camp - About 8 miles. Angel Falls is the only concern - doesn't look like much, and the signs are usually washed out. It's a hydraulic that hold you and your canoe under long enough to drown. If you hear banjos you're not paddling fast enough.
  10. From Rep. Issa today, via Sipsey Street: Looks like the SKS, covered up by the FBI because it could easily trace to their informants, may indeed have been the murder weapon. The same informants' contracts were terminated by DEA and US Marshals because they were "stone cold killers." But this doesn't matter because the cartels would have gotten guns (and thugs) somewhere else.../sarc
  11. Do you really think it isn't? No the run of the mill LEO can't access the info, but I guarantee the alphabet agencies have people who can. Does any computer data ever go away? Fortunately in my case, we're only talking about 2-.22's, an air rifle, a muzzleloader, and a Mosin - also my Handi Rifle, the only FFL purchase in my truck at the time. All real crime guns there.../sarc
  12. Traffic lights? What are those?
  13. I alluded to this in another thread; now a little more detail. Last month, I was stopped by a local deputy; my taillights were out. I handed him my HCP. He asked if I had any guns; I answered, "a truckload." I was carrying my Ruger 22/45, I had a few rifles behind my seat from recent target shooting, and a muzzleloader I'd picked up at a yard sale. He asked me to step out, disarmed me, then frisked me. Then he wanted to see the other guns in my truck. I stopped informing at that point, (I had two other pistols in my bag.) He proceeded to call in the Ruger and all the rifles including the muzzleloader and an air rifle. So now several of my privately purchased guns are now logged in NICS. No ticket, just lost 30 min of my life, and all respect for the local SD. I will no longer inform until specifically asked for the HCP, then only minimally. And forget supporting my local sheriff.
  14. Yugo surp is corrosive BTW. I missed a spot around the gas port on my WASR and picked up a little surface rust there. Since then, I use a pipe cleaner w/ Hoppe's to detail clean the port, and all the little holes in the gas block. No problems since. Yugo surplus is good stuff.
  15. I've never attended a NFL game, only a few UT games, minor league baseball, etc. But the first time I'm searched will be my last public sporting event. Ever.
  16. I'm afraid it's a back door means of making "well regulated" mean what they want it to mean.
  17. The SSTF ranks right up there with Santa and the Tooth Fairy on the believability scale.
  18. The gun purchase is only an afterthought? I'm worried about you!
  19. Don't forget the 4th and 5th amendments... And when appropriate, name and shame the teacher - this crap needs to be stopped.
  20. FOX Got 'Em. Huge Gunwalker Story Breaking Later This Morning. Teaser per Mike Vanderboegh at Sipsey Street Irregulars, should be on Fox News at 9:00AM CDT. So far, Mike's sources have been spot-on. UPDATE: Not TV, on the web. Apparently a third F&F gun was recovered at the Terry murder scene. Allegedly this was concealed because the gun in question, a SKS from Texas, could be linked to an FBI informant within the cartel. 21. Self Defense - A Christian Viewpoint Footnote to the article: Marshall will be missed.
  22. Did this on my AK w/ collapsible m4 style stock: bought a piece of foam waterpipe insulation, and strapped it on with cable ties. Has held up well, about 1-1/2 years. Not sure about a wood stock, though, especially the cable ties. Maybe foam pad under an elastic butt-cuff? Anyway, trying something like this will help you better select a more permanent/expensive solution later.
  23. Olds, one thing about the Gangwalker case that is striking is the pattern of ATF/FBI/NICS authorizing multiple illegal sales, then issuing demand letters to the FFL's (or even subpoenas) because the FFL sold so many "crime guns." Similar stories were reported early on in gunwalker. This thing is long overdue for a special prosecutor, IMO. I wrote my own congresscritters to that effect today. And I just read where McCain, of all people, is calling for Senate hearings in the Homeland Security Committee, with Holder, Nappy, and Jones to testify under oath.
  24. I lost you at post hole diggers.....seriously! That's enough to make me give up on any project. They make power tools for that. Of course I'm the one whose dad bought a riding mower - the summer after I left for college.
  25. Mike V's key observation is that Chicago is the principal market for straw-purchased weapons from Indiana. JMHO: Look for the Mexican government to be toppled, followed by extreme interracial war in US cities, no later than early 2012. The thugOcracy will stop at nothing to stay in power.
