  1. I got the family discount ReeferMac. He just charged me for his cost on the rock. This rock came from a rock quarry in Woodbury, I believe. He did not charge me for the haul because his truck was coming to the "Boro" after work. My son in law drove it over and spread it for me. We need to meet ReeferMac. I live on Lofton Rd. straight across 96 from Cainsville pike, 5th house on right from 96 E. Come see me, and I will show you my range although it is real muddy after our rain a couple days ago. .
  2. Finished spreading and leveling the new load of gravel on the driveway yesterday afternoon. All my projects are finished now. Looking forward to a full week of recovery rest before our fishing trip the following week. I am exhausted. My sweetie told me, last evening, that an old man should act his age. Said I was pushing myself too hard. I told her I had to do my part as the others were putting time in on my projects. Son in law came over last evening to pick up his tractor. I asked him what I owed his dad for the dirt, hauling it, the use of his Skid Steer loader and the gravel. He told me 299.00 for the cost of the 22 tons of gravel, and the rest was no charge. Of course we will buy him some gift certificates for his favorite restaurants. Will go to the bank, this morning, and get some cash. Son in law has 3 kids to raise, and I know he can use a little extra money. Can I say, "I Have Been Blessed." Now, rest, rest and more rest. Planning to be lazy this next week. Whata a week!
  3. Guys, I have no idea how to put pictures on this thing.
  4. We finished the new shooting range yesterday evening. It took 7 loads of dirt, and I put the finishing touches on the range just before we got a 6/10 of an inch of rain on it. I had just finished covering the grass seed, with a hand rake, when it started sprinkling. I even sowed the 7' tall berm with the grass seed. I still need to cut 3 large trees, but will do that later this fall. I have a good friend who burns wood, and he and I will cut them in early November. It will be his wood for next year as he likes to get his wood dried before burning in his fireplace and wood for camping. It was a lot of work. This range will, most probably, be the last one I will ever need. I have a good 25'X50' pistol range and added 70 feet to the range where we can get 100 yards easily now. The berm is 25' wide, which should be adequate for my purposes. I drained the shooting area well and smoothed it out so one can move and shoot without experiencing terrain problems. My son in law delivered us 22 tons of gravel so my day will consist of spreading and leveling a 300' driveway. He brought me a big tractor, with a loader and box scraper on it, to do the job. We have a wonderful son in law. Looking forward to a week of rest then going on our first RV trip after labor day. Will be dipping some lures in a 2 week long quest for fish and good eats. May I say a well deserved rest.
  5. Anyone know the address of the new store in Murfreesboro?
  6. We dumped 3 loads of dirt on the range yesterday afternoon. We need 3 more loads then the rough in will be complete. I operated the Skid Steer track loader and spread the dirt in between the rocks and leveled out a driveway to get the dump truck back to where the berm will be located. I need to work the first load of dirt as high as I can get it this morning. We will dump another load beside the first one and work it in this afternoon L/w. Hopefully my son in law will be able to haul the other 3 loads after he gets off work this afternoon. The range is shaping up nicely. Will be great when we get it all sown down, with grass seed, and to its finished grade. Expecting rain on Wednesday and hope we can get the dirt on site before it rains. Don't want to tear up my yard no more than necessary. I am getting an extra load of topsoil so I can repair some areas in the yard to make better. I am so excited and so is my grandson. He had an accident while drilling something yesterday. He ripped his fingernail off, on his pointer(index finger) on his right hand. He is kinda slowed at present and really bummed out because he is not able to run the Skid Steer. He was over last evening and asked who spread the dirt. His dad said Pop Pop did it and he looked at me like I had a whole in my head. His dad told him I ran all types of construction equipment, while in the Red Horse Battalion, in Viet Nam. The Sea Bees trained us and we did the same thing they do.
  7. Congrats on the gun buy. I gave my grandson a Mossy 500 as he has started rabbit hunting. It was a 20 Ga and had the 18" brl so I called Mossberg and purchased a 24" brl with 3 screw in choke tubes. Cost me 250.00 for all of it. I think the brl was 180.00. I am sure they would have a 14" if you want one for your Shockwave. I shot my Mosey 12 Ga with the pistol grip, and my old arthritic wrist hurt for days. Can't take the shorty guns any longer, but you enjoy. Yes, that should make a good addition to your house gun battery.
