I don't know if that is possible, gregintenn. I do know our eldership has had discussions with him and his parents. I am not privy to what they discussed. I think him not staying in drug treatment was part of why he was asked to leave his parents home. On the mental side of this, our whole society is not handling that problem, so I am not sure our church can either. It is a big problem.

Our Safety Team had to deal with another incident yesterday at our church. A young (23) very troubled young man has come into our church lately. We discovered that he has social/mental as well as addiction problems. Our leadership contacted his parents and they have kicked him out of their house because of his problems. He was staying with one of our young men, in his apartment, and evidently they had problems so he asked him to leave. He came to church services yesterday morning, and as soon as services started he left the auditorium, and walked out into the entrance hall where one of our safety team members was on watch. He walked over and took a church directory off it's table and proceeded to go outside with it. It has all the members pictures and info in it. The volunteer went and got another team member and they followed him outside and took the directory from him, as they were afraid he was seeking contact information on members for future contacts to ask for assistance, which he had done lately. By the way he has picked widows and women to ask for money. I was not there as my wife and I were visiting another congregation yesterday morning. They filled me in when I arrived at church last evening. I talked to our church leaders and last evening they informed our congregation of the problems with this young man, and told them his problems were more than they, or our church, is capable of handling, They advised our members to not give this guy money or allow this young man into their homes. They also told the members that if he contacts them to refer him back to our church leadership. I don't know if they told this young man to stay away, or not, however I would have. He has been a person of concern, to our safety team, since he has arrived into our midst, and a big source of distraction. What would you guys do if this guy was come into your church? This is escalating into a bigger problem. Myself, I would tell him to get himself straight, and he would be welcomed back, but until then he needed to stay away because his actions was becoming a distraction to our church. By the way his parents told our eldership to steer clear of him. This has turned out to be a bad situation for our church, because they wanted to help this guy, however it seems he has problems we can't help him with. It is a real dilemma we find ourselves in as, in our church, we desire to be open to all. What do you do when presented with this situation? One just don't know the background of strangers who visit your this day in time. That is why we formed our Safety Team several years ago. Our leadership finally informed our members and told them we have people who are watching over them, as we meet every service, which is true, but kind of a false hope. As you all well know, we are individually responsible for our own families and our safety, when the rubber meets the road! There are some really disturbed individuals out there guys. They seem to be coming into church congregations to get help. Help of this nature is beyond most churches ability to deal with. Just be careful!

In our church, our Safety Team has been in place for 8 years. We have our hands tied as far as armed security. Our city regs say we can only have off duty Policemen for armed security. That also the church must provide a 1 million dollar bond and 1 million dollar liability policy for the armed guards. As a church of 220 we can't afford the coast. The last time we checked the officers were 100.00 per hour with a minimum of hours per day. Our Safety Team has had to mostly handle disturbances within our congregation. I will say we do lock all outside entrances, from the outside, and that can even not work. Our last disturbance, a teen allowed a mentally disturbed man into the building, and the aftermath was not pretty. We also keep a man in the entrance hall, but he was gone to the back locking doors when the teen allowed the guy through the main doors. We now keep a man in the main entrance while someone goes back and locks the back doors. We have two men scheduled for duty, one on Sundays and one on Wednesday nights. They serve for 1 month per year. So far, it has worked for us. We have had some practice sessions, but our church leadership does not like to broadcast anything about our team, and don't want to disturb the members, plus it is that liability thing at play from our insurance company. Oh, plans of mice and men! Those who have valid concealed carry permits are allowed to church carry, however it is strictly for their own protection. They are NOT "Quazi" on property guards for the church. Our Safety Team is a totally UNARMED team. There is no easy answer to safety, or armed security on site, but one sure enough should have men who are willing to step up and handle situations, within the church, if they are forced too. We even caught a neighborhood boy coming in and going through coat pockets during classes when the halls are empty. You will be surprised what goes on, in the building, during class time. We were. Any church should seek information on laws and regulations in their local communities to stay within the law of that area. Also church liability insurance can be very sensitive to any mention of armed security, on church premises, so proceed with caution. Be safe!

I don't have a generator. They are a lot of trouble to keep maintained. My friends has some and every time they need one they will not start. Our local hospital had an outage, a while back, and neither of their automatic backups came on line. Go figure! A lot of people say one needs at least 3 weeks supply of food and water. One guy said the biggest thing would probably be enough toilet paper!!!! Thanks for the replies. I keep at least 3 weeks on hand, have 3 alternate water sources, and have plenty of toilet paper. I think I am good?

How many of you have a 2 week supply of food and water on hand in case of an emergency? I was thinking of the Californians and the earth quakes. Should a disaster happen to you, do you have a stash? I keep about 90 gallons of bottled water and do have a drilled well available(90') which can be drawn from with a well bucket and rope. The water level is within 15' of the top of the casing. Also try to keep a good supply or medications ahead. I also built a large pantry, for my wife a few years ago, and we store a good supply of canned foods along with pastas and dried beans. Just my wife and I could last for a good while, however never hope to face that problem. Just wondering do you all have any reserves for a rainy day. By the way, I don't consider myself a prepper in a big way.

peejman, we have not had that one yet. Eight year old chocking another! WOW! We have had several instances of disturbance in the past. Caught one neighborhood 15 year old boy going through the coat pockets, in our hallway, while people were in class and the hallways were deserted. Since the Antioch shooting we now lock our doors and keep a team member in the hallways at all times. We observe everyone who comes in the church also. One can't be to careful these days. Even then we have had to handle some things. We are proactive on safety now.

