  1. I was off pain killers by third day, except for one pill before P T and One at bedtime for 7 days. After that just 1 before PT. I don't like taking Opioids. One needs them early and they do help healing. One must get sleep epically for the first 5 nights. I did have small pain when I quit taking them at night but did not keep me from sleeping. Hope you can do the same, but take them to start with if you need them.
  2. Darrell your very correct. We, as a modern society, are insulated from death. I can remember my grandmother was viewed and kept, after her death, in my parent's home after she passed, and until she was burred. Death is a subject many don't like to discuss. Been 113 views of this thread and 1 comment.
  3. Had my left knee replaced 2 years ago. It is not as good as the one God gave me, but much less pain than the old one. I would do it again. Did the PT religiously and recovered 85% in 4 weeks. First two is worst, but I took a pain pill 45 min before going to P T. Helped a bunch. I had problems because I did not know what pain killer I could take. The first one the gave me made me sick. Changed and off to the races I went. My new one is not as flexible as my real one was. Can't ride a bicycle any longer. Only gripe I got.
  4. Dave, DAVE, haven't you been told, the 40 are the ugly ducklings of today! I like them.
  5. Death is a natural part of life. We may not like it but will all experience it in time. All the animals and fauna will die eventually. "Death is a subject many do not want to discuss." Some fear death. Death is the point where one's spirit leaves this tent, where it exit here on earth (our body), then our soul spirit enters the Hadean Realm (the realm of departed spirits) and eventually the spirit returns to God who gave it in the first place. The body (tent where the spirit exist on earth) is placed in the ground and returns to dust which God used to form our bodies in the beginning of mankind. One can confirm this in the pages of the Holy Bible, which is Gods word to mankind, and in written form. King James had the Bible translated and put into written form many centuries ago. We can all benefit by reading a good translation. We are blessed to have it in this day in time. Matter of fact, one does not need to fear death. One can prepare for death. That is the key to not fearing death. Guys it is going to come. Death to some people, those who prepared beforehand, will be something looked forward too. The Bible tells one heaven is a wonderful place to spend eternity with God and Christ sitting at His right hand. I don't say this callously because death, is separation and it brings great grief and pain to our families, loved ones, and friends who are left behind here in this realm. Those who are left, in this realm, can take comfort in the fact they they can go to the one who had died and gone into the next realm. You can read what King David said after he lost his son he had with Bathsheba, in (2nd Samuel 12:15-23) in your Bible. It is comforting to know one can go to the departed providing we prepare for it. The key to deal with death is to prepare yourself for it before one reaches the end. I know this is a gun blog and death is not a pleasant subject, but we will all face it sooner or later. Why I put this in General Discussion. I have a friend who is haunted by those he killed in war. I told him they had the same chance to prepare themselves as he did, before they met their death in War. Not a good/pleasant subject to discuss, but a needed one in the days of Coved and after.
  6. Hipower, it is just a story about an somewhat famous person humbling himself, and extending friendship to one who is less fortunate. It is what God wants all mankind to do. Cody and our first born actually went back and seen Mr Drury in 2018. He remembered Cody and asked him to sit in his booth with him as he signed autographs and other things. Cody considered him to be his friend. They were going back in May of this year, but James passed away in April at 84. I posted this story here to encourage others to do the same. If you see someone less fortunate, reach out to them. Be a caring human being.
  7. How many of you remember the TV series “The Virginian”? The Virginian was played by James Drury. Our first-born daughter likes the reruns of the old western. They had a Cowboy Way Festival in Ardmore Oklahoma in 2017. We took our RV and drove out here and met James among other old western stars of yesteryear. Our grandson Cody went with us. Our daughter even got him a black western hat, red shirt, and outfit like the Virginian wore in the TV series. They have a Virginian Posse fan club. Prior to our getting there She posted Cody’s picture on the posse page and several made comments about Cody. As it turned out many were looking for Cody after we arrived. When we arrived and on Thursday night our daughter took Cody to a restaurant, in Ardmore, to eat. We stayed behind and set up our campsite and decided to attend the Friday thru Sunday festivities. After they arrived at the Restaurant they were seated and someone yelled out, “Is that Cody”? To their surprise it was James Drury. He was 84 at that time. He recognized Cody from the picture our daughter posted on the posse web site. James got up, came to their table, and shook Cody’s hand and welcomed them to the festival. Long story short, they had a Bosman’s dinner at the end of the festival on Sunday night. He told the director he wanted Cody to sit at the Bosman’s table and eat dinner with him. James Drury passed away in May of this year. Last week, a kind Lady wrote, on the Posse Web page, of her memory of that 2017 dinner as she sit beside Cody at the Bosman’s table that night. Here is her memory. Flashback to 2017, sitting across from Mr. Drury at the dinner table in Ardmore, OK I asked Mr D; What keeps you going, other than your beautiful morning and evening star(his Wife)? He looked at the entire table, and said; Each and everyone of you, then he looked at Cowboy Cody, who was sitting next to me with his family, and said, Especially you! I remember the smile on his face when he said that. It was priceless. He really, really enjoyed IMO being with all of us, and “most of all Cowboy Cody” that night. One of my most wonderful memories of Our Ramrod…. This spring after Cody learned of Mr Drury’s passing, he cried for days. Still does some times. He called me and told me “My Friend James Drury died Pop Pop, and every time Cody sees a rainbow in the sky, he says My Friend James Drury is happy. Cody is 28 now and has Downs Syndrome. Takes a Special Man to befriend someone who is challenged. Just like when King David(of the Bible) showed kindness to Mephibosheth (2nd Samuel 9). Read it, and your go and do the same.
