  1. A Kentucky boys song. John Prine Performs ‘Paradise’ with Marty Stuart - YouTube Edited to add; I lived in E KY at the time John was talking about. Where I was born. I remember the picture of "Pebody's Worlds Largest Shovel" john talks about in this song. They called it a Steam Shovel in the newspaper article. It could load a heavy off road dump truck with one scoop, so they reported. Peabody Coal Co actually tried to block the recording of this song. It told of what they were doing to the land in Muhlenberg county. KY, later, forced Peabody to reclaim the desolate land. Now everyone hunts large deer on some of those lands. John died from Coved this year. This is a good example of real life depicted in art.
  2. I really like good lever guns, and would purchase another if found. Coved is keeping me out of the gun stores for now.
  3. Merry Christmas and happy new year to all.
  4. Said prayer for you Robin. Hope you recover soon.
  5. 50 years ago I gave my sweetie a copy of "All I have to offer you is Me," sung by Charlie Pride. We celebrated our 50 back in Feb of this year.
  6. That old guitar's sound is as famous as Willie is. When one hears it, they know exactly who's it is. I think it's name is "Trigger." people have signed their names on it for decades.
  7. He probably will not be with us much longer. Roy Orbison had a huge hit on this song but willie wrote it. Hope this works https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=youtube+willie+nelson+pretty+paper&view=detail&mid=3B7C3DFC0B3FE9EEECF23B7C3DFC0B3FE9EEECF2&FORM=VIRE0&ru=%2fsearch%3fq%3dyoutube%2bwillie%2bnelson%2bpretty%2bpaper%26form%3dANSPH1%26refig%3d6df79a94d51647b398c0f5d2f6a1db13%26pc%3dU531%26sp%3d1%26ghc%3d1%26qs%3dSC%26pq%3dutube%2bwillie%2bnelson%2bpretty%2bpaper%26sk%3dPRES1%26sc%3d1-32%26cvid%3d6df79a94d51647b398c0f5d2f6a1db13
  8. Walking, in house, and Ice is your friend now. Movement keeps chance of blood clots down, and ice is wonderful to keep swelling down. I got up and walked, in my house, every 2 hours right after my surgery then applied a ice pas. I walked about 10 times around my house. We have a 1000 feet circle through our den dining room and kitchen. I started out with 5 times then graduated up to 15 times when the knee let me. It helps in the long run even though it hurts. Just remember baby steps at first the push it a little more each time. About the 3rd or 4 day, after the good drugs wore off, was my worst as far as knee pain. First week of PT was also bad then it was up up and away. I felt 60 % better the second week after. Took a while to get back to normal after surgery. You will always know that knee has been replaced. That will never go away. At least, in my case, that is my experience. Prayers for you Randall53.
  9. I experienced memory loss after bypass surgery. Went to the Dr yesterday and had my memory tested. Results supposed to show if I have Dementia, or Alzheimer's, or just memory. I know I have a flawed memory loss caused by old age, I am 72. I know I really have a diminished capability. I just don't know why. I did talk to my Heart Surgeon and Cardiac Care Dr, shortly after surgery, and both told me some do experience memory loss, after heart surgery, but for most their memory gets better with time. My memory has not and the surgeon said a slight possibility it would not in a few cases. The test lasted two and a half hours. My mind was blown by the time it was finished. I never looked at so many pages of circles dots and imposed pictures in my life. Even told me 25 words, 2 times, then told me to repeat them. I could not have accomplished that feat when I was young. I still study the Bible and read a lot of books, which I enjoy. Can't remember a lot of scripture or wher to find information on specific subjects in the Bible. That bothers me. My mother passed with Alzheimer's and I want to know if that is a possibility with me. Appreciate the thanks, xtriggerman.
  10. Didn't have any trouble with straightening my new knee flat out, but my flexing is a little less than I wanted. I did all my PT well, but. Glad your replacement went so well. Prayers for your continued healing.
  11. That is a good thing Swamp ash. Chevy Chase's mail man threw his mail at him in the movie "Funny Farm". I guess they are still looking for "Yealler Dog"?
  12. DJTC45, I am the guy who started this thread. Vent all you want to. You have had a bad trip. Will pray for you right now. I had bypass myself 4 years ago. I am going tomorrow to have my memory checked out. After I woke from the bypass I lost a considerable amount of memory. Surgeon said that is a side effect with a small percentage of by pass patients. Hoping and praying all goes well with you. Edited to add; I know what you are saying about leaving your wife. I too have had those same thoughts. I have 5 stints and double bypass in my history. I am Christian and do not fear death either, but sure would hate to leave my sweetie. We just celebrated 50 years married. She has suffered because of my Agent Orange from Vietnam and it certainly has brought a hardship on her being married to me. Most of my problems stem from service connection. I am a 90% disabled Veteran.
