I have purchased 3 mdl 617 revolvers which are 7 shot and not a bit of problems with any of them. They are solid and good revolvers. I know some of the first of these revolvers had too close of a tolerance between the front of the cylinder and frame which required a spacer to make them not seize up when getting hot from continual firing. Later models were fine. I never had any trouble with the 3 I have. The revolvers are K frame size, and I can carry any of them in my pocket in an altered nemesis pocket holster. They have 2" brls and rubber grips on them and also the trigger is great out of the box. One is a lightweight alloy frame and in 38Spl only. The other 2 are 38Spl/357 Mag. I also have seen some of the newer revolvers Taurus is making and I like them as well. I highly recommend them. I was one of the "burn me once" guys, for a long time, but have come to see the light on these revolvers and the newer ones.

Neighbors have these 2 crooks on Ring Doorbell video walking about the area and casing the neighborhood. Crooks cursing looking for pray. What happened to me when I walked to the mailbox that morning. These two victims just happened to arrive home at the wrong time. Me I was caught too far from my home, with a bum knee coupled with lost mobility, and the punks took advantage of my situation. Guys, I don't walk to the mailbox anymore. I will say having the gun saved my bacon that morning. I sure could have been severely beaten like my neighbor was, by 3 druggies cursing looking for easy prey.

The news reported tonight had a couple in Brentwood TN were attacked and robbed in their garage last evening around 9:00 PM. Channel 5 had a "Self Defense expert" on TV saying if your attacked in your car, your in a coffin. He advised too just give the robbers what they want because it is not worth dying over stuff. Being in a car you have very little ability to move or evade, just givem what that want. Sound advice IMO. What are your thoughts? Most think that when entering and exiting cars, your really vulnerable.

What Most People Who Carry Fail to Realize
pop pop replied to crc4's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
All the people involved left the scene and no one called 911. The defender actually gave the patrons their money back. The defender should have called 911 immediately. I also agree the last shot will probably be deemed overkill and illegal. Feel sorry for the defender in this, however it is Texas. We will see??? -
I once purchased guns just because I liked them and wanted them. For the past few years, I have only purchased guns for self-defense purposes, and they all have been new ones. I did purchase some bargain deer rifles, but after years decided to give them away also. I kept one, a Savage Axix 7MM 08 just in case I need it. I have settled on S/W MP 9 MM in Pistols, and Taurus 617 7 shot 38Spl/357 Mag revolvers. Also have a 5 shot J frame for backup. At soon to be 75 Y O, I have started giving my guns to my grandchildren so my wife will not be forced to be bothered with that task. I am keeping my MP's and chosen Revolvers that I have purchased for SD. I do have multiple firearms of my chosen ones. Just in case I need them. I have enjoyed almost every gun I have purchased or inherited over the years. Always cleaned them at least once a year whether shooting them or not. Collected many guns so my grandkids will not go unprepared for any need. Still need to thin the heard some more but am getting toward the end for now. Two of my grand boys have put the hunting guns to good use this fall and winter. Kinda makes me proud because when their ages, I did the same. It gave me a sense of pride to be able to put meat on the table. My grandboys are doing the same with the guns I have given them.

I recently purchased a Max 9 and have liked it. I carry it on Sunday and Wednesday night to church. I normally pocket carry a Taurus 2" Mdl 617 7 shot loaded w/357 Cor Bod DPX. The Max 9 does not print as bad and for sure when wearing black slacks. I would like to carry it with the 12-round mag, but the grip is too long for pocket carry. Does fine with the 10-round mag. Carry both in Nemesis pocket holster.

Thanks for the kind words derf. Found out our daughter, and 12 Y O granddaughter were in the blind with grandson also. Friend of Parker's and Parker's dad were in a tree stand. Got a doe. Father put 308 ammo in the 30 30 and cannot get it out. Lever locked up tight. Hard lessons learned. Taking it to gunsmith tomorrow. Bet they don't do that again.

Grandson, and family, hunting ducks again today. Killed 5 this morning. Deer hunting this afternoon on the S Caroling coast near Charleston. Using a Savage Axis 308, 30 30 Marlin 336 lever gun, and 20 Ga Mosberg I gave them. You just gotta love it. I do!