  8. Owejia, we were down in your neck of the woods last Friday. Stopped to eat at the Scoop and Go Restaurant, in College Grove. Went to just down from C G and picked up the horses, then went to Triune, and took my daughter, and 3 others to the horse show. Yes we will really enjoy the range when it gets a little cooler. Know what you mean about sweet in the eyes.
  9. Well, we got the ground work done on the new shooting range. I went out early this morning and weed-eated the area so we could see what we were doing. Moved several large boulders and got a fairly level 20' wide alley way, 60' long through the trees which will act as a sound barrier for the neighbors. The under brush, below 40 to 50' tall trees, is so dense one has a very hard time walking through it. My grandson and I had previously cut most of the underbrush earlier this spring. Where the berm will be the area fans out to about 35' wide and should be able to make the berm about 25 to 35" in length. We should get 100 yards shooting distance fairly easy now. Grandson is already talking about sighting his deer rifles in. I am going to need to cut one 15"x 30' tree and plan to do it first of the week. We did have one very large boulder we will not be able to move until we get some packed dirt around it so we can get good footing for the track loader. Other than this we are ready for dirt and grass seed. We will sow it all down in grass and be able to keep it mowed easily. Been looking forward to this for a while now. I have missed my back yard shooting area. This one should be much better than our previous one.
  10. We took our first born daughter to a horse show last evening. Didn't get home until 1:00 AM. Got up this morning and opened the curtains, which overlooks our back yard. There sits a large track laying loader. It appears my son-in-law and grandson have decided to build my shooting range in the back yard today. We have 3 acers of land, and in the far left corner, of my back yard, we have a perfect place to put an earthen berm to shoot into. I have several large boulders that need to be moved and some large rock crevasses that needs to be filled, with dirt, so we can have a 100 yard range, and a substantial berm to absorb the bullets in order to provide a good backstop. My last wood backstop lasted 25 years, but is toast now. I guess grandson will clear the area, with the loader, and SIL will haul several large truckloads of dirt today. Oh well another $1,000.00 down the tubes, but will have an excellent firing range afterwards, that should last for years. Son in law's dad has a construction company, and thankfully, I do get the family discount. There is a side note to this venture, grandson wants a good 100 yard rifle range to shoot his Weatherby 06 that Pop Pop laid on him last Christmas. I want to put up some popper plates, square metel plates, and a good backstop, with a very smooth area in front of the berm, so we will be able to move and fire safely. All my family likes to shoot when the come for a visit. We have 4 girls and 6 grandchildren so we can burn some ammo on an outing. Looks like we are in for a busy day.
  11. I have a Colt Pocketlite in 380 and a Pocket Nine which is a tad bit bigger. The 380 looks just like the AMT I owned years ago, but it works.
  12. Unloaded gun. My take on that was, he was trying to add all the drama to the story as he could. Fact remains this lady was on the job. She looked the elephant in the eyes, and stood tall. Tuff lady and so was the man/neighbor in the Summerland Texas, who shot the church shooter there, as he was leaving the church. And fact of the matter the guy in Antioch TN who tackled the shooter in that church. These all were courageous individuals. The news media is notorious for using a lot of sensational descriptive words in their stories. After all they have an agenda…..paint firearms in the most bad light as possible.
  13. This is about the lady, Jenne Assam, who was the Security Guard Who shot the intruder entering the Colorado Springs Church. She is commenting on the Sugarland Texas shooting. Short and interesting. Watch it. https://kdvr.com/2017/11/06/former-guard-who-killed-gunman-at-colorado-springs-church-reacts-to-texas-shooting/
  14. Yes, people will report anything. My daughter and grandson was mowing my yard, last week, and my grandson was weed eating beside the road when a deputy pulled up, with his lights flashing, and said someone called in a report that there was 3" of grass covering the road, which was a total untruth. The Deputy wanted to know if they were going to blow the road off when they were finished. Go figure! My daughter said a newer marron dodge truck drove by 2 times then parked in the driveway, just down the street, then left when the cruiser pulled up. It had an Illinois tag on it. "Yankies," how'd they ever get here in TN?