  13. Has anyone got an idea how much funerals cost now? Don't expect to be in the market for one, any time soon, but would like to know.
  14. My first memory is of a Revolver my dad kept in the head of his bed. It was a pre model 10 38Spl he purchased and taught my mother how to shoot. He had tuberculous and knew he was going to be taken away to Ashville N C. He wanted mom to be able to protect us 3 kids and herself. She had to put the revolver to use shortly after dad was taken away. A local drunk decided to come and pester mom and she used the revolver to dissuade his advances. First time I realized one could use a gun for self defense. That incident made an indelible impression on a 4 year old boy. My second was when I was 5. I got a Daisy BB gun, however it was not a Red Rider. I loaded it and took it outside and shot and killed a Red Bird. A Cardinal was KY's, where we lived, state bird. I thought I really had done something. My father was watching and came out and told me I should never kill anything that I wouldn't eat and just killing for fun was not a good thing to do if I didn't have a good reason. Told me God put song birds on earth to look at and admire for their beauty and songs. He made me put the bird in a shoe box and bury it. From that time on I began to realize nature and the things around me. My third gun was when I turned 7. It was a Stevens single shot 410 GA with a hammer. I got to go with dad when he purchased it used, in 1955, for 20 bucks. Oh boy, I was a gun owner. Dad made it an important thing to me and sort of a right of passage. Talked to me about responsibility of being a man. I used that gun to kill many Rabbits, Squirrels, and Quail. Dad liked wild meat and he would send me out whenever he had a hankering for some. He really liked quail and rabbits. Squirrel were tougher, harder to skin, and mom had to pressure cook them to make them tender. That long gun also kept me in spending money for years. I had a man who, owned a local grocery store, and he loved to eat wild animals. He would pay me 50 cents and give me a 410 shell every time I brought him an animal. I killed 40 rabbits one year and he froze them in a freezer and eat on the all summer. I just gave the little Savage to my youngest grandson who has already shot swamp rabbits, with his dad, in South Carolina low country where he now lives this fall. That is my trip, and right of passage, to becoming a real life gun owner. What is your memories?
  15. I was off pain killers by third day, except for one pill before P T and One at bedtime for 7 days. After that just 1 before PT. I don't like taking Opioids. One needs them early and they do help healing. One must get sleep epically for the first 5 nights. I did have small pain when I quit taking them at night but did not keep me from sleeping. Hope you can do the same, but take them to start with if you need them.
  16. Darrell your very correct. We, as a modern society, are insulated from death. I can remember my grandmother was viewed and kept, after her death, in my parent's home after she passed, and until she was burred. Death is a subject many don't like to discuss. Been 113 views of this thread and 1 comment.
  17. Had my left knee replaced 2 years ago. It is not as good as the one God gave me, but much less pain than the old one. I would do it again. Did the PT religiously and recovered 85% in 4 weeks. First two is worst, but I took a pain pill 45 min before going to P T. Helped a bunch. I had problems because I did not know what pain killer I could take. The first one the gave me made me sick. Changed and off to the races I went. My new one is not as flexible as my real one was. Can't ride a bicycle any longer. Only gripe I got.
  18. Dave, DAVE, haven't you been told, the 40 are the ugly ducklings of today! I like them.
  19. Death is a natural part of life. We may not like it but will all experience it in time. All the animals and fauna will die eventually. "Death is a subject many do not want to discuss." Some fear death. Death is the point where one's spirit leaves this tent, where it exit here on earth (our body), then our soul spirit enters the Hadean Realm (the realm of departed spirits) and eventually the spirit returns to God who gave it in the first place. The body (tent where the spirit exist on earth) is placed in the ground and returns to dust which God used to form our bodies in the beginning of mankind. One can confirm this in the pages of the Holy Bible, which is Gods word to mankind, and in written form. King James had the Bible translated and put into written form many centuries ago. We can all benefit by reading a good translation. We are blessed to have it in this day in time. Matter of fact, one does not need to fear death. One can prepare for death. That is the key to not fearing death. Guys it is going to come. Death to some people, those who prepared beforehand, will be something looked forward too. The Bible tells one heaven is a wonderful place to spend eternity with God and Christ sitting at His right hand. I don't say this callously because death, is separation and it brings great grief and pain to our families, loved ones, and friends who are left behind here in this realm. Those who are left, in this realm, can take comfort in the fact they they can go to the one who had died and gone into the next realm. You can read what King David said after he lost his son he had with Bathsheba, in (2nd Samuel 12:15-23) in your Bible. It is comforting to know one can go to the departed providing we prepare for it. The key to deal with death is to prepare yourself for it before one reaches the end. I know this is a gun blog and death is not a pleasant subject, but we will all face it sooner or later. Why I put this in General Discussion. I have a friend who is haunted by those he killed in war. I told him they had the same chance to prepare themselves as he did, before they met their death in War. Not a good/pleasant subject to discuss, but a needed one in the days of Coved and after.