  8. m16ty, it is easy to do when your middle-aged and fit, or younger, but when you get to my station in life(72) and have several health problems bad knees, back, heart, and neck, among others, it is hard to look any other way but, OLD. I really think that may be why these thugs felt they could succeed with me. They saw meat and made the decision to eat. They saw opportunity, me out of my house and 300' away, much younger than I , and Ability, 3 of them to one of me. I sensed, very clearly, I was in jeopardy. As Sam Colt said, God made men large and small, but his invention made them equal. Luckily, I had the equalizer in my pocket. I will say I agree with your assessment on how to carry oneself if at all possible. In my case one really must rely on a equalizer, if forced into defending oneself. I like to be the "Grey Man", in public, and in life.
  9. Mike will surely be missed by his family, and us here. RIP Michael. He was truly talented. Prayers for his families comfort.
  10. I use Military Ammo Cans and store them in closets in my home. Have some in a safe, but the trick to making ammo last is storing ammo in air tight containers and keeping them in a controlled temperature area. Our home stays from 70 to 73 degrees year round.
  11. Very sad to hear. Prayers for the family and all here.
  12. Thanks TGO David.
  13. I don't walk to the mail box any longer.
  14. Prayed for your healing this morning Michael.
  15. We had a great time. All our daughters and families were here for a week. We did lots of outdoor activities. Our first born has a horse farm with 2 4 wheelers and our grandkids rode them big time. Took family pictures on horses and in the woods on her farm. Went on trail rides, and hikes all over her 90 acre farm. We eat like kings, big turkey and ham thanksgiving day feast with all the trimmings. Had country ham, biscuit, bacon, sausage, and egg breakfast every morning. The girls got in Black Friday shopping and we generally had a wonderful week. Had not seen two of our daughters and families for over a year. It was time for us. "Reed Manor" was full once again. Hope we don't get sick??? Hope you guys had a good Thanksgiving holiday yourselves. May go to Charleston S C for Christmas. Will see how coved goes.
  16. Both my 380's were S W late models and sent both back, but neither become reliable. I switched to a Kahr P 9 which is about the same size and reliable, but much more blocky. The PPKs were wonderful feeling pistols and I really liked them, but not for reliable service to me. They really are nice pistols IMO.
  17. I had 2 PPKs 380 and neither would keep shooting. Had all kinds of failures with both. Purchased one used and one new. Hope you guys have better luck than I did.
  18. Good Song.
  19. Alleycat, God hates no one. His word says he loves all and wants all to come to Him through faith in His Son, Jesus the Christ. Read your Bible and allow it into your heart(The Mind). Christ worldwide invitation; (Matthew 11:28-30) Come to Me, ALL who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you. and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My load is Light. Each persons choice to make. The way God intended it. Edited to add; Bigun, you allowed nature to take it's course concerning your 3 precious loved ones. One does not make those decisions easily or play God when making this kind of very hard decisions. Take comfort in that. I said it earlier, euthanasia is a completely different situation.
  20. My sweetie has a MDL 65 Lady-Smith 38/Spl357Mag in 3" for her house gun. She loves the gun. Shoots it well and she has it loaded with Cor Bon DPX 38Spl. I would keep the Smith. Got one just like it that rides my safe, but my pocket.
  21. Bass Pro had a few in their circular, but I really didn't look closely.
  22. We had 17 at our daughter's house, and eat like kings and queens. our whole family was there. Left all the leftovers for them.
  23. Prayer for you all again tonight Steel.
  24. I am at high risk but I don't know if I would take or not.
  25. My family are all here, and I am so glad. Hope we stay clear from Coved, but we wanted to see them, a few for the first time in a year. We had the 12th birthday party for our youngest grandson Tuesday afternoon. I purchased him a Realtree "Edge" Camo hunting outfit. Great time. He put it on and promptly went out in the rain to see if it was water proof. It was. Happy Thanksgiving to you all.