  15. “Gun control also taught me that only a fool can believe that ‘gun control’ will solve the problem of mass violence,” he wrote. “The people using the guns in these loathsome incidents are moral agents with twisted hearts. And the twisting is done by the culture of sexual anarchy, personal excess, political hatreds, intellectual dishonesty, and perverted freedoms that we’ve systematically created over the past half-century.” Treating the symptoms in a culture of violence doesn’t work. We need to look deeper. Until we’re willing to do that, nothing fundamental will change.” - Source: Archbishop Charles Chaput (archbishop of Denver in 1999 when two teens went on a shooting spree at Columbine High School in Colorado and killed 13 people.). Edited to add; Red Flagg Laws nor meaningful background checks will do nothing to prevent this from happening either. The arch bishop got right to the heart of the matter, in what he said. pop pop
  16. Has been reported he is a suspect in the rape and killing of a female TN Corrections individual. Found her dead in her home.
  17. This guy did not show up at church yesterday, or last Wednesday night. Since no one is giving him cash, and the other brother is not allowing him to stay in his house, maybe he will find more fertile ground for his cause. We hope this works out for the best, and the problem goes away. Time will tell. I just don't think this guy is ready to get off the drugs, and without that there is not much hope for him to better himself.
  18. Mark, Illinois does not honor any states carry permits. My TN permit allows me to have a loaded gun in the cab of my truck, stowed in the console or glove compartment. That is where my EDC will be housed while in the state of Illinois. I try to obey every states laws where guns are concerned. I don't want trouble from the law. I have a book that contains all the carry laws, from all the states. Thanks for the warning.
  19. Tominmn, we traveled hwy 2 which goes from Maine to Washington state and stays about 50 to 70 miles south of the Canadian border. We seen the headwaters of the Mississippi while driving that road, but did not go to the park. The river was not real impressive up there. Gregintn, we have camped at the Big South Fork and rode the train to the blue Heron coal mine out of Sterns KY. It was a great trip. We are really looking forward to breaking new ground on this trip. I once worked for a John Deer dealer and sold farm and home machines. They once were the best farm machinery and lawn mowers on the market. Never cheap but the best. I don't know if that is true now or not, but looking forward to touring their Museum in Moline Ill.
  20. We are making plans to go on another fall trip. This time my sweetie found an article, in our Country Magazine, about a scenic trip along the upper Mississippi River. They have a Scenic Byway on both the Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois sides of the big river. We plan to drive to Moline Ill and view the John Deer Museum, and cross over the river into Missouri, then travel the Byway north that runs beside the river to Dubuque Iowa. Then crosses back over the Mississippi to Galena Illinois. We have plans to spend 3 weeks on this trip. We will be stopping at Galena, the Mississippi Palisades State Park, Moline, then cross the river to Hannibal Missouri. Explore that area of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, then travel on to Alton Ill, then on to St. Louis where my sweetie wants to go and see the Budweiser Clydesdales farm located there about. We have been shut ins because of the hot weather as I have asthma and can’t take the very hot times of the year. Air conditioning is my best friend right now. Was 98 here yesterday and with the heat index 111. Asthmatics have a hard time breathing in such conditions. Our plan is to leave here on Sept 16th and return by Oct 5th. Then we will spend the last 2 weeks of Oct in Ashville N C, and Pigeon Forge TN. The October trip has been our tradition for the past 15 years. The Great Smokey Mountain N P is one of my favorite destinations and we try and visit a couple times per year. We also like the Blueridge Parkway, out of Ashville N C, equally as well. We have plans to spend a week at each place and do some serious leaf peeping while there. We once hiked a lot, but at 71 and with my knee, and 69 with her bad hip, which is set to be replaced on the 4th of Nov, we can no longer go on long strenuous hikes. We do short ones and do most of our leaf peeping through the windshield now. Our first grandson (26) will be traveling with us. He has been all over the U S with us in our RV. Lack 3 states and he will have been in all the lower 48 states. He has Downs Syndrome and really enjoys our trips. He has a T V and his electronics in the back seat of our truck and enjoys them as we drive. He will be singing Charlie Pooth, Michel Jackson or Willie Nelson’s “On The Road Again,” or something else as we drive down the road. He also entertains himself off of satellite TV or Movies he watches on the TV screen mounted on the back of Mimi’s seat head rest. Talk about having it made! I will be taking my guns as Missouri and Iowa honors my TN Concealed Carry Permit; however, Illinois only allows me to have a gun in my truck and does not honor any states CCP. I also keep one(Mossberg 20 Ga) in my 5th wheel RV which I pull behind my truck. So I will be able to protect her, grandson, and myself should the issue be forced upon us. My sweetie carries also which is comforting. America is great, and God is good, guys!