What Most People Who Carry Fail to Realize
pop pop replied to crc4's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I agree with crc4 whole heartily. I have read many books, am a member of Armed Citizens Legal Defense Net, and have studied Self Defense quite a bit since starting concealed carry when TN passed the concealed carry law years ago. Bracca and Mas's books are the best and can be ordered from Amazon cheap. I recommend them 100%. Also know one needs to be a member of ACLDN (360-978-5200 call them for a free book "What Every Gun owner needs to know About Self Defense Law," again FREE) or another insurance company of your choosing, for your family's protection. ACLDN is 95.00 per year now for one. You pull that gun and you stand to lose your total future, "seriously." Have had to almost pull my gun to avoid a beating, from 3 "IMO" drugged individuals who, after leaving my yard, drove a few miles (4) from my house, and beat a legally blind man going to his mailbox, just as I was doing. I was 73, just had total knee replacement surgery and was unable to flee from them. His son told me last month his dad never got over the beating and he spent 4 weeks in the hospital but was able to leave only to die 3 weeks later. Sheriff said he died of old age as he was 84, because he got out of the hosp and died at home. This guy, crc4, is giving good advice here guys. Look at what happened to Kyle Rittenhouse, and Goerge, In Florida, who shot and killed Trevon Martin. That can happen to you. Not saying it will but CAN. "Everyone" who pulls a gun, in S D and uses it, your life "Most Times" will never be the same from that day forward. Some are justified, but many arent because they don't know the laws of Self Defense. I agree whole heartily, Educate yourself. Bracca's book, "the Law of Self Defense, and Massad Ayoob's books "In The Gravest Extreme" and "Straight Talk On Armed Defense" all can be purchased on Amazon cheap. Well worth your read. Cost very little to educate yourself on Self Defense guys. "Excellent" Advice crc4. Edited to add; George Zimmerman in Florida shooting. Another good book, "Concealed Carry Class, the ABCs of Self-Defense Tools and Tactics" by Tom Givens. He has had 68 students in shootouts in Memphis with interesting results. -
Sorry about that "Defender." It is the Max 9.

I purchased the LCP Max a few months back. Carrying the pistol in a Nemesis pocket holster, strong side. Have 450 rounds of practice and S D ammo through it with no failures. Really like it but will not carry the pistol without the trigger covered in a holster. Using Hornady Critical Duty 147 Gr HP +P ammo. Accurate and hard hitting. Really dings steel targets much harder than practice ammo. Hardest hitting 9 MM ammo I have ever used. I have had no safety issues with the Max 9 at all. Carry it often.

Like my Henry 38 Spl/357 Mag W-hex brl.

I try to get on at least daily, and sometimes more. Yes, good place to hang out.

Middle TN Electric put out a message saying Rutherford County "may" have rolling black outs this Saturday. Duration will be 15 minutes. I hope not. I am not turning on Christmas lights and have downed my thermostat 2 degrees. Keeping all unnecessary lights turned off. How are the "Tree Huggers" thinking they are going to put millions of electric cars on the road and keep them charged? What A Joke they are playing/putting on us. TVA can't even weather a 4-day storm right now. We just went through our first rolling block out while I was typing this. Lasted 20 minutes. I guess this is going to be the norm from now on. Sorry Sorry Sorry Edited to add; Temperature dropped 1 degree, on my thermostat, during the electric cut off.

My daughter has a horse farm. I went out, at 9:00 A M with grandson, to help her get ready for the cold. Already put 2 heat lamps in her well house the day before. She has water this morning, so we were good in not freezing. Started our day by going to Kroger, Franklin Road Murfreesboro, yesterday morning and had to wait in line to check out for 20 minutes. Lines were backed up 15 deep at every checkout and the self-check outs had 25 to 30 people at both S-C-Os. Daughter didn't have time to go get her food. Got on her John Deer and put some rock in her feeding areas, has 12 horses, to elevate a mud problem. She then wanted to put out another round bail of hay so I drove to Co Op at Eagleville, and they did not have a hay cradle so put the round bale on a flat rock. She wanted and extra bail out because her tractor will be extremely hard to start at 0. Finished that so then she wanted me to drive to the "Boro" Pet Smart and purchase dog and cat food, and another 48" dog crate, and a large Igloo doghouse for a new Black Lab she got recently. Did this and then did her night feeding on pasture horses while she drove to Barney's Barnyard in college Grove to purchase horse feed for the cold spell. I got home at 7:00 P M and was totally exhausted. Had to ice down my back and neck because of lifting heavy stuff all day long. Did get some good rest last night and got up to o at 6:00 this morning. Have a plan on staying in for the duration of cold weather until Sunday church. Still will be cold but God comes first in our life. Will gladly get out to go worship Him come Sunday. Very long hard day for us yesterday. Wife was out helping also. Long day for a 74 Y O, but what are good fathers for?