  20. Hipower, it is just a story about an somewhat famous person humbling himself, and extending friendship to one who is less fortunate. It is what God wants all mankind to do. Cody and our first born actually went back and seen Mr Drury in 2018. He remembered Cody and asked him to sit in his booth with him as he signed autographs and other things. Cody considered him to be his friend. They were going back in May of this year, but James passed away in April at 84. I posted this story here to encourage others to do the same. If you see someone less fortunate, reach out to them. Be a caring human being.
  21. How many of you remember the TV series “The Virginian”? The Virginian was played by James Drury. Our first-born daughter likes the reruns of the old western. They had a Cowboy Way Festival in Ardmore Oklahoma in 2017. We took our RV and drove out here and met James among other old western stars of yesteryear. Our grandson Cody went with us. Our daughter even got him a black western hat, red shirt, and outfit like the Virginian wore in the TV series. They have a Virginian Posse fan club. Prior to our getting there She posted Cody’s picture on the posse page and several made comments about Cody. As it turned out many were looking for Cody after we arrived. When we arrived and on Thursday night our daughter took Cody to a restaurant, in Ardmore, to eat. We stayed behind and set up our campsite and decided to attend the Friday thru Sunday festivities. After they arrived at the Restaurant they were seated and someone yelled out, “Is that Cody”? To their surprise it was James Drury. He was 84 at that time. He recognized Cody from the picture our daughter posted on the posse web site. James got up, came to their table, and shook Cody’s hand and welcomed them to the festival. Long story short, they had a Bosman’s dinner at the end of the festival on Sunday night. He told the director he wanted Cody to sit at the Bosman’s table and eat dinner with him. James Drury passed away in May of this year. Last week, a kind Lady wrote, on the Posse Web page, of her memory of that 2017 dinner as she sit beside Cody at the Bosman’s table that night. Here is her memory. Flashback to 2017, sitting across from Mr. Drury at the dinner table in Ardmore, OK I asked Mr D; What keeps you going, other than your beautiful morning and evening star(his Wife)? He looked at the entire table, and said; Each and everyone of you, then he looked at Cowboy Cody, who was sitting next to me with his family, and said, Especially you! I remember the smile on his face when he said that. It was priceless. He really, really enjoyed IMO being with all of us, and “most of all Cowboy Cody” that night. One of my most wonderful memories of Our Ramrod…. This spring after Cody learned of Mr Drury’s passing, he cried for days. Still does some times. He called me and told me “My Friend James Drury died Pop Pop, and every time Cody sees a rainbow in the sky, he says My Friend James Drury is happy. Cody is 28 now and has Downs Syndrome. Takes a Special Man to befriend someone who is challenged. Just like when King David(of the Bible) showed kindness to Mephibosheth (2nd Samuel 9). Read it, and your go and do the same.
  22. m16ty, it is easy to do when your middle-aged and fit, or younger, but when you get to my station in life(72) and have several health problems bad knees, back, heart, and neck, among others, it is hard to look any other way but, OLD. I really think that may be why these thugs felt they could succeed with me. They saw meat and made the decision to eat. They saw opportunity, me out of my house and 300' away, much younger than I , and Ability, 3 of them to one of me. I sensed, very clearly, I was in jeopardy. As Sam Colt said, God made men large and small, but his invention made them equal. Luckily, I had the equalizer in my pocket. I will say I agree with your assessment on how to carry oneself if at all possible. In my case one really must rely on a equalizer, if forced into defending oneself. I like to be the "Grey Man", in public, and in life.
  23. Mike will surely be missed by his family, and us here. RIP Michael. He was truly talented. Prayers for his families comfort.
  24. I use Military Ammo Cans and store them in closets in my home. Have some in a safe, but the trick to making ammo last is storing ammo in air tight containers and keeping them in a controlled temperature area. Our home stays from 70 to 73 degrees year round.
  25. Very sad to hear. Prayers for the family and all here.