  21. I agree with you all on informing the Police. I told them in order to not give him someone to place the blame on, and "Possibly" take revenge on, to just tell him that the Safety Team recommended that he be asked not to come back until he is serious about self improvement and leaving the drugs alone. By all means he is not welcomed if he is I believe if he shows up and creates another disruption, our leaders will be asking him not to return until he is better. I know many in our church has expressed dissatisfaction with him and his disruptions. Some are scared of him. For sure when he exited the building with the church directory and asking members for money. This problem has been removed and the directory will not be on display again. They also have told him not to be asking for money, and informed the members not to give him cash, which they believe he is using to purchase drugs with. These kind of problems are seeming to be finding our church, more and more, as time goes on. This kid was raised in the church and, IMO, is using his Christian connections to fund his habit. I for one don't care to participate. I am not sure if he even has a job. I don't know how many more times the leadership will tolerate this guy before asking him to not come back. I do understand their desire to help this guy but, IMO, he has to want to help himself. IMO, that is the problem, he does not have the desire to help himself. I also don't know the extent of his mental state. That really concerns me. Mixing mental problems with drug use is a recipe for disaster. We have already seen several serious problems, right here in middle TN, with the problem people. They are too numerous to mention all of them, but the worst was the Antioch church shooting. That perp was just given life without parole on the murder one charge with 42 other counts he will be sentenced on by the judge. That does very little to repay the 9 people he killed or injured with his outburst of anger, and all the people this thug has disrupted their lives. Most will never be the same. I don't want that to happen to our church. I too have compassion for his soul, but also care for the safety of our families.
  22. After more discussions, apparently our church leadership has decided his soul is valuable to them and God. They intend to help this young man if at all possible, but will not put up with continual problems caused by this young man. They will not tolerate church panhandling nor distractions caused by this guy and have told him so recently. If he is serious about self improvement they will do what they can to try and aid that, but will not hesitate to tell him not to come back if problems continue. They also told him they were not equipped to handle some of his problems (IE mental and drug), but have located a place for him to seek counseling, through our local Health Department, if he wants to do that. Evidently his parents told them he was not a danger to anyone, "if you can believe that". I am real concerned about that one and time will tell. They do not want to call Police, for now, but if they need to tell him not to come back, it is their intention to call them and make him known to them. They said they had to consider, "What would Jesus do in this situation," and they are concerned for this young man's soul even though he is not a member of our group at this time. May God help us! He never attended Wednesday night services of this week. We will see what transpires this coming Sunday. Wish I could say more.
  23. Asking this guy not to come back is not kicking him to the curb. Our city has free food and shelter for those seeking an hand up. Only free food for those asking a hand out. It is my understanding they also have counselors for the mentally ill and homeless. I am not sure what this guy is after but for sure, he has no use for information about our members. By the way that temptation has been removed as the book was taken out of public view. I agree the Police need to be made aware of him, however the church leaders does not want our church to become a problem church for the Police. I have been assured if this problem continues then we will call them. Their hope is this will work itself out in time. We will see.
  24. Thanks for the replies. This young man is not a member of our church. He just showed up a couple weeks ago and has been to our services 3 times(not regular) now. This is the first time he has done something like this. Dealing with this situation is not easy. A church want to be open, and helpful, but! I intend to talk to the leaders on Wednesday night.