I still have a soft spot for the 30 06. Gave my last one, a Weatherby Vanguard 1, to a grandson for a Christmas present several years back. He will not use it and uses his dad's 270 because he says the Weatherby is too pretty to scratch up. It was like new when I gave it to him. He likes Remington Cor-lokts ammo also. I gave him 100 rounds of 165Gr C-L for his 06.

My son-in-law sent me movies, this week, of my 14 Y O grandson using my shotguns I gave him, while shooting a duck and squirrel. He had 2 of his friends with him. Used a Mosberg 20 Ga pump for the duck, and my old 67 Y O 410 my dad purchased for me for my 8th birthday. I am 74 now. My grandson and dad are in Mt Pleasant, S Carolina. They have either been fishing or hunting every day this week while out of school for the Christmas Holiday. The boys will remember these hunts for their lifetime. I applaud my SIL for spending time with his kids.

I like Smith Wesson MP's, and Ruger for mid range pistols cost wise, and Colt and Kahr for mid to higher end. Don't have any experience with other brands. I know they are probably some other brands that are good. At heart I am a revolver guy at heart, but they are limited on round count. The one I carry now is a 7 shooter K frame snubbie. It is confusing settling on a new pistol. My advice try one out and shoot one before you purchase, if possible. That is how I fell for the MP 9C 2.0 with a 4" brl and 15 rounds on board. The SW Shield line is a good choice also. It must be concealed carried OWB or IWB as it is too large for pocket carry. It cost a tad more for these brands but you only pay for a pistol once and if you take care of them they will last you for years/life-time. My policy was to spend that extra 100.00 and purchase some thing yo can be proud of and if you sell it you can recoup your money invested. Edited to add; A good condition Ruger or Smith Wesson or Colt will sell for more than I paid for them when I purchased them years back.

I like 40 and have a Glock 23 and Kahr PM 40. I had a Sig 229 and gave it to my grandson several years ago. IMO, it is a good round for 4" brl and up. Not a good round for smallish pistols. My all steel Kahr PM 40 is a handful. The older my hands get the harder it is to shoot. One reason why I don't carry it any longer. I am into 357/Cor Bon DPX and 9 MM 147 Gr Winchester Defender + P for concealed carry.

How much spare ammo do you guys carry if any. My carry is a 7 shot revolver, pocket carried, and a speed strip with 8 extra rounds in a back pocket. If I carry pistols, 12 shot or 15, I carry an extra magazine of ammo in my back pocket as well. Just interested if you guys carry extra ammo. A lot of trainers, and (Quote) "lots of professionals" say one will most likely not need a reload in a gunfight. I like to be prepared so I do carry extra ammo.

Mills, the pistol should have been on the person, and not in a bag. Just like you don't leave them in your car when not there. Simple guys! Don't want your roscoe handled by someone else, or stolen, keep it on you. So many guns are stolen out of cars, I wouldn't be surprised if the Gov will start charging people, in the future, for leaving them unattended and vulnerable to be stolen. I have both, but preferer hammer.

Had a 1957 Chevy convertible with the factory 283, 4 barrel. When I went into the military, I sold it for 300.00 cash in 1966. What a jerk! Seen a turquoise one sell, which was the color of mine with a white rag top, on the Motor Channel Auction for 115,000.00 a few weeks back.

I have a 2012 GMC Acadia. My wife had a rear-ender while taking me to the Emergency Room, on the 21s of Nov, while I was experiencing heart/chest pain. After getting to the E R I had blockage and 4 Stents put in my veins around my heart. I have been battling the insurance company because they want to salvage it. The SUV has 80,000 miles and was in pristine mechanical, and the body was in great condition. Just put new 20" tires, struts, brakes, and a new battery on it. The Insurance C said TN has a law that if it cost 75% of the book value of the car, they can't fix it. I argued my car was worth more than the average 10 year old car, because of it's excellent condition and low milage, and they should make allowances for the condition. They wouldn't. Finally they relented and they are repairing my Car. Turned out the car was about 700.00 under the 75% rule and they were trying to shuck me. Shes, insurance! My wife loves the car, and so do I. It is her car as I have a Chevy Pickup and another Chevy Trail Blazer. We have owned it for 2 years and it had 70,000 when we purchased it from our neighbor. Eddited to add; I would have regretted selling the Acadia. That car sells in the 40,000. range now. Be hard for a 74 Y O retired guy to pay for now.