Our VBS, for the kids, is starting in two weeks. Our safety team will need to be on the job. We always have neighborhood parents bring their children and just drop them off, leave, then come back to get them after it is over for the night. I have never understood that because you trust your kids with complete strangers. My wife and I never did that. Big responsibility to keep them safe while they are there. We do get a chance to teach them and we have had older kids come back to church with us. In fact we just had a mother and father join our church. They had a first born daughter start attending, with one of our members daughter, and now the whole family have come to Jesus, and been baptized, for the remission of their past sins, in His holy name. God's word does still work on people's heart even today. I just finished teaching a men's class on Spiritual Ignorance. At one time, in my life, I was the poster boy for spiritual ignorance. Our preacher wanted me to tell the men the details of my conversion. I was not a Christian when I met and married my wife. She was. It was her influence on me, and her patients with me, that first brought me to services, and eventually, as my faith grew, because of listening to God's word, I came to the Lord. I was a hard case! Anyways it was a wonderful class and the men(about 60) now knows how to approach and help someone who is as spiritually ignorant "as I was". I obeyed the gospel at age 27 and started my walk with God. I have never regretted that day since. I am 71 and now know where my soul will spend eternity. That, my friends, is "Pure Spiritual Peace". Get your Bible and read (Luke 16:19-31). I will be in Abraham's Bosom(Jewish term for a place of great comfort in the hadean realm). Jesus tells of "the realm of departed spirits" in this writing. Only place, in our Bible, we get a small glimpse of where our souls will go, in the next life(realm) "Realm of departed spirits" if He(Jesus) does not come back to earth beforehand. If and when he does then we will all be going to another place in eternity. Do prepare you soul for eternity guys. If you haven't, do seek it out. The hadean realm, it is the place for believers, and non believers just after death in this life. Sad to say, but we have had several instances where our safety team has been forced into action lately also. Never needed a team until about 7 years ago. Violence in churches was unheard of before then. Oh, the times, they are a changing. My attire will be the usual, 7 shot revolver in left front pocket, MP 2.0 9 MM IWB on right hip along with prayer that they will never be used. Mind you this will be for my sweetie's and my protection, ONLY. I am not a ninja cop. I leave that work to them, the Police. To God be the glory in everything.

I went to On Target yesterday in Murfreesboro. Found out it has new ownership. Clerk said they got rid of all the guns that were not selling. I looked around and they had 7 revolvers, two of which were not hot movers. The walls were lined with nothing but A R type rifles, and the pistol cases were full of plastic pistols. Everything black. They did have a one case with steel Sig pistols. No one in the store but 2 clerks. No one on the indoor range either. I wouldn't give a nickel for an AR. I know they have improved, but the one I had in Vietnam was not a good rifle. Is this all that people are purchasing these days? How boring!

Mt Juliet TN mayor proposed a ordinance allowing city employees, who have valid concealed carry permits, to carry their EDC to work. He explained after the latest mass shooting where 11 city employees were killed, he feels his city employees have a right to self defense even at work. His plan is to allow them to carry for self protection. Be interesting to see if this flies. By the way, I agree with him.

I hope I understood this correctly. Tennessee has passed a bill, and funded it also, which will put an armed SRO officer in every School in TN. It takes effect on the first of July this year. I like this and think it to be a good thing. This should make school shootings harder to do in this state, I hope.

The original poster wanted to make it clear one will be his own first responder should you be caught in a mass type situation. Don't plan on being rescued any time soon. At least that is why he suggested having life saving supplies with you if you go into crowds. IE, a small first aid kit etc.

I just read one of John Farnam's Quips. He stated if you are caught in a large scale shooting, most times, no one will be coming to your aid "fastly". He pointed out the London Bridge terrorist attack, and also the Aldean massacre in Las Vegas. Most victums had to extricate themselves. He's right, you know! He advises carrying a survival bag, however you will not be able to take it into a concert or large gathering place, now. Can't take large bags into the NFL stadium in Nashville or the concert hall there. Me, I stay out of all of them. Try not to go to large gatherings except for church services. I try to be on high alert in large gatherings(church). My motto, "Get You and Yours Out, If You Can."

I hear they are calling his death, a mercy killing. The guy didn't want him tortured after being turned over to another outfit.

I belong to the Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network. 360 978 5200 Consider them. It is not an insurance program however, if the shoot is self defense, like all of them, they pay well, plus it is reasonably priced. I have had it for years. Hope I never need to use it. They are out of Seattle area and on west coast time if you call. It is a good program.

