  1. Once upon a time, Old Yeller was a Disney movie.   Times -  and priorities - have changed.
  2. That's OK, since they're not making 9mm any longer.                     ...they're long enough already!  AF :)
  3. I swapped the rail on my 336 35 Remington for a set of sight thru rings, as the rail was blocking the open sights. Scope height ended up about the same. Makes for a versatile setup. Great for mist/fog, or just for that deer that walks right under your tree stand.   I also have sight thru rings on my muzzleloader. Same reason.
  4. Well, it's official - Cougars in Tennessee.
  5. We lynched a dummy in the oak tree by my uncle's barn one October night, long ago. Really looked convincing, too; hanging there in the fog next morning.   As we were admiring our handiwork, a neighbor drove by, and said, "They'll put you in jail for that!" He was laughing his head off.
  6. A corollary, from Captain's Journal, via Sipsey Street:   “There aren’t too many human interaction problems that can’t be fixed with a .45 ACP 230-grain fat-boy.” -- Herschel Smith.
  7. Only time I've seen Sportsman's Guide apply the "heavy" shipping charge on ammo is for 7.62x54r by the crate. Sometimes their free shipping code excludes ammo; not in this particular case.
  8. My dad has one of those in .22 S, L, LR. It's a beater, but was carried on many raccoon hunts.   Guns magazine had this article a couple of issues ago. Good read.
  9. Not every day, but every now and then - today being one of those days - LCR .357 in a Blackhawk OWB, loaded with .357 Magnum Golden Sabers.
  10. It would concern me that the perps were smart enough to not kill the goose, so to speak, by only using the van and not taking stuff. I would expect the youtes to gradually escalate /get bolder until caught or detected. Then they either (1) lay low until the heat's off; or (2) come back for the 'kill' - hopefully not literally.   Now that you're on to them, take every precaution you can.
  11. I got x-rays of my spine the other day. Along with all my pocket stuff, including my Kel-Tec. Chiropractor. Got adjusted. No questions. Darn pistol didn't even go off. :)
  12. Crossville: 7 year old dies after being accidentally shot by another child.   Short version: Children left in car (negligently, by parent) with loaded pistol in purse. One found the gun, removed or tried to remove the magazine, gun discharged (when the child pulled the trigger with a round left in the chamber) striking the victim in the head. (My opinion in parentheses.)   Multiple issues here, but say a prayer for this family.
  13. My .35 Remington might as well be a mortar.
  14. This proposal would make my smoke poles basically worthless.   It ain't broke. Don't fix it.
  15. SCCY 9mm stainless over FDE, and added the ArmaLaser. I bought from Classic Firearms on black Friday, for my wife to give me for Christmas :)   50 rounds FMJ, started out on target, then group opened up considerably. I wondered what was wrong - then the rear sight fell off.  Otherwise flawless. I reinstalled the sight with some Loctite for good measure. Plan to EDC this once I wring it out with carry ammo.

    Keltec PF9

Had one, used. Small trigger guard, and trigger takes up most of the available space - barely room to get your finger tip in there, And not very accurate. Shot 50-100 rounds or so, all went bang. Gave it to a family member.   Love my P32, BTW.
  17. I stopped in there once. Asked for black powder, not available. Asked for a BP substitute suitable for percussion revolvers. The salesperson recommended Blackhorn 209. I read the label. I have not returned.
  18. I avoid doctors whenever possible - only sick people go there! :)
  19. Wolf Gold is most likely PPU (Priv Partisan) in different packaging. I've bought both from Aim and/or Sportsman's Guide, in a variety of calibers, including Swiss. Good ammo, no complaints.
  20. I want one! Not sure why, exactly...   Really like my LCR .357 Mag.
  21. Don't rule out a semi-auto .22LR rifle. My wife is early 50's, but with arthritis and other health problems. Zero recoil, easy to operate, and less likely to cause hearing damage. A Marlin 60 w/ 15 rounds of Mini-Mag HP stands in the corner.
  22. Speed strips, when I occasionally carry the LCR - and I like Tuff strips. They have more options as to caliber and round count, including 5 round versions for snubby's
  23. Haven't tried the Lifestraw, but I did get a 4 pack of Sawyer Mini's from Midway for $60. Versatile, can be used as a straw, connected to tubing, or fit most plastic 2-liter or water bottles. Guaranteed for (up to) 100,000 gallons (whatever that means.) Happy with the purchase.
  24. "Deer? With a thuty-thuty? No sir, warden, I was just huntin' squirrels!"   I think this scenario was the impetus for the no center fire rule, as well as no possession of buckshot or slugs while hunting birds or small game.   If the rimfire dearth continues, these laws need to be relaxed a bit, IMO.
  25. I have one, bought from Centerfire Systems last year. Mine shoots everything, but steel case is sticky, and difficult to extract.   Steel case, + weak extractor + lack of replacement parts = recipe for disaster. So all brass for me.   And I did break the magazine spring - it's a "M" style spring, but only about half the size of a standard mauser spring. No one had the part, including Centerfire Systems, and they did not respond to my help letter. Still under warranty, but I wasn't about to return the rifle after mounting a Leopold.   So I ordered different several springs from Midway, hoping to make something fit. A 5 round coil spring intended for a mini-30 box magazine did the trick, had to fab up some sheet metal tabs to fit into the follower and floorplate. Works like a charm.   Or, one could buy the CZ 527 and avoid all that. Recommended.   EDIT: I really like the rifle, but live in fear of it becoming a parts orphan. I've seen stronger extractors on .22's.   I've thought of a few other things if you're still with me. It did handle Golden Bear, and some old Norinco copper washed steel OK; just not the lacquered or polymer coated stuff. And don't expect a controlled feed like the CZ. The bolt's a little sloppy when opened.   I bought a Leupold Rifleman scope, and the Leupold rings and mount for the Remington 799 (same rifle). Excellent combination, much better than the CAI mounts. And you will need a scope - or reshape the comb (I had to lay my head over sideways to align the open sights!) Stock is lightly oil finished walnut, and could be the beginning of a project gun.   Or, spend the $ on the CZ and avoid all that... /EDIT RANT
