Funny, I just got a extended renewal notice, as if I were late. My membership wasn't up until May, and besides, I signed up for life on Feb. 28th!

How many are sitting good in the Ammo Department ?
ttocswob replied to R1100R's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Sitting in the ammo department sounds like a good way to get trampled... I'm fairly good, or was until I saw jphillips' post. Don't have enough quality .22LR, but those I do have are golden. Good on handgun, shotgun, rifle, and components. The last four years of a box or two on payday, plus the occasional bulk order, has paid off. -
Add a 3% upcharge for credit card, and all handguns are shipped 2nd day air by 'law', cost me about $20-something a couple of years ago. And if you can, you save shipping if you buy 2 or more - only a few more dollars for each additional pistol. AIM has both Russian surplus (4.75/15) and Priv (21.95/50) I suggest the latter as it's non-corrosive and reloadable. $12 shipping on a $120 order, YMMV.

"Did you contact your Reps to day" Roll call

Just received the latest "Hornady Handbook of Cartridge Reloading" from Midway, on sale. I am very disappointed. Looked up my favorite .357 Magnum load for 158g XTP and H110. The book shows a starting load of 12.7g and a maximum of 15.6g - 12.4g and 16.0g respectively for Win 296 which is the same powder per Hodgdon. Hodgdon's Reloading Data Center calls for starting load of 15.0g to maximum 16.7g for either powder with the same bullet. I've used close to the max to get performance equivalent to Hornady factory ammo. Now here's where it gets more than a little dangerous: Hodgdon includes this warning on the main menu page: It appears to me that Hornady's data has been revised downward by some ignorant lawyer. Hornady's starting load is almost 20% less than Hodgdon's starting load. (I once experienced a couple of squibbs trying to work up a plinking load in .38 special cases, back before I knew better. IIRC, around 12 grains of H110. Don't do this!)

"Did you contact your Reps to day" Roll call

Sent 4 - not to mine, but to Colorado senators on the fence: Senator Angela Giron -SD03- (303)866-4878 Email Facebook Twitter Senator Jeanne Nicholson -SD16- (303)866-4873 Email Facebook Twitter Senator Cheri Jahn -SD20- (303)866-4856 Email Facebook Twitter Senator Nancy Todd -SD28- (303)866-3342 Email Facebook Twitter By now, my reps know where I stand. So do many other reps on other states, as their laws also affect me. So do businesses in NY and other states that I've notified, even closed accounts, even non-gun companies. Sportsman's Guide got a notice that they will lose my business if Minnesota passes their ban. Concentrated fire is one thing, but it's a target rich environment out there. If it moves (toward gun control) shoot it (by first amendment means, not second!) -
Appleseed plus RWVA membership meets the requirement, per RWVA's FAQ page.

I stopped in a couple of weeks ago. Asked for 1000 large rifle, she replied there was a 500 limit. I bought my 500 with no complaint. Beats the heck out of asking for 1000, and getting 0 because they're sold out. I've bought from them a couple of times before; they had a reasonable price per 100, but no discount for 1000. FWIW

TN Bill to remove restrictions on knife possession and carry

The big question if this passes: Will Sportsman's Guide finally let us order knives? -
Sorry, no time to reply yesterday. I'm a SAF member, largely because of Alan Gura's success in the legal arena. My only complaint is that they made excessive phone calls asking for more support. I let my membership lapse because of this. When I re-joined in January, I added a 'do not call me' note in the comment box, and so far they haven't called again.

Not familiar with the Sierra JHP - but generally a starting load should be similar for both FMJ and standard JHP's of the same mass. Where you could get in trouble is not OAL, but seating depth - with XTP's Gold Dots, or Golden Saber, the missing mass from the large cavity hollow point is made up with more lead in the base of the bullet. The same OAL can result in less case capacity and necessitate a reduced charge. Again I don't know if the Sierra is affected by this. Also depends on caliber - a .38 special has plenty of case capacity, while a 9mm is much smaller. Seating depth is much less likely to be a problem in the larger .38 Special. YMMV, yada

Door 'posting' at Southern Hills Golf & Country Club: and a crowd shot: -
IMO, YMMV, (what they said, while I was typing) Generally, a starting load should be safe for bullets of the same weight and type. Always start light and work up when changing components. In terms of maximum charge, jacketed > plated > lead. Some HP's such as XTP or Golden Saber will seat deeper into the case than typical JHP's, resulting in reduced case capacity; hence a reduced charge is required.

Sheriff's: I'm guessing cold feet. Host asked if any were present but unwilling to join the panel? He also suggested that we contact those AWOL to find out why. Windle was my Rep before redistricting, and has both personally returned my calls, and mailed handwritten notes in the past; notably on the income tax issue. May just be a e-mail thing, or too much of same. Windle was a cynical "they're republicans?" when Sen. Beavers recounted the actions of Kelsey, et al, in committee. York referred to some specific incident (without naming names of course) concerning a judge, dea, and actions not taken; when she addressed judicial ethics. You should have taken a closer look at the posting. I almost turned back to the truck when I realized - It was not a gunbuster. Instead of the red slash, it had a green checkmark, and said that lawful carry of handguns on thes premises is encouraged! I took a picture, I'll try to post tonight. -

Morning update on Sheriff's Forum: Last night's forum was opend with invocation and pledge of allegiance, then a very informative talk by Publius Huldah on Constitutional issues vs. federal and state politics. This was followed by the sheriffs of White, Dekalb, and Cumberland counties; all supportive of the right to keep and bear arms. Last was Mae Beavers, with details on the derailment of SB 250. (I think Jimmy Naifeh is alive and well inside the head of Sen Kelsey.) Lou Ann Zelnick was there, and spoke from the audience. Other notables present but not speaking were Rep. John Mark Windle and Randy York. I spoke with both, and probably missed a golden opportunity (with the latter) to give some negative feedback to the AG's office. They both made some interesting off the cuff comments while Mrs. Beavers was speaking, regarding poilitical maneuvers and judicial ethics. My biggest concern of the night: only a few young people were there. We must do a much better job of involving our children and grandchildren, If we're to have any hope of winning this thing. -
Next time, put the life jacket on the ammo - you can swim, can't you? ;)

Thank you for your service - and thankful that I didn't have to. I came of age after that 'conflict' was over, so no military service for me. My father likewise was too young for Korea, too old for Vietnam. I do have family and many friends who did serve. Both grandfathers served in WWI, and uncles in WWII.

I was there...my sheriff wasn't...but I guesstimate about 250 or so were there. Good turnout, room pretty much full. Sheriffs of White, DeKalb, and Cumberland spoke in support of RKBA. Mae Beavers also spoke, and was livid over the killing of SB 250 yesterday. -
Yoy missed FM frequency modulation... ;)