Whisper, what riled me was the kid's statement, "Gault was going t o go to hell because he killed men in the execution of his duties as a lawman", was not a truthful statement. Why I included scripture to debunk the statement. God/Christ allowed the apostles to purchase tools for self protection(swords).

I have an older non takedown 40 caliber also. Broke the ejector and sent it back to Ruger. They repaired it for free, even though I was not the original purchaser. Sent it back to me on their dime. Can't beat their customer service, IMO.

I finally got around to watching the movie, on Netflicks, "The Highwaymen" with Kevin Costner playing Texas Ranger Hammer and Woddy Haralson playing Ranger Gault. On another board, several posted that the movie was fairly depictive of Texas Ranger Hammer and the take down of Bonnie and Clyde. At any rate I liked the movie, but had a problem with one of the scenes. In the movie Gault's grandson told him his mother said, "Gault was going to go to hell for killing all those men in his carrier as a Texas Ranger." IMO, some liberal writer had to come up with that line out of total IGNORANCE. The Bible tells, in (Romans 13:1-4) (V 1)Let every person be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. V 2 V 3 ________ (V 4) For it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not BEAR THE SWORD for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath upon the one who practices evil. Well with anyone who has two brains cells clicking knows that there is a system set in place, by God, to oppose evil. In our form of government the judicial branch, which includes the Police(the sword of gov), are those who are set in place to oppose evil and defeat it by force if necessary. If they (Police) take a life, FOR the RIGHT reasons, they will not be condemned to hell (those condemned to spiritual death) for opposing evil or carrying out their duty. Stupid statements like that gets me frustrated. Same go for being a soldier and carrying out their duty. Just read about Cornelius in Acts chapter 10. He was a Roman soldier who was converted to Christianity and he was a Soldier. The apostle Peter was sent a message about Cornelius, by God in a dream, and Peter taught him and his household the gospel then baptized them into Christ. Read it for yourself. Same goes for one any person practicing self defense. In Luke chapter 22, Jesus told the apostles, as He was about to leave them to their own devices; after Christ was to be crucified. In (Luke 22:35-36) And He said to them, "When I sent you out without purse and bag and sandals, you did not lack anything, did you? And they said no nothing. V 36, And He said to them, "But now, let him who has a purse take it along, likewise also a bag, and let him who has no sword sell his robe and buy one." V 38 And they said, "Lord look, here are 2 swords." And He said to them, "It is enough." Jesus gave the Apostles tools, and a way to protect themselves, as they traveled the known world, at that time, to spread the gospel. A sword is a defensive or offensive tool. It is capable of punching holes, if one gets close enough to it. A gun reaches out and punches holes, if one is close enough. I hope I never need too, but it is no sin to oppose evil and one will not be put in hell for practicing self defense .

The 3 Taurus revolvers I possess have been flawless. There was some problems with early 617, but that was corrected in later models. The tolerance was too tight and when they heated up the revolver would bind the cylinder rotation. I have never owned a Taurus semi auto so I can't say anything about them. Taurus has had a quality control problem, in the past, and I think that has tarnished their image with shooters. More so than other major brands, however they have had their stresses also as of late. The only new guns I have purchased lately is 2 M P 9C 2.0 pistols and my first one has been good ones(400 rounds through it). I just recently purchased the second M P and haven't fired it yet. Waiting on warmer weather.

I have 3 of these revolvers, 1 SS, 1 blue in 357.38Spl , and another SS 38Spl only. This is my EDC, and has been for 5 years. Diabetic neuropathy forced me back to revolvers. Nerve damage in my hands and wrist. The 38 Spl is a ultra light. I pocket carry and use a Desantsis Nemesis pocket holster that I need to rip out the inside stitching and have my wife re-sow the inside stitching opening up the throat about 1/4". Works well for pocket carry, but I have never found a good leather or IWB holster for the 617. How do you like the 617? I really like mine, and the 7 rounds are not bad. I can get by and not be made out to be carrying if I wear dark colored trousers. They print, a little, in lighter color trousers, but I have never been called on indiscrete carrying. If you find a leather holster, that is adequate, please let me know.

The coast flashlights, that I purchased a year ago, still work fine. I went back to Walmart and purchased another Coast and it is slightly larger. We use it in our RV.

We have camped in every TN State Park, that has RV camping in TN, except for 2 around Memphis. Don't have any desire to go to Memphis or that area. Every Park has something unique to that area. TN has a lot to offer out of doors. Get out and enjoy it QuackerSmaker.

I don't make any resolutions, however keep up the good work bersaguy. I quit smoking in 1987 and have not touched one since. Of course I gained 50 pounds, but eventually lost a few. If you manage to quit it will pay dividends later one in your life. That's a good thing.

I have an older model Ruger carbine, however the one I have is in 40 caliber, and is not a takedown model. I purchased the one I have used and the extractor broke. Sent it back to Ruger and they repaired it free. I like the 40 although that caliber has become the ugly duckling caliber. I am sure the 9MM would be as good and a lot of fun to play with. One drawback to the 40 is the ammo is much higher than the 9 MM.
